Thing 1 and Thing 2

Thing One and Thing Two are human-like twins from The Cat in the Hat book. They were released from the box that the cat brought in to introduce to Conrad, Sally, and the fish. The things later caused mischief by recklessly flying kites in the house which bumped the wall and also knocked everything down in their path. Conrad was able to stop the things with a net. They were also taken away by the Cat, who put them back in the box. As of now, they also appear in the TV series The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That!, voiced by Rob Tinkler.

At some point there happens to be a Thing Three and Thing Four if the Cat ever needs extra help.

In the 2003 film, Thing One is played Danielle Chuchran and Taylor Rice, and Thing Two was played by Brittany Oaks and Talia-Lynn Prairie, but Dan Castellaneta provided the voices for both of the two Things. In the deleted scenes of this film, the Things stall Joan Walden from getting home by three methods of a flood.

In the video game based on the 2003 film, they were both voiced by Kath Soucie.

In the 1971 cartoon short, Thing 1 was voiced by the late Thurl Ravenscroft, and Thing 2 was voiced by the late Lewis Morford.

In the mid-80's, Thing 1 was voiced by Phil Hartman, and Thing 2 was voiced by Jon Lovitz.

The Things as they appear in 2003's The Cat in the Hat

Thing 1 and Thing 2 are meet-and-greet characters located in the Seuss Landing area of Islands of Adventure at Universal Orlando Resort. They are associates of The Cat in the Hat, and share his overall goals of helping children find ways to have fun. However, they are also far more mischievous, and cause more of the damage in the house of the Unnamed Narrator Boy and Sally. In addition to being meet-and-greet characters, Thing 1 and Thing 2 also appear in The Cat in the Hat ride, and feature a larger role than in the book of the same name, as a significant portion of the ride focuses on the damage they cause in the house. In addition, much of the merchandise based on the characters of Dr. Seuss at Universal Orlando Resort is based on their labeled clothing.

Background

Thing 1 and Thing 2 are two dwarf-like humanoid creatures with messy light blue hair, completely white skin, and red body suits. They are identical in appearance, except for the circular labels on the chest of their body suits, which are labeled with "Thing 1" and "Thing 2" to tell them apart. They are associates of The Cat in the Hat, but their affiliation with him is unknown.

Unlike The Cat, the Things do not speak, but generally make various noises such as laughing. They first appear when The Cat introduces them by releasing them from a red crate. They then proceed to wreak havoc in the house of the Unnamed Narrator Boy and his sister Sally, before being caught by the Unnamed Narrator Boy with a net, though the damage has already been done. They later return to help The Cat clean up the house before the kids' mother arrives.

Park Appearances

Thing 1 and Thing 2 can be found in the Seuss Landing area of Islands of Adventure, where they appear as meet-and-greet characters. They usually accompany The Cat in the Hat. As major characters in the book of the same name, they also appear in The Cat in the Hat ride. Their role in the ride is similar to that of the book, but they are featured slightly more significantly due to a portion of the ride focusing on the duo wreaking havoc in the house of the Unnamed Narrator Boy and Sally, all while The Fish watches in horror, pleading them to stop.

Thing 1 and Thing 2 are also frequently used as the basis for park merchandise based on the Seuss Landing area, especially for clothing that resembles their labeled bodysuits.

Trivia
