FALL RIVER — After months of construction, an opening date is finally set for the first Chick-fil-A in Greater Fall River. The new restaurant, located at 700 William S. Canning Blvd, will open on Wednesday, July 6, according to a press release sent out by the company.

The company signed a lease agreement with SouthCoast Marketplace in the fall of last year. The busy shopping center is located between Route 24 and Route 18 and anchored by Market Basket, T.J.Maxx and a Picture Show movie theater,

The restaurant will be the first Chick-fil-A to open in Fall River. Currently, the next closest in-person locations are in Seekonk and Attleboro, with a location in Providence that offers just delivery.

The restaurant will offer dine-in, drive-thru and carry-out service from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Mondays through Saturdays. Like other Chick-fil-A locations, it will be closed on Sundays.

The location will have about 130 full- and part-time employees, according to the release.

Julie Gallagher is the independent franchised owner/operator for the Fall River location.

"As full-time, hands-on leaders in their restaurants, Chick-fil-A Owner/Operators proudly reside in the communities in which they serve," the company said in the release.

Giving back

In honor of the opening, Chick-fil-A, Inc. plans to donate $25,000 to Feeding America, a national non-profit that runs a network of agencies like food pantries, soup kitchen and shelters.

“These funds will be distributed to partners in the greater Providence area to aid in the fight against hunger,” the company said in the release.

The new restaurant is also recognizing “100 local heroes making an impact in the Fall River area” with free Chick-fil-A meals for a year and will be participating in the company’s Shared Table program, which “redirects surplus food from the restaurant to local soup kitchens, shelters, food banks and nonprofits in need.”

Soon, Chick-fil-A will be adding Fall River to their list of locations.

With current offerings in Seekonk and South Attleboro, the restaurant chain will soon be taking orders from what used to be the empty parcel of land near the back of the lot at SouthCoast Marketplace.

Julie Gallagher is owner/operator of the soon-to-be Fall River location. Jared Stump, the Social Media Director for Chick-fil-A Fall River stated that the team is shooting for an opening at the end of June, but that isn’t 100% nailed down yet.

Special opening day festivities are planned, but have yet to be revealed.

Chick-fil-A is known for, of course, chicken. The franchise states that they focus on in-store food preparation and serving chicken that is whole breast meat raised with no antibiotics, fillers or added hormones. Fresh produce is delivered several times a week. Salads are prepared to order throughout the day and their famous Chick-fil-A Lemonade® is prepared daily with lemon juice, pure cane sugar and water.

Fall River’s Chick-fil-A restaurant will operate between the hours of 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with breakfast served from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and lunch and dinner served from 10:30 a.m. until 10 p.m.

Locations are closed on Sundays so that employees can set aside one day to rest and worship if they choose. It is a tradition that they have upheld since founder Truett Cathy opened the first location in 1946.
