ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK season 6 has returned to Netflix and fans can’t help but notice that some of the original cast are missing from the new series, especially Boo. But what happened to Boo? Here’s everything you need to know.

Orange Is the New Black season six trailer

Orange Is The New Black season six returned to Netflix on Friday, July 27.

Season six picked up after the three-day riot which occurred in the fifth run.

Piper (played by Taylor Schilling), Alex (Laura Prepon), Red (Kate Mulgrew), Gloria (Selenis Leyva), Maria (Jessica Pimentel), Marisol (Jackie Cruz) Suzanne (Uzo Abuba), Frieda (Dale Soules) Flaca (Laura Gomez), Nicky (Natasha Lyonne), Daya (Dascha Polanco), Taystee (Danielle Brooks), Cindy (Adrienne C. Moore) and Lorna (Yael Stone) have all been transferred to Litchfield’s maximum-security prison.

Season six follows the inmates' struggles to cope with life in maximum security and the unfair trial of Taystee, who was wrongly accused of murdering evil guard Desi Piscatella (Brad William Henke) during the riot in season five.

A new prison means new inmates and new faces to the large female ensemble include Daddy (Vicci Martinez), villain Madison A.K.A Badison (Amanda Fuller) and murderous sister duo Barb (Mackenzie Phillips) and Carol Denning (Henny Russell).

Alongside additional cast members, fans could not help notice the absence of Boo (Lea DeLaria), Norma (Annie Goldman), Martiza (Diane Guerrero), Yogo Jones (Constance Shulman) and others.

After the riot of season five, some inmates from Litchfield were transported to a separate facility in Cleveland and it is thought that this is where other cast members are.

Brian Chamberlayne, screenwriter for OITNB, told The Hollywood Reporter: “If the story takes us there, it has to be organic for us. We never want to suddenly be in a world that we haven't set up. But we love those characters and miss them as storytellers for sure, so we hope to always see them.“

The good news is, there is no reason to suggest that Boo and others won’t return for season seven.

What happened to Boo in Orange Is The New Black?

The last time viewers saw Boo was in episode two of Orange Is The New Black season six.

She appeared alongside skinhead Helen (Asia Kate Dillon) and was seen laughing at Linda Ferguson (Beth Dover) who was getting her head shaved whilst still trying to convince the guards she was an employee of MCC, the private for-profit company who run the prison.

Boo met Linda in season five after the latter was trapped in the riot and had to go undercover as an inmate to save herself. Boo and Linda began a romantic relationship but the prisoner was betrayed when she found out her girlfriend's real identity.

When Linda tried to tell a member of the SWAT team storming the prison who she really was, Boo sabotaged her attempts by also claiming to be a member of MCC which encouraged other inmates to also pretend.

Boo’s real name is Carrie Black and she identifies as a lesbian. Boo refers to herself as “Butch”, something she is very proud of and has tattooed on her arm.

It has not yet been revealed why Boo is in prison but it is alluded to throughout all seasons of OITNB that she was incarcerated for either fraud or theft.

Who is actress Lea DeLaria in Orange Is The New Black?

Lea DeLaria is an actress, stand-up comedian and jazz musician.

Lea has appeared in Happy Days, F.R.I.E.N.D.S, The Edge of Seventeen and The First Wives Club.

She has even had roles on Broadway in The Rocky Horror Picture show and On The Town.

In 2015, Lea released her most recent jazz album titled “House of David” which was a compilation of reworked jazz versions David Bowie songs.

She is a prominent member of the feminist and LGBTQ+ community and was the first openly gay comedian to appear on late night television on The Arsenio Hall Show in 1993.

OITNB SEASON 6 REVIEW

The character of Boo was created specifically for her by writers of OITNB.

She originally auditioned for a role as Wanda the prison guard but the writers instead wrote her the part of Boo.
