Johnston–Felton–Hay House

19th-century mansion boasting marble statues, stained glass, ornate period furnishings & paintings.

Slide 1 of 3

We had a fantastic experience seeing and learning about the Hay House. Our guide, Shy, was bashful about us being one of his first tours, but he was fantastic. He did an amazing job showing us all the wonders of the Hay House, and answering all our questions. It was amazing to walk through living history, and try to imagine what life was like when the house was built. We had an amazing time, and I would recommend this tour to anyone who's interested in historical Georgia or architecture. The additional fee to see the top floors is worth it as well. Climbing the spiral stairs to the top of the house was an experience, and well worth it.

Our 8 yo daughter found out about the Hay House, so we stopped on our way up to Helen. Deborah, our tour guide was fantastic and shared so many interesting things about the house. The extra $5 to go up the cupola was well worth it. So cool. The stop exceeded our expectations!

This tour was amazing! I did the special behind-the-scenes tour and it was awesome! Got to look behind every door and see all the "secret" places. The house is beautiful and our guide was so knowledgeable. This was, hands-down, my favorite house tour in years!

If you have any interest in a subject like this, then it's fascinating. If you have no interest, perhaps a visit here will spark it.

We all had such an awesome time during the annual Native American festival; the performances, the variety of booths with items to peruse and purchase, the hands-on learning stations that taught my d.d and I how to weave baskets, make cornhusk dolls and turquoise-beaded leather bracelets, as well as the many trails, and breathtaking views of the mounds was beyond what I expected. We ended the day with a nice cool down at the museum that had fairly in-depth exhibits and a modest gift shop. This will without a doubt be a yearly event our family will hope to never miss!

This location needs to be deleted. It will send you to no where and just stop in the middle of the highway. There is another monument tag that will send you to the visitors center.

Museum of Aviation

Free U.S. Air Force museum featuring classic planes, historic displays & a flight simulator.

Slide 1 of 3

This place is absolutely amazing. Some of the most groundbreaking technological advancements by humankind, and it's free, no one bugs you, and it's all available to you at your own pace/level of interest. In addition to extremely cool aircraft, there's also fascinating history told through numerous artifacts, dioramas, and displays. You gotta see it - three HUGE hangars' worth of stuff, plus aircraft outside, and it's freakin' FREE. You might get lucky and see and C5 fly overhead, as well.

An awesome museum - a must-see! This site is located on the southeast corner of the Robbins Parkway and Oak Avenue intersection. The entrance is south of the buildings. There is plenty of parking in the parking lot in front of the complex of buildings. There is no cost to the museum and there are volunteers inside each of the buildings. You can visit the buildings in any order but I would suggest going to the 3 stories one directly in front of the parking lot first. It has a beautiful foyer, gift shop, and an information desk where you can get suggestions on what you may want to focus on during your visit. The museum is actually a set of 5 buildings focused on different items. You could easily spend hours or days visiting each of these buildings. The main 3 story building focuses on the historical aspect and spans 3 stories. The building to the south houses the Vietnam era. The courtyard in the middle of the building was being used to launch rockets on the day I visited. The two buildings on the east of the courtyard house various displays and some works-in-progress. As an added bonus, there are planes on display outside the main buildings including a B-52, Presidential plane, and more. Overall, it is a very nice museum and a must-see for any aviation enthusiast or American history buff. I highly recommend this for any visitor in the area.

This place is a great stop for any aviation or military buff. The amount of planes here is amazing. They have some hands on cockpits for the young and young at heart to jump into and play with all the buttons and gauges. 4 buildings in all. We did not have enough time to appreciate all that is here, since we hit this on the way to our destination. Kids enjoyed it and loved their models from the gift shop. If you are in the area and have some time to spare it is definitely worth a stop, and it's free, so why not?!

Great park. Our first stay here was in 2020 right at the height of the pandemic. Our second stay was yesterday and unfortunately it was only an overnight stay. One day we will be back to enjoy the park for longer than a day. It’s clean and well kept and the sites a pretty big.

Stephen Foster has so much history. Camp sites are spacious and restrooms are very clean. Museum was closed but Carillon bell tower was open. Highly recommend fir many reasons

This is a very nice park. Most camping sites are big enough for larger rigs. Bathhouse was nice and well taken care of. Park Ranger Watkins was awesome! She took lots of time with my grandkids explaining her job and responsibilities. Helped them to become Jr. Park Rangers. They were so thrilled!! Again a big thanks to Ranger Watkins!!!

Park

Slide 1 of 3

We visited during the winter off season and it was absolutely amazing! There were barely any others visiting, so the river was quiet and pristine. We saw lots of wildlife, including birds, turtles, and even some manatees (they frequent the area upriver of Midpoint). Note that they don’t allow you to bring any disposable items (snacks, bottled water) so make sure to bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated. Definitely recommend for all ages and levels of experience. We were in a party of 8 with both adults and pre-teen/teenage children, with little experience kayaking, and it was awesome.

