Razer Viper Ultimate vs Orochi V2

5.0 out of 5 stars Orochi v2 versus G305
Reviewed in the United States on May 3, 2021

I have been searching for the right mouse and thus far have tried the G305, Glorious model D, Razer viper ultimate, and finally the Orochi. All these mice are premium and well made. Out of the mice I have tried, the G305 and Orochi v2 fit me the best. I have relatively smaller hands and I find it very comfortable to palm grip and finger grip the orochi. It’s very light weight and has low friction glides. It’s body is slightly wider than the G305 as well as being a bit shorter and a more pronounced hump near the center. Both the G305 and the Orochi v2 perform fantastically with great weight, glides, sensors, and size. While these two mice look the same at first glance, the Orochi provides a nice curve where your thumb naturally tends to rest and helps keep the side buttons accessible while the G305 is truly symmetrical in shape and I found my thumb drifting away from the side buttons often. The G305 lends itself better to fingertip or claw grip styles while the orochi may accommodate palm grip with smaller hands like mine. Overall the choice for either is a great value and for me came down to the orochi being a bit lighter and more comfortable to use but it does cost nearly double the G305. Razer has produced a mouse that feels like the next generation of refinement on Logitech’s beloved G305.

Coming from the the $20 wired razer deathadder, the orochi v2 changed my life forever. When I built my PC I was using the previously mentioned mouse and I thought it was all I would ever need. I thought that wireless and lightweight mouses were pointless. It was until my scroll wheel broke on that mouse that I decided that I needed a new one. I figured I would invest in a mouse that was a bit more expensive, and perhaps even a wireless one if it was in my budget. It came down to the logitech g305 and this orochi v2. I ended up settling for the orochi v2 because it was smaller, and most reviewers compared it to some of the higher ends mouses on the market- if I recall correctly, the specs may also be a bit better than the g305.
This mouse would change my life forever. Not only is it so light, but the pads on the bottom made moving it across my mousepad so effortless. seemingly frictionless. I felt as if I had become one with the mouse itself. It includes a AA lithium battery that is still running even after two months of extensive use. It feels great to not have to worry about cables being caught onto the edge of my desk. I should mention that the sensor under the mouse seems to be positioned a bit higher than a typical mouse would, so it may take a bit of getting used to for wrist motion. The mouse is amazing nonetheless, and I finally came to understand what it means to have a "good mouse". for $40 you cannot beat that price. get it.

To start I would like to say that I have owned several wireless "gaming" mice as well as many wired "gaming" mice. This is my new favorite. Razer deathadder, several logitech and steelseries.

The response time with the usb receiver is so fast you would think it is wired. It is small, though shaped perfectly to hold comfortably and confidently with your fingertips and upper palm. I didn't think I would like the shape but I ended up loving it. It is very light and glides on the mousepad with such little effort. The tracking is smooth and consistent. The lift off distance is incredibly small.
My aim in every game is so much more consistent and effortless. I didn't think a mouse could make such a difference after having so many good mice. And its wireless! Amazing.
The included battery has lasted many moths so far, more than satisfactory.

One issue I have is that the side buttons are sticky. This is out of the box new, nothing spilt on it or worn out. If you let the mouse sit overnight and then press the side buttons in the morning they have a strange resistance. After a few presses they loosen up. Its very strange. You can still use them when you need but the feedback is inconsistent as a result. This is probably just my unit but it may happen to you too.

I had the Razer basilisk X, the battery life claimed was about half of this mice. However, the basilisk can do dpi 2250, where most of the Logitech mice can also do. This mouse however can only do 2200 or 2300. I prefer 2250 for both work and play. The claimed battery on this mice was also misleading because it came with a Energizer ultimate lithium. Every other wireless mice I’ve gotten came with the standard copper top. I put a 100% charged Eneloop pro to the mice, and immediately it shows 75% battery left.

I’m sure if I put an Energizer lithium in to my Logitech 305s be much lighter.
But overall, this mouse is still a keeper. Fits my hand just fine. Dual battery is cool, but just a gimmick IMO.

