Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 character mods

The popularity of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 has skyrocketed in recent times, with a small but dedicated modding community adding a variety of features to this ten-year-old fighting game, including a selection of (mostly) brand new characters into the game. In addition to new characters, modders have added stage edits and new alternate costumes and changed some character animations. With the disappointment of Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite and the resurging interest in older games in the series like Marvel vs. Capcom 2, modders have dedicated themselves to making the game that Marvel and Capcom aren't giving them.

Technically speaking, character mods do not outright add new characters into the game's roster. Instead, they replace existing character slots, import new models and give the modded character their own unique movesets without changing the original character's functionality. Entire models, colors, voice clips, animations and effects can be modified and changed to match another character based on the modder's wishes. Most of these mods can be found on Gamebanana.com, with instructions for installing that should be easy for players to follow even if they're new to modding.

The cornerstone of MvC3 modding is the inclusion of Cyclops, leader of the X-Men and a fan-favorite character whose assist potential and extremely good combos have consistently made him a very popular character to use among Marvel vs. Capcom veterans. Unfortunately, as part of Marvel's then-ongoing campaign to move focus away from the X-Men, Cyclops was left out in favor of Wolverine as the frontline X-Man for Marvel 3. Thanks to the efforts of modder "tabs" and their friends in the community, they have managed to modify Crimson Viper and transform her into the beloved optic-blasting mutant to the point of matching his Marvel vs. Capcom 2 moveset almost completely.

Another major character mod by tabs and their team is Rashid from the Street Fighter series, a popular newcomer to Street Fighter V who uses turbulent winds to give himself an edge in battle. Replacing Viewtiful Joe's character slot, Rashid is a particularly extensive character mod for barely even resembling Joe's moves in any matter. Because Rashid is a very fast-moving character who utilizes a lot of air-based juggling attacks, something unique for a Street Fighter character, he turns out to be an absolutely perfect fit for the Marvel vs. Capcom roster.

One of the more recent extensive character mods announced is Juri Han, Street Fighter's resident villainess since Super Street Fighter IV. Made by user MarrowOchi, the mod is still a work-in-progress. It hasn't been announced what character is being replaced. Still, it's relatively easy to see leftover animations from Morrigan of Darkstalkers fame. Since the two characters are femme fatales who utilize flashy kicks in their movesets, this choice of replacement is quite fitting.

Modders have also added a massive library of alternate costumes and skins to existing characters, though most of them don't change anything else about the original animations or meshes. Players can find a DMC1 costume for Dante, a Miles Edgeworth alternate costume for Phoenix Wright, werewolf Captain America and even characters from non-Marvel/Capcom properties like 2B from Nier: Automata and Pyrrha Nikos from RWBY. Many mods also offer animation modifiers like Vergil's moveset from DMC5 and funny sound replacements like Iron Man performing Djchamploo's Infinite Combo tutorial.

The massive library of mods that Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 has at its disposal has breathed new life into the game, showing that players still love and appreciate the hard work of pitting these two universes against each other. Hopefully, sometime soon, not only will fans get their wishes from enthusiastic modders and developers respectful enough to remaster the games, but also that Marvel will collaborate with Capcom once again to enact a new installment in the beloved fighting game crossover.

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 has received yet another mod that adds more characters to the game. This is due to the boom of new modders that have taken interest in the 10-year-old fighting game.

Originally, modding The Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 was a simple affair with players changing color palettes and re-using animations. With time and the rapid growth of the community, the new mods for the game are getting more polished every time something new pops up. A mod pack from the modder ‘Tabs’ has been released this week for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. The mod pack includes 20 characters introduced to the game and one of the added contenders is Street Fighter 5’s Rashid.

Modder ‘Tabs’ has released a full trailer showcasing each of these new contenders and their move lists. He has also added a list of changes and specifics detailing everything that comes with the mod.