May 13, 2022 a Friday. It was a perfect day with little people traffic. We floated down twice. So peaceful...you heard the birds and just a little talk ftom the people ahead. Water temp was nice-- not too cold like we expected. Highly recommend! Just be sure to spray down with sunscreen and bring water in an aluminum or reusable container. NOT allowed to have disposable containers NOR food on the water!!!! There is a small restaurant that serves burgers dogs, chicken sandwich, fries, sodas at a fair price. Enjoy🙂

What a beautiful place to go see and walk just to relax and see and learn about the blue hole and head spring where you can swim. The water here is also 72 all year round. The blue hole is only open to experienced divers. No free diving or swimming.

Ginnie Springs Outdoors, LLC

Clear springs with caverns for scuba diving, snorkeling & swimming, plus a campsite & dive shop.

Slide 1 of 3

Beautiful springs. 72 all year round. No lie it’s cold water in February even if it’s 80 out. I would get wetsuits if your going in the winter months. Snorkeling and diving is recommended so you can see the underwater caves. Kayaking and tubing the river is super fun but that current is strong 💪 so it’s a workout kayaking up the river but a blast floating back down!! Clearest water I’ve ever seen!! Definitely a must go to to see…

The spring itself is beautiful. The staff keep the grounds nice and clean. The water is refreshing and cool. It is a nice piece of nature that I pray we don’t destroy! The people are really the problem. I took my family for the first time recently and the grounds are overcrowded which makes getting to and enjoying the spring difficult! Unfortunately, the weekend is not the best time to go. Too much partying and drinking, young people are still rude and people don’t watch their children. Parents were getting drunk and leaving children unattended. The staff or the park are not to blame for the ignorance and poor behaviors of the adults present the day I was there. Those same adults allowed their children to block the steps to launch onto the spring. I will try to go on a Tuesday the next time. I rate the park a FIVE for the view and staff. The 3 represents the experience overall. I will return and do recommend this spot for a getaway. It is affordable and could be fun for the family!

Very nice campgrounds, from full service to tent sites, river tubing, kayak and canoe rentals. Good swimming. Well maintained facilities. Very good service and staff. I will return and would recommend to others. They need to have someone run a golf cart shuttle for tubing clients upstream. That would make it five stars.

LOVED this place! The animals are all so loved and well taken care of, all staff is so knowledgeable and sweet. The animals live like wild animals as they should and the enclosures are spacious and natural, absolutely a must-go!

My family came down from Virginia and we stopped in here for a tour. It was amazing how many endangered animals they are taking care of, and how knowledgeable the staff is. We were surprised at the amount of animals we were able to see and interact with…at a safe distance. We were also lucky to get an up close encounter with a baby clouded leopard (adorable!), as well as to feed a rhino (both hilarious and adorable). Isaiah, the zookeeper who gave us a tour was incredibly knowledgeable. I don’t think there was one question we asked him that he couldn’t answer. He was friendly and welcoming, making the tour a great experience. Whenever we’re down here again, we’re definitely coming back to check on our new friends.

Incredible place to see a myriad of big cats, primates, exotic species and interact with some really cool animals. 10/10 would recommend. They have a very knowledgeable staff, my wife and I will be back. They also have the best cat on earth, the Caracal (die Rooikat), seriously an amazing place.

I brought four of my little ones my wife and brother in-law to visit this gem, the kids where completely blown away and had smiles from ear to ear the whole time we were there. The wife loved many parts of the visit as did the brother in-law. I have been to quiet a few museums in my life time and this one was very well laid out and was not to long or to short it was just right the facility was clean and had ample parking over all it was a very pleasant family outing and we thank you for your work and dedication to supplying our youth and even our adults with the beauty and history you elegantly laid out for our viewing pleasure can't wait to see how you change things around with new exhibits in the future

What a wonderful museum and tip of the hat to FL! Butterfly garden is a must IMO if you like butterflies. The museum has the largest specimen collection of butterfliesand moths in the world at over 9 million specimens! The temporary Fossil exhibit they have on display for a limited time is amazing. The kids were able to get hands on, not only in the discovery center, but also helping to glue together and label fossils before they are cataloged in the national database. We will be back. The.food at the Cafe next door was great and reasonably priced!

This museum is great! I'm a Florida native and very passionate about the states wildlife, and their collections are very diverse and informative. So many cool fossils, specimens, and exhibits on the flora and fauna of the state. Their traveling exhibits are always super interesting as well, most recently I saw the dinosaur egg exhibit, which had ton of interesting info and reproductions for both kids and adults. I definitely recommend this place, especially for return visits, because there's just so much to see!

This is a great day trip. We took our time and enjoyed the whole area. Nice walking trails all level and in the shade; nice surprise. Tours were available and needed to go into the house. $3 per group in one vehicle to enter park. Honor box to pay the fee; correct change is needed. The farmhouse tour fee is $3 per adult and $2 per child. Hours 9 to 5. It is perfect for kids and all accessible for any age. Plenty of benches and picnic tables. Great restaurant “The Yearling” just up the road well worth the stop.