I am on my computer often (hours a day for work and play). I gamed for decades and always had the best mice. But, the last year few years I haven't gamed much and had been using something not so great. I play a game here or there again and decided I wanted something great again. I want a mouse that will last many years (something that you have to put batteries into / not rechargeable), that is fairly small and light (which I've always preferred), has no fancy lights, long battery life, responsive & accurate, and good quality / feel.

This clicks all the boxes! It allows you to use a AA or a AAA; only one at a time, do not insert both. The AAA option is for the lightest weight. I admit I haven't used that option. I want the longevity of the AA over the AAA (usually rechargeable AAA's are under 1000mah, and AA's are over 2000mah - so you get 2 to 3 times more battery life with the AA). I use rechargeable batteries in everything; however, the first battery I used in this mouse is an Energizer lithium. I want to see how long it lasts with a normal high quality battery (so far, 30 days with ~7 hours of computer use a day. I never turn the mouse off, it is always switched to 2.4 and turned on when I am away from computer). With the AA the feel and balance is great. One of best feeling mice I have used. Has plenty of buttons for my uses. Extreme gamers may want more. I barely use the few extra it has. The buttons all feel good and sturdy. They should last, I hope. It looks classy, I have the white color.

I like that is has both bluetooth and 2.4 modes. The 2.4 mode will give you the best performance. However, it will also cut the battery life! The bluetooth mode will give you a ton more battery life; however, you will lack some performance. I have not tested bluetooth mode at all yet, I wanted to test the mouse fully with this first battery before doing that. In the future, I may switch between bluetooth mode and 2.4 mode when I switch from normal computing to gaming. I only game say, 1 out of 7 hours I am on the computer. So, that is a potential benefit. I also like it has the bluetooth in case I want to take it anywhere for work computing, with a laptop or tablet. Then, I can leave the 2.4 usb card in my desktop at home, and still have a great mouse for on the go. When I bring it home, it's all ready again.

Overall I am very happy with it after having it for a month now and using it daily. I hope it lasts for years.

*Update. My mouse battery finally died for the first time on March 27, 2022. It was working perfect, then suddenly the cursor stopped moving. It lasted about 2.5 months with an Energizer Lithium (2.4ghz whole time, mouse never turned off). Not bad! I assume a good rechargeable (Eneloop) will give me at least 2 months (and with rechargeable batteries, I will just replace every 2 months (maybe even every month), just so I know my mouse will never stop working when I need it)).

I really like how the mouse is light and slim, well built. However, I was trying to use it on a laptop with other wireless devices and it just does not work well via bluetooth - it works like it's a low quality sensor. When I connect it through the built in 2.4 GHz plug, it works perfect (although not using dongle with an USB port was the main reason I looked at it).
Finally, if you, like me, were looking for a bluetooth mouse that would save you a port - this one did not work for me (while using a wireless keyboard and headphones).

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than G305

Reviewed in Canada on April 29, 2021

My main complaint about the G305 was the lack of ergonomy on the sides... and this Orochi v2 resolves that problem by having a slightly concave side so my thumb can naturally rest on it. Its size is perfect for my smaller hands so I am thankful to Razer for that, lol. Black one was out of stock, but I gotta give style points to the White edition. Clicks are louder than G305 (minor complaint). Sides buttons are solid. These are my first impressions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Razer put the effort in.

I'd like to start off by saying I got the Finalmouse Starlight 12 a couple of days after this mouse. A$200 USD mouse made of milled magnesium, limited to 20,000 units, which sold out in a few minutes. Hailed as the best mouse ever by many reviewers, and weighing less than anything else on the market.

I decided to resell it after a few hours of using it. I also sold my Logitech G Pro wireless. I like the Orochi V2 that much more.

The main reason for this is the shape. My hand is wider than average. Medium gloves fit me fine but leave lots of finger room. Small is the right length but extremely right. I have sausage fingers. If you don't have sausage fingers you might not come to the same conclusion.

The shape of the mouse also forces me into a fingertip grip. I usually do a kind of hybrid grip where there's very light contact with the meat of my palm and I mostly aim with fingertip and arm flicks. This mouse is much shorter and I find there's more fingertip control as a result.

