How much sugar in Coke 330ml

When you knock back a fizzy drink, unless it’s a ‘diet’ drink, you know you’re getting sugar. But what about drinks you might think of as healthier choices?

Some of the sugars in drinks might be naturally present (such as lactose in milk drinks), which means those drinks are more likely to contain useful nutrients (such as calcium or vitamins). Added sugar, or sugar from fruit juice, is more likely to affect body weight and cause damage to our teeth. It’s this type of sugar that the World Health Organization recommends we try to keep to 26g or less each day. That’s about five teaspoons of sugar.

How does it measure up?

One 330ml can of Coca-Cola contains 35g sugar (7 teaspoons).

We’ve compared the sugar content per serve to 1 teaspoon of sugar (5g in line with New Zealand’s official food measurements*)

Tricksily, a 600ml carton of Oak chocolate milk technically contains two serves — so if you intend to drink the whole thing yourself in one hit, a quick glance at the nutrition information panel won’t give you the right impression of how much sugar you’re really drinking. FYI, regular full-fat milk has less than half the sugar of its flavoured cousin.

There are 39 grams of sugar in a 12 oz Coca-Cola can. Our smaller portion sizes, like our 7.5 oz mini soda can, have less sugar and fewer calories.

Coca-Cola comes in several sizes (availability varies based on geography).

  • 7.5 oz – 25g of sugar and 90 calories
  • 8 oz – 26g of sugar and 100 calories
  • 8.5 oz – 28g of sugar and 100 calories
  • 12 oz – 39g of sugar and 140 calories
  • 16 oz – 52g of sugar and 190 calories
