Night of the living Dead Switch

The House of the Dead is one of the most famous lightgun shooters of all time, first released in 1996 for arcade machines. This game, along with the Resident Evil series is commonly credited for being the progenitors of the zombie game franchise, which saw several sequels and home console ports. The original game is a classic, due to its frantic gameplay and hokey voice acting, though not as popular as it once was in comparison to modern horror games. However, the series is looking to make a comeback through a remake of the first game.

This remake of The House of the Dead was revealed last year during Nintendo's Indie World Showcase, being developed by MegaPixel Studio and published by Forever Entertainment. This remake will be retaining the original gameplay to be as true as it can to the original, where the player will be facing off against several undead monsters in a fast-paced rail shooter. Not only that, the game will also be given changes that will bring the game closer to modern gaming standards, such as a more realistic and detailed graphical style, as well as gameplay tweaks.

A recent trailer for The House of the Dead Remake showed off some of these changes, including the gameplay and graphics. This trailer also gave fans a release date, stating that it would be launching digitally on Nintendo's eShop this April, with pre-orders open on March 31st. For fans who were looking for a physical version of the game, this upcoming remake will be getting one for the Switch, known as the "Limidead Edition" thanks to Microids.

The contents of the limited edition of The House of the Dead Remake will have a couple of goodies for fans to enjoy. Alongside a physical copy of the game, this edition will also have a special box that features some of the zombie enemies, along with a lenticular pattern. It will also include two character stands, along with a sticker sheet that portrays a few enemies from the game.

This collector's edition for the Switch version of The House of the Dead Remake is available for pre-order for $39.99 USD among certain retailers, though there's currently no exact release date for the physical copies at this time. One retailer, VideoGamesPlus, does list this edition that will be releasing at the very end of the year, but the retailer believes this is currently a placeholder date.

A real-world plague doesn’t mean that you should stop blissfully shooting zombie hordes. The House of the Dead: Remake reimagines Sega’s classic light gun game as a $24.99 Nintendo Switch game. The scripted action has never looked better thanks to the majorly enhanced visuals. However, Remake's short length and mediocre controls reveal that this house was always more at home in the arcade.

Suffer Like G Did

The House of the Dead: Remake is a gross and gorgeous recreation of the classic arcade game, but its short length and control issues highlight the fact that light gun games only make sense in an arcade setting. Series fans might get a kick out of the nostalgia, but everyone else should opt for modern, linear shooters, such as Doom Eternal or Titanfall 2.