One of the nicest place for a day trip. A small farm house, may be you have seen that many times in your dreams but never expected it to exist in real world. Not very exciting, yet very close to heart- beautiful! The late January winter evening: an unplanned respite, a cup of tea was the only missing thing to enjoy the mysterious evening.

I went on Monday and the inside wasn't open. It was all the same magical. I own the movies and the books. This place is old Florida at its finest. I love Cross Creek. I love this home so much. There is a romance about it. Such sweet air. Come visit!

Rainbow Springs State Park

Serene public park offering natural springs & a river, as well as campgrounds & picnic areas.

Slide 1 of 7

The 100mi (160km) trek from downtown Orlando to Ginnie Springs is well worth the effort – you’re heading to a spring that’s drawn visitors for more than 10,000 years. Unclouded sapphire waters maintain a cool 72F (22C) temperature, so you can soak in comfort, whatever time of year you’re here. No need to hike for miles to see nature’s finest – hunker down in a kayak, and you can glide past jungle waterfalls and aquatic forests.

If you camp at Rainbow Springs State Park, you’ll have the opportunity to take a deep dive into Florida history, so make sure you bring your snorkeling gear. Humans first visited Rainbow Springs State Park over 10,000 years ago. Today, the Rainbow River draws people in for its near constant year-round temperature of 72 degrees.

Located an hour and a half away on the west coast of Florida, Rainbow Springs State Park is a beautiful excuse for a day trip. Hike their trails and marvel at their man made waterfalls, formed during the lands mining days and private ownership. Tube down the river, or swim in the sapphire waters.

The crystal clear water of the Rainbow River is what makes it such a popular destination for kayaking and tubing. Wildlife is abundant and at a 1 MPH flow, you can enjoy a leisurely float or paddle down the river. While you’re in the area you can also check out Rainbow Springs State Park.

One of the most beautiful places ever. The water are crystal clear and have the most beautiful colors. They have a huge lawn where you can just chill, and a bbq area where they also have tables and benches. They also have a small shop at the entrance for snacks and drinks. You can rent a kayak or puddle board for around 17$-27$ per hour (or around 50$ for the entire day). Another huge benefit to this spring is that they have beautiful trails where you can walk about and explore the nature around. GO THERE! Tubes are not allowed. You can bring your own kayak or puddle board as well (don’t know if they charge you an extra fee for that).

Entrance fee is $2 per person collected at a gate house near the spring headwaters about .25 miles from the parking lot. There are some short trails, a swimming area, restroom/changing rooms, pavilions and grilling areas and a lawn area for sunbathing. The visitor center and snack bar were closed on the day of our visit, Tuesday in February. There is a watercraft launch and rental area located just past the swimming area which we used to launch our paddle boards. You will need to carry your watercraft from the parking lot to that area. The water is crystal clear, deep and 72 degrees year round. Paddling was great, next to no obstacles with light currents. I have had more scenic experiences, much of the river is occupied by residential areas on one side. Wildlife is abundant, turtles, fish and birds are everywhere. As in any water source in Florida there are alligators but we did not observe any during out 3 hours on the water. Best of all were the small coves along the river which provided opportunities to pull over and cool off with a swim. There is a campground located 7 miles by road from the spring that has its own watercraft launch. Overall the park was a great experience although I’m sure it would be difficult to have that same option had we gone on a weekend, the park closes the gate at capacity, or had we not taken the watercraft out to explore the river away from the swimming area.

Beautiful state park with a botanical garden with walking paths, canoe/kayak area, restrooms with changing rooms and a swimming area. The parking lot is only a 5-10min walk away. You can tell this is a touristy destination by their gift shop, food stand & how they set up the park. The swimming area is smaller than expected, but still an amazing experience. I saw a sea turtle while swimming! They do charge a $2 admission. The campground is nice, clean and spacious. Check in was easy & staff was friendly. You can see the stars above in the night. The area is quiet & great for families.

Silver Springs State Park

Nature park bisected by a river, with trails, a museum, a picnic area, rental cabins & more.

Slide 1 of 7

Silver Springs State Park is a truly magical place to visit just outside of Orlando. It’s thought to be the largest artesian formation in the world, and it’s an amazing place to go kayaking in central Florida. Kayaking at Silver Springs State Park is an eco-friendly and kind way to discover wildlife in its natural habitat without disturbing any of the animals.

Often called Florida’s first tourist attraction, glass bottom boat tours have been running at Silver Springs for over 100 years!. (Random trivia – Over 20 movies have also been filmed here including Creature from the Black Lagoon, and six Tarzan movies). Rental options within Silver Springs State Park include kayaks, clear kayaks, paddleboards, and canoes.

There’s no better way to enjoy the crystal-clear waters of Silver Springs State Park than aboard a glass-bottom boat. These are not ideal waters to swim in, but a voyage is very much the next best thing, with on-deck breezes to keep you cool. Alternatively, you can kayak your way down the river for a picnic under the trees at Ray Wayside Park.