I also love a lot of the design in this mouse. The asymmetrical side ledge that lets me lift the mouse but doesn't cramp my pinky like the G305. The double battery compartments that are balanced (I use lithium AAA). The option for 2.4ghz or bluetooth. The tuning of the clicks, they feel like the perfect crispness for me. The higher position of the sensor, something about it is just different in the right way. The feel of the mouse wheel. The solid construction. The large teflon feet that I don't need to replace with an aftermarket solution. It feels like they took everything that was good about the G305 and made it all notably better instead of just cloning it. I really think the engineers put a lot of time and thought on this one, because I've been very lukewarm on every Razer mouse before this one.

It usually takes me a week or 2 to warm up to a new mouse. My aim accuracy was 3-5% better within the first day of using it. Flicks go where I expect them to go without over or under shooting and needing to check and adjust. The mouse feels more like an extension of my hand than any other mouse I've used, and I feel happy every time I swap from another mouse back to this one.

The only gripes I'd have with it would be that need for disposable batteries (might buy rechargeable lithiums eventually) and... Maybe the order of the switch on the bottom? I'd prefer the off position not be in the middle so you could turn it off without looking. Really, that's about it. The sensor has given me zero issues and I'm still on my first set of batteries.

If my kid smashed this mouse today, I'd go and buy a second one tomorrow and would consider no other mouse.

2.0 out of 5 stars Super Light, Quite Small (UPDATED Less than a Month Later)

Reviewed in Canada on April 28, 2022

This mouse is going to take some getting used to. I was using a much bigger and heavier Microsoft Surface mouse and I am instantly satisfied with the lighter form factor here. I don't feel like I'm having to fight with my equipment to use it. The small size is ok, it's not uncomfortable, it's just going to take a while to get used to for gaming.

Overall, highly recommend this. Especially at this price point.

UPDATE:
This product stopped working properly less than a month after purchase!

I bought this APRIL 26th 2022, and it is now MAY 15th 2022... The mouse cuts off at weird moments, and sometimes becomes quite choppy to use. I changed the battery, and even paid $50 for a PCIe Network Card thinking that it was my BT dongle that isn't working! But even with a high performance Network card, this thing worked for 5 minutes, and then I ran into the same issues again!

DO NOT BUY!

PS. Battery IS included (thanks Razer)

3.0 out of 5 stars Good mouse, bad dongle, and bluetooth is inherently flawed.

Reviewed in Canada on October 14, 2022

The mouse itself is great. Good design, easy to open up to access either battery slots (since it accepts AAA or AA) and the dongle slot (which unlike some other mice isn't easy to lose since it is literally inside of the mouse), and is also lightweight without being poorly built.

The dongle, however, is poor. Tested in multiple USB ports, it is so tight of a fit that I could flip my laptop port-side up and pick up the entire 1.4 kg laptop by pulling upward on the dongle. That is unacceptable, the risk of port damage is too high. To be fair, the laptop is brand new and has never had anything plugged into the USB port before, but it was still a very unusually tight in my desktop's ports, and I had to strain to pull it out.

RTings tested this mouse to have extremely low latency, 3.9 ms click latency on dongle, 11.4 ms click latency on bluetooth, which is practically the limit for both types of connections (in fact, the dongle latency beat out the click latencies of many wired gaming mice). However, low click latency does not mean low overall latency or a good experience. While on dongle, this mouse performed exactly perfectly and had no issues, but bluetooth had some weird behaviours.

One of the main reasons I bought this mouse is for use in school, where I'd prefer not to have to use a dongle in favor of bluetooth functionality so that I don't have to plug/unplug every single class. However, the bluetooth had significantly different behaviour compared to the dongle. There was some weird mouse acceleration likely caused by the low polling rate on bluetooth that made 1000 dpi on bluetooth performs most similarly to 1600 dpi on the dongle, yet also still inaccurate in comparison so that it cannot be used with good precision.

