The City of Fort Lauderdale Commission is asking Fort Lauderdale residents to vote on two bond questions for city parks and police, totaling $300 million for two significant community improvements: replacing the police station and upgrading the park system. The bonds will be voted on during a March 12 election.

If approved, the bonds would give the city the ability to borrow money for the projects. Residents will pay for them in the form of property tax increases.

The parks bond totals $200 million and includes four signature projects involving Holiday Park, Joseph Carter Park, Lockhart Stadium and a new park above Federal Highway at the Kinney Tunnel. The other ballot measure is the construction of a new police station. The city would seek $100 million to undertake this project.

Our panel will present the facts regarding this very important bond issue.
