How to switch to old Instagram layout 2022

Instagram is always adding new and exciting features to keep its users entertained – but they don’t always go down well!

Changes to messaging, Reels, algorithms, feeds and settings occur all the time, but the latest update concerns the layout.

Instagram has changed the way that the screen is laid out in its latest 2022 update, including Stories, sizes and what is shown on your feed.

However, hundreds of users have been taking to Twitter this week to complain about it…

Instagram changes layout for 2022

In its latest update, Instagram has completely changed the layout of the home screen – and users hate it!

There are a variety of different changes that impact post sizes, Stories and the types of posts you see on your feed.

The most noticeable change is that posts are now bigger and take up more of the screen, laid out in a 9:16 ratio.

That means the caption and likes are now placed on top of the photo, which is very different.

As well as that, Instagram’s algorithm now shows more suggested posts on your feed from people you don’t follow.

So, as you’re scrolling through Instagram, you’ll see not only posts from users you follow but also random ones from the Explore page.

The final change comes to Stories. Users can post up to 100 Stories and all of them are usually shown to followers who have to tap through every one.

However, in the new update, excessive Stories are not shown and will have to click a “Show All” to see the rest.

Adam Mosseri announces feed changes

Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri took to Twitter last week to announce the new feed changes.

“We’re moving Instagram to a place where video is a bigger part of the home experience, where content is more immersive – it takes up more of the screen,” he said.

The CEO went on to say that a larger part of the feed will now be “recommendations” and “things we think you might love but you might not have heard of yet”.

“We’re trying to figure out how to advance Instagram forward in a world where more and more people are going to be mobile first,” he added.

The 39-year-old further revealed that photos and videos will now “take up more of your screen” and be a taller, 9:16 ratio.

However, he did reveal that this is simply a trial and said they are going to “learn as much as we can over these next few weeks,” before deciding whether to introduce the features for everyone.

So, if users continue to moan about the update on social media, Instagram could decide not to go forward with the layout changes after all.
