We have made a very easy craft activity that will work perfectly with the book, Where the Wild Things Are.

Where the Wild Things Are is written and illustrated by Maurice Sendak. Children have been reading about the adventures of Max who sails away to a land where 'Wild Things' are for over fifty years. It is an acknowledged classic and won the Caldecott Gold Medal in 1964. There has since been a movie made as well. It is a very loved story.

Make believe monsters and far away lands are a fantastic way to get the imaginations of young minds working. What better way to do this than with some cute 'Wild Things' masks. We have a complete resource with step-by-step instructions and all the printables you will need to make this super easy craft. It includes both a colour option and black and white which children can colour themselves.

Where the Wild Things Are is a classic picture book for young children. It is about Here are Where the Wild Things Are activities to try after you read the book. Max wears a wolf suit and causes havoc in the house. So his parents send him to Max’s room to bed and that is where the adventure starts in this great book. From wild creatures and the land of the wild things, one of the great things about this children’s book is that it inspires us to imagine and create.

What is the message behind Where the Wild Things Are?

Psychoanalyst Joan Raphael-Leff, points out that this story acknowledges that when a child is in a crazed tantrum, they lose sight of all the good in that moment. What is often overlooked, she says, is the effect a child's emotions has on the carers, and all the wild things they stir up within the grown-up.

Where the Wild Things Are guided questions?

    You might include questions like:.
How do you think Max feels when his mother sends him to his room?.
Do you think a forest really grew in Max's room? ... .
Max wanted to be where “someone loved him best of all." Why is it important to feel loved "best of all"?.
Do you think the Wild Things are real?.

What does Where the Wild Things Are teach kids?

Ultimately, this beautiful children's book has so much to teach children and adults alike about storytelling. It is easy to see the importance of honesty, transformational personal struggle, and a grounding force in every opportunity to tell a story. As Max would say, “Let the wild rumpus start!”