It is also one of the first tourist attractions in Florida, with recorded visitors dating back to the 1870’s. Visitors can enjoy a glass bottom boat tour, kayaking, and numerous other activities while at Silver Springs State Park. Silver River Museum and Environmental Center remain closed due to Covid-19.

Beautiful and only $2 entry fee. Wish CA would provide it's residents such value. Open and not crowded. Great to paddle around or take a hike. Clean restrooms and great staff. Didn't see a manatee but we were a little late.

Found this beauty while exploring the area on a business trip to Ocala. The most beautiful blueish green water. They have clearly defined trails and a beautiful boardwalk area that loops you through the forest. Didn’t get to take the boat tour but it looked awesome with the clear see through bottoms! Lots of parking, well maintained restrooms, and reasonably priced to enter! A must see if you are in the area!

We love Silver Springs. It is amazing to kayak. You see birds, manatees, alligators, turtle, fish, sunken ships and several springs not just Silver Springs. We have not been on the glass bottom boats but have overheard the boat captains and the seem quite knowledgeable. It is $5/kayak to launch your own kayak but parking is free. We have been here in December and saw several manatees and in April and saw the birds in their estuary, amazing both time frames though I think I'm my opinion the Spring was a little better because of all the birds. However, I don't think you can go wrong any time of year.

Rainbow River

River

Nature & Parks

Bodies of Water

Slide 1 of 4

Sometimes referred to as “KP Hole”, this spring fed river is the crown jewel of Central Florida. Known for its pristine blue water and tubing, the spring head at Rainbow River Springs feeds the six-mile river run. You can ride the river on any type of watercraft, motorized or non-motorized but most people choose to float down the river.

OMG. Rainbow River, even in late November, can’t be topped for swimming, tubing, kayaking, diving, canoeing and even fishing. The beauty is astounding - old Florida at its very best (check out my (if I do say so myself) A-ma-zing pictures! This River is spring-fed which means it is crystal clear. Like many of these type rivers in Florida, there are multiple springs that provide millions of gallons of pristine water each year. Divers come from near and far due to some of the boils being large enough to enter, the largest being the ‘K-hole’. The public park across from the K-hole is very nice. Modern and well, equipped, parking and restrooms are free and the grounds are very well-kept Bottom line? If you want to swoon over the Zen beauty of nature DO NOT WAIT! Head over to Rainbow River in Dunnellon, FL.

Magnificence! Beautiful scenery, water, wildlife all over! A great place to swim, kayak, explore or just sit beside and relax! The water was warm and crystal clear, and we all had an amazing day on the river!

Rainbow River in December was incredible! The park is clean and the park rangers are very knowledgeable. You can walk trails go swimming. You can rent kayaks and enjoy a paddle on a crystal clear river. Lots of walking will take you to some breath taking locations. Really had a fun and enjoyable time and will definitely be returning! A special thank you to everyone who keeps this landmark going. Now parking is a little difficult to locate so I’ll save you the trouble. 19158 SW 81st Pl Rd, Dunnellon, FL 34432

If you are planning a trip to Ocala, Gypsy Gold Horse Farm is a Must See! Dennis, the owner is turning 73 and winding down. He currently gives the tour and the story behind this place is historical, memorable and I can muster the words to say positively emotional. The animals are beautiful. You can see the staff interact with them and care for them. The cost per person is nothing for what you get for. Go Now while Dennis is still hosting the tour!

Great place to visit, the horses are all so friendly and beautiful! Aside from the horses they also have goats, donkeys and birds. The staff were all great and really informative about the breed. Definitely worth the tour around the farm!

The owners are great; there is a great story behind this place and the breed and the owners spins a nice tale. Also, these are some of the most beautiful horses I’ve seen.

Juniper Springs Recreation Area

Campground

Nature & Parks

Nature & Wildlife Areas

This landmark natural spring features a swimming hole, campground, picnic facilities & a mill house.

Slide 1 of 5

One of the oldest and best-known National Forest recreation areas in the eastern United States, Juniper Springs Recreation Area includes a millhouse with a working water wheel on a crystal clear spring and 100 foot wide freshwater spring surrounded by a stone wall. Dense foliage surrounds the swimming area, providing shade and a tropical swimming experience. The “swimming pool” is too deep to stand in most places, but tubes and floats are allowed.

If you really need to get away from it all, here are 7mi (11km) of splendor and solitude. All you need is a canoe, and you can paddle down the Juniper Run at the Juniper Springs Recreation Area. Here in the Ocala National Forest, hundreds of bubbling springs gently sway the otters, alligators and turtles floating through the water.

