The following Cantonese sauce recipe is quick, easy, tasty, and can be easily tossed in a wok or frying pan with meats and vegetables.

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 Onions, chopped
  • 2 Tomatoes, sliced
  • 1 Teaspoon of Minced Fresh Ginger
  • 1 Teaspoon of Garlic, minced
  • 1 Teaspoon of Sugar
  • ½ Teaspoon of Salt
  • 3 Tablespoons of Soy sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon of Fish sauce (optional)
  • 1 Tablespoon of Cornstarch (optional thickener)

Method

Step One: In a bowl, stir together the olive oil, prepared onions, tomatoes, ginger root, and garlic. Season with sugar, salt, soy (and fish) sauce.

Step Two: Place in a Wok/frying pan, to begin cooking with your other ingredients.

Notes

  • If you want a thicker sauce, you can always add cornstarch.
  • To do so, you will need to mix equal amounts of cornstarch and water in a separate cup first, and then add to the sauce when it is in the wok/frying pan.
  • You will also need to add the cornstarch mixture slowly until it thickens and stir continuously. It should thicken in 5-10 mins.