Had a great stay at Juniper Springs. Site 13 is a great site. Cheryl at the front gate is exceptional at her job. The bathrooms were immaculate. Hot water for showers was great. Now for the areas that literally need improvement/ reopening. You will find many areas of the park "under construction/ renovation" and apparently have been for quite some time. Concessions, water mill, some boardwalks, the kayak launch, etc. That being said the spring, pavilions and general area were very nice. The staff can seem over the top with rules, but with the litigious society we live in where lawsuits abound, it is the new norm. If you pull a trailer that you can sleep in, it will be counted as a vehicle, you will be charged for an additional if you have more than 2 vehicles.

I went here more than year ago. It was a fabulous hidden gem. However, I visited again just a day back. The old boardwalk that goes along the creek was closed. The new board walk is terrible. There is tree in middle of board walk that is just 4 feet and my son hit head hard while walking on the board walk. There was no sign of low clearance or any other warning, Also, there wet slipper mud on the board walk right behind the water wheel mill. Again, my family member slipped walking on the board walk due to the slippery wet mud. It was a picture perfect sunny day with 80F temperature on that day. These things are visitor safety hazardous conditions. I believe this is maintained by some company who has no one looking at these. There is no one even to complain about the same. Think twice before visiting about walking safety on the board walk. You don't want to hurt yourself.

Was charged $36 for 3 people to enter which was a shock - I went here a few years ago and had a very different experience. The millhouse exhibit was closed along with the majority of the trails which they made no effort to publicize and I feel like I was ripped off. Compared to state parks where a vehicle may get charged around $6 for entry it is absolutely ridiculous. Being privately owned this place seems to care a lot more about money than preserving the nature and history. It may be a good experience for camping but if you came to enjoy the springs and nature for a couple hours I’d go elsewhere.

Awesome place if you can enjoy high quality exhibits of cars. Focus is on drag racing but lots of great classic cars and other things to see. Could go back and spend the whole day like minded people. People working there are super friendly and happy to chat. Senior discount!

Great time!!!! Captain Kyle was awesome. We saw gators big & small, one water snake, lots of turtles of all sizes plus beautiful scenery. Holding the gator at the end is a great bonus!!!! I will do this again highly recommend giving it a whirl.

Captain Steve and the ladies were knowledgeable, and like their jobs. Steve explained pretty much every plant and animal as the tour went on. He also is prideful of the eagles, as well as the rest of the birds in the area. We saw quite a few gators, from a foot long to eight footers. Great for all ages.

Had a great trip with Swamp Fever. Drove out from Tampa and it was well worth the effort to see another side of Florida. Beautiful location, educational and entertaining. Would highly recommend the adventure if you are looking for something a little different to do with your family.

Definitely a recommendable Florida adventure. Fun experience. Peaceful at times. You don’t get wet, wear comfortable clothes. Very windy. Staff is very friendly. We got to see turtles, a few gators and different types of birds. There’s a Subway across the street if you need to grab a quick bite or snacks.

I like the vibe here. Some ppl may say it is a little bit creepy, but I would rather say this place is a hidden gem, not too much commercialized. When I went there, there was not that many ppl so we felt safer from COVID. Also, captain knew a lot about the history and alligators. But what I am pretty sure that what reader really wants to know is "are there a lot of alligators?". When I went there, I saw like 6-8 alligators including the baby alligator too. I will visit this place without hesitation next time. Don't forget the tips to the captain! It is what he is working for!

This is a must do for everyone! We saw gators and turtles and birds galore! Air boat was so much fun. The tour guide even stopped a couple times to give us a history lesson. We will definitely be looking up more tours like this, we really enjoyed. Everyone seemed to. Good times all around!

Lakeridge Winery & Vineyards

Expansive vineyard offering facility tours & wine tastings, plus regular music & food festivals.

Slide 1 of 4

Everyone associates wine with California but there are other wineries across the country that are lesser known. Florida, while hot and humid is home to a winery that produces its own label. This is not your ordinary non-Californian winery.

The video and the tour were exceptional. Was quite a surprise to be able to go through that before for the taste test. We sampled seven exquisite wines. Of course I loved the dry reds. The Cabernet was really good and so was the special reserve Cabernet. We ended up picking out a couple of bottles and some cheese to take back to the room with us. Place was wonderful, the staff were helpful and kind, and the wines are a real delight. Stop in, even if it means going out of your way. You will be glad you did. Be sure to check out my photos on google maps as well.

Great experience, we have a stroller and the staff is very helpful in accommodating us because there's a 2nd floor tour. Lovely place! Reasonable wine prices for both in bottle and case. I surely love all of it. Will definitely come back.

Very busy, but we did go on a Saturday afternoon and it would be a wonderful way to spend your afternoon we chose just to check it out. The free wine tasting is neat, a no hassle mini tour. They gift shop has an extensive array of goodies and of course the wine you can buy by the bottle or by the case what ever you want. Tha staff were extremely helpful and welcoming. I hope to come back again and enjoy the outdoor venue, music, and the delicious smelling food booths. Bring your lawn chair and have a relaxing time.

Giraffe Ranch

Leafy park home to giraffes, camels & rhinos with drive-through tours, plus up-close encounters.

Slide 1 of 5

At this attraction in Dade City, a little over an hour west of I-Drive, you’ll get to know giraffes and other species from around the world, all in a setting that seems right out of Africa with huge live oaks and open grasslands. Offering tours exclusively by reservation, Giraffe Ranch is on 47 acres of countryside adjoining Florida’s second largest wilderness area, the Green Swamp, complete with native orchids, lush pastures and rolling wetlands.

Rural Dade City is known mostly for its strawberries, but word is quickly spreading about something else that makes people flock here:…

Here are just a few shots of all the amazing animals you will see and learn about at the Giraffe Ranch. Lex and Elena are so great and Lex was who took us on our tour. His genuine love for his ranch and all his animals shows loud and clear. He is a wealth of information so take notes! Very worldly man to say the least. We learned so much and asked many questions that Lex was happy to answer. It was so fun and so educational. Worth every cent and then some. I will go again and take the camel tour next! We did this for my moms 81st bday and learned that he had a lady over 100 do the camel back tour!! My mom says she will do it for her 85th lol!! I've lived her my whole life and just learned about this place on my favorite morning radio show. I'm sorry I did not know earlier. I'd of love to have taken my father who had a huge love for the animals. Needless to say im grateful I got to experience this with mom. I rate this life experience like the best of diamonds. Colorless triple excellent!!! ❤😘

This was absolutely an amazing experience! They take pristine care of this facility and really care about these animals. It was a drive-thru tour with the guide over the radio. We have taken other tours like this and the quality of the tour and information from the guide (who has worked all over the world and is an adjunct professor) is 2nd to none. We also did the lemur feeding afterwards ($35) and it was SO COOL. They have other package options (Segway tour/camel tour/driven) and other feeding options to explore as well. There is another location in Lakeland that is 5x the size and we will go and review that soon too! VERY MUCH WORTH THE COST!!!

Excellent adventure! We did the camel tour. The guides were knowledgeable and you got to see the animals way closer than you would at a zoo. They were also very open about where each animal came from and their conservation efforts.

This tower offers a 360-degree view of eight different counties in Central Florida, making the terrifying ride up worth it. Photo via funky_fredd/Instagram

Went here to the Citrus Tower and views were amazing. The is a great top over. You can see for miles. I would highly recommend this attraction at least one. Great photo opportunities. You won't be disappointed. to say the least. We spent about forty-five minutes here.

I enjoyed my visit to the Citrus Tower. Would I do it again? Maybe. The Tower has a wonderful coffee shop on the first floor, and the elevator takes you to the only other floor, the second floor. I believe that this quite something in the fifties and sixties, with the piano roll playing and the miles and miles of citrus groves close by. Worth a visit, but bring binoculars.

Don’t expect more than what is advertised. The tower has terrific sunset views!!! This is a tower that stands 226 feet tall, that’s 22 stories! Luckily, the tower is equipped with an operating elevator. Upon entering you’ll purchase your ticket and find very limited souvenirs. T-shirts, a few pin designs and a magnet. They do have a few snacks for purchase. Once your out on the observation tower, providing it’s a clear day, you can view eight different counties. The place was very clean, with plenty of FREE parking. On 11.2.2021 adults tickets were $11. Check Groupon first for discounted tickets. In the same parking lot is Presidents Hall of Fame. They are not affiliated and have different hours so check before arrival.

Fred Howard Park

Happening park located on the Gulf of Mexico draws a bustling crowd for the beach & swim area.

Slide 1 of 8

The city of Tarpon Springs has done a fine job of providing their citizens with ample opportunities to enjoy the region's best natural features. One of the best examples of this is at Fred Howard Park, named after one of the city's mayors, who was in office in 1945. Spread out over 155 acres, this park is a delightful place to escape the blazing Florida sun under towering green trees.

Spread over 150 prime acres on the Gulf of Mexico, Fred Howard Park is one of the coolest places to see in Tarpon Springs. Along with the Sponge Docks, the park is a major local drawcard with over two million visitors paying a visit to Fred Howard Park every year. After crossing the causeway, you’ll be greeted by a shady forest with nature trails waiting to guide you through.

With public restrooms and showers, a nice beach, kayaks and paddle boards for rent, it is a great place to spend a day. The first portion of the park is a shady forest with a nature trail and picnic shelters scattered throughout. On moving through the park you come to the coast with a mile (1.6 km) long boardwalk to the beach where people fish, swim and ride jet skis.

When in Tarpon Springs, we almost always stop at Fred Howard Park. The kids like to rent kayaks and go and explore, and I like to relax on the beach. There aren’t the crowds that you would find at Clearwater, so it’s a bit more laid back.

Fred Howard Park, spanning 155 acres, is one of the most-visited beach parks in the city, welcoming millions of visitors annually.

Love this little beach! The drive through the park and over the causeway is beautiful. Once you get to the beach you’ll find plenty of parking. All day parking is available for $5. Two restroom areas are available on the beach and there’s almost always kayaks, bikes, big wheel water trikes to rent. The water is beautiful but there is sea grass a short way off shore. Most people don’t mind wading into the grass but I prefer staying in the sandy water. It can get crowded during peak season (March) but it’s worth it if you’re looking for a getaway for the day. You can’t beat watching the sunsets!

Lovely area. Nice park with lots of shade. The beach is an island with a one-mile causeway to get there. Crystal clear water and mostly sandy beaches on the ocean side. Trees and bushes also on the island providing shade. Two bathrooms, but no changing rooms. Also no food stands, so bring food and beverages with you.

Nice little walk from the first parking lot, across the causeway, to the beachy area. Round-trip less than 3 miles. There are a few trails, but not quite enough if you are looking for a good 5 to 6 mile workout. The beach area looked welcoming, however I am more of a walker than a tanner and thus can't speak from experience. Saw quite a few birds and watched a couple of dolphins play not too far from shore. Definitely worth a visit. As others mentioned, parking will cost you a few bucks, about half way down the causeway. Parking is free however once you enter the park and prior to getting on the causeway.

Visitors can purchase sea sponges, see docked sponge boats & eat Greek fare at this locale.

Slide 1 of 9

Tarpon Springs' sponge docks, restaurants, and resorts have been in operation for over 135 years, and it's this mix of work and play that continues to draw visitors today. If you and the family have been to all the theme parks, hit the beach, and are casting about for something fun and interesting to do, a day trip to Tarpon Springs and the Sponge Docks are in order. Park the car at one of the many car parks (cheaper as you drive in further) along Dodecanese Boulevard and then just stroll along the wide sidewalks.

You can’t visit Tarpon Springs without spending time at the sponge docks located on the main boulevard, Dodecanese Boulevard!. A favorite spot for both locals and tourists, this is where you’ll find some of the best restaurants and gift shops in town. You’ll likely wind up by the docks if you’re checking out the city’s attractions, so make the most of your time there by walking around and chowing down!

Known as the Sponge Capital of the World, it’s no surprise that one of the top points of interest in Tarpon Springs is the famous Tarpon Springs Sponge Docks. The docks are the heart of the town and where its heritage began. In the late 1800s, the sponge industry boomed with residents harvesting sponges from as far south as Key West.

You can find sponges for sale, watch the sponge diver boats set off to look for sponges, then watch the divers unloading the sponges onto the dock.

If you like shopping, take time out to go to Tarpon Springs Sponge Docks when in Tarpon Springs. Hotels.com travellers also say the area is family-friendly and that it has lots of nice beaches. Splash some more cash at Sponge Exchange and Spongeoramas Sponge Factory.

The Tarpon Springs Sponge Docks is a popular waterfront attraction, featuring some of the best Greek restaurants in the city.

This is a great place for booking activities on the water, enjoying Greek Food, shopping and more. Also watch for good deals on parking, there are some areas for $5 all day. Lots of fun!

Great place to walk if you don't mind paying for parking or the trolley. It's a very Greek district and they're proud of it, with plenty of Greek restaurants. Sponges around here because, well, it's the sponge docks. Restaurants are great but gift shops sell more or less the same stuff, which is great if you love handmade goat milk soap, Tarpon Springs shirts, and reversible plush octopuses. We didn't go on the dolphin tours but considering how many there are, you'll not be at a loss for choice here.

For My RV Brothers and Sisters: Although it was a bleak, overcast day, it was still so worth coming. Learn about Sponge Diving and taste a bit of Greece. Park where it says Buses Welcome. The self serve pay stations do charge $25 for the day. No overnight parking. We ate at Ylanni's and had the Greek Combo Platter for $24.95. Very good. You can eat outside, as well.

A great big wedge of quintessentially Sunshine State wilds that buts up to the northern edge of Tampa city, the Hillsborough River State Park is a patchwork of vine-draped bayous and wetlands, gigantic oak hammocks and mangrove, all hooting with the sounds of tropical birds and the splash of the occasional river alligator. This state park gives you the best parts of natural Florida. It is exceptionally well maintained, and trails are easy to navigate and follow. There is a playground for kids, and my son loves it. There is bountiful wildlife to see here- this past trip we saw lots of turtles and an unusual amount of red shouldered hawks. There is really good tree cover for most of the trails, so it is one of the better trails to undertake during the summertime.

Me and my husband went camping for a couple of days here. Beautiful park with lots of hiking areas near river. Well maintained and lots to see. Both primitive and RV camping available with water and power hookups. Thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Very peaceful when we were there. Can't wait to go back.

Incredible park, the trails are manicured enough to walk but not so much that it makes you feel like it’s too humanized. I came here really wanting to see an alligator and on the way out we were able to see one swimming in the river. The water is crystal clear, you can see TONS of fish swimming around. There were some incredible birds as well and some turtles. Out of our 7 day trip to Tampa this was definitely one of the best places we went.

I went with my Father to get some quality Father & Son time. It was perfect. Staff was helpful to get us started. Suggested routes we could take depending on how much time we had. Lots of gators and birds to take in. Beautiful scenery and plenty of shade. I'm actually planning my next outing with a friend right now so wanted to drop a review of my experience and why I will be going back.

Both Brian and Hunter were awesome and so was my experience with Canoe Escape! I wanted to go kayaking for my birthday, and it was raining on that day. I didn’t mind the rain at all, but Hunter told us that we should paddle back if there was any lightning. I knew that getting lightning’d out was a possibility on a rainy day, but I still wanted to go. I was bummed out when we had to paddle back after maybe 10 minutes of being out on the water. Hunter took care of us and made it so that we could come back in a few days when we were free! I wasn’t expecting a refund or a reschedule so it was an awesome thing that we got to come back. The kayaking itself was really cool. I’ve been kayaking/canoeing/boating 1,000 times over the years but this was really special. It seemed like there was some kind of wildlife around every bend and on every log. It was like playing Pokémon Snap irl. We did the hourly rental for 3 hours, but I definitely recommend taking the van back for those who are beginners or those who don’t want a heck of an arm workout. The current definitely seems small as you’re paddling down the creek, but after you’ve been paddling for a couple hours already, going back up the creek could be tiring for folks who aren’t used to doing it (like kids and the elderly). There were also lots of logs and things to navigate around and that made things really fun. I’d say that it’s really good for beginners and intermediate kayakers!

What a great experience. The river is beautiful, there is tons of wildlife and I love that you get to go at your own pace. The instructors at the beginning were quite helpful and got us started. The trip overall was just what we wanted. Beautiful scenery, lots of alligators and birds and turtles. If you like the canoe or kayak I would highly recommend this.

Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium

Stadium

Sights & Landmarks

This stadium is the spring home of the Detroit Tigers & the season home of the Flying Tigers.

Slide 1 of 3

We have always loved going to the Tigers spring training. Stadium with the new improvements are nice. Sad that you have taken away the vendors that walk around with product. Also, when entering you should have one line for bags and one line for people who DO NOT have bags to search. Quicker lines!

Nice stadium convenient location fun and cheap games lots of fun ! We love coming here as these games really hit home ! See what I did there ! They have great sponsors and a coupon on the ticket for things like boneless wings at hooters . That's a plus and I don't even go to hooters ! We miss the meet and greets with the players , therefore we would like them to come back. The store is pricy but ok for a souvenir store for a baseball game. I got a mini bat and baseball. Batter up ! EDIT ! VISITED TODAY AND I ACTUALLY FOUND A VENOMOUS SPIDER. IM NOT LYING . THE SEATS WERE LOADED WITH WEBS AND I ALMOST GOT BIT. The shade in the upper levels is pretty good. The canteen good is delicious. I got a fry cup , pepperoni super slice , and a souvenir lemonade. Lemonade was very good and the pizza was worth beyond five stars . It wasn't even the best pizza ever 🤣. Fries remind me of the ABC commissary at Hollywood studios with a bit more salt and flavor. They were better than abcc (ABC commissary) . And you get a whole lot more. The Souvenir cups were great. Definitely coming back as I've been coming for more than 5 years !

Spring training home of the Detroit Tigers. Beautiful stadium. Best park to a watch a game in Florida. Minor League games all summer

Hollis Garden

Botanical garden

Nature & Parks

Lakefront botanical garden featuring neoclassical architecture, fountains & a variety of plants.

Slide 1 of 5

If you’re looking for a peaceful and quiet day in a gorgeous surrounding, check out the botanical gardens and arboretums in Orlando. I recommend going to the Mead Botanical Garden, the Harry P. Leu Gardens, or the University of Central Florida Arboretum. You’ll be surrounded by lush trees and bright blooms, and you might learn a thing or two about native flora from the area.

Hollis Garden is a free 1.2 acre botanical garden with over 10,000 different plant species.. The patterned flower beds and ornamental fountains are a beautiful sight to see.

Very beautiful and peaceful. We went on a Sunday afternoon, the weather was great, lots of families all around, but it was not crowded. Beautiful setting right on the lake. Lots of grassy areas for relaxation. It is connected to Barnett Family Playground and Splash Pad, but the playful sounds from the park did not deter from the beauty of the gardens.

Simply beautiful. Quiet peaceful setting just off Lake Mirror in downtown Lakeland. A perfect place to unwind or take pictures. The plants and flowers are majestic and give off a calming vibe as you walk around. Not huge… but we’ll worth the visit. This place has so many photo opportunities and so much to take in … well worth the trip.

Very nice well maintained garden. We loved seeing the multiple fountains, and enjoyed watching the birds give themself a little bath. My oldest son liked the art sculptures that were there. Also enjoyed the little pond with the koi. I think they would benefit from a bigger area to swim. My favorite part was the gardenia trees, they smelled so good when you walked by them. Would definitely recommend a stroll through the garden.