I tested this on multiple tracking surfaces including mousepads, and the performance was the same on all of them, which is a good thing, but also means that the mousepads did not fix the accuracy issues.

The mouse button also makes a very clear click sound, which might be favorable to some, but unfortunately not favorable for me since it can be distracting to use in class.

The mouse is also on the smaller side, which is another personal preference thing, but quite optimal for portability which I wanted.

Battery life is untested since I only recently got the mouse, though I'm using a AAA battery for lower weight so I will be getting about a third of the maximum battery life. Considering the maximum advertised battery life is very good, I do not expect this to be a problem for me. Obviously lacks charging since it uses a separate battery so I do recommend keeping an extra battery in your bag, but this shouldn't be a big issue.

I bought this mouse at $45.99 CAD, and for this price, I think it is worth it still despite the flaws, since it is the cheapest competent bluetooth mouse. At the normal price of $89.50 CAD? I think there are proabbly better options.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Gaming Wireless Mouse [Currently my main]

Reviewed in Canada on May 8, 2022

This is the best wireless mouse I've used.

Before I continue, I own 8 different mice. The notable ones I own are the Razer Viper series (both Ultimate and Mini), Logitech G Pro X Superlight, Glorious Model 0 Wireless. This took my number 1 spot and replaced the Viper Ultimate as my main mouse. Here are the notable things I like from it.

Price - Currently on Sale right now (MSRP is 79.99 CAD), very cheap for the quality that you're getting. IMO it's still a great price at 79.99 CAD, so even if it's not on sale grab it.

Shape - My hand size is 20x11 and my grip style is a mix of Fingertip and Claw, it fits perfectly in my hand. I was actually a little surprised at how well it fit me because this is a very small mouse. The shape of this is like an egg, and the top is a little high. If you use palm grip I would reconsider, however I've heard a lot of people who uses palm grip on this and they said it's just fine for them.

Finish - The finish of this mouse is more-so like a textured matte. I have sweaty hands, and when I'm on high pressure situations on games my hands tend to get sweaty, and the matte finish makes it very easy to hold. Definitely something I value highly.

Build Quality and Battery Life - This mouse has spectacular build quality. The buttons are very responsive and the battery life is exemplary. To add to this, the way they placed the side buttons are something that I really like. It doesn't sit too flat on the side of the mouse, it's more so protruding a bit so it's easy to press.

Cons:

So Far none, I would probably update the review if I get problems in the future. The only thing I would technically be aware of is that the USB Dongle should be placed at a USB 3.0 hub. If you place it at a 2.0 or lesser USB Hub, you will start to get delayed inputs. ONLY PLACE THE DONGLE IN A 3.0 HUB.

That's about it! This is my main mouse currently, so I'd be using this a LOT and so far Im in love with this little beast!

Update 1: I own this mouse for 5 months now and use it daily. So far I have no problems yet. The only little thing I've noticed is the right click and the left click buttons (around where I generally press the buttons with my finger) the texture has slightly worn off. Overall it's just a very minute thing, so this mouse still holds and will definitely still continue to be my main for months/years to come.

Razer Viper Ultimate vs Orochi V2

Razer Viper Ultimate vs Orochi V2

Is Orochi V2 better than Viper Ultimate?

Our Verdict. The Razer Viper Ultimate is a better wireless gaming mouse than the Razer Orochi V2. The Ultimate is lighter, has two side buttons on each side, connects wirelessly with a USB receiver, and has a rechargeable battery.

Is Orochi V2 good for gaming?

The Razer Orochi V2 is very good for FPS gaming. It's lightweight, feels well-built, and has extremely low click latency, though we recommend using the USB receiver for best performance. It's ideal for a fingertip grip for large and medium-sized hands or other grip types for smaller hands.

Is Razer Orochi V2 loud?

The Orochi v2 features Razer's 2nd gen mechanical switches, which are modified Kailh GM 4s. The clicks have very good tactility although they were quite loud. The scroll wheel has clearly defined steps, and finally a mouse with a good middle click. It wasn't overly heavy like on most mice.

Is Viper Ultimate the best mouse?

Price: $99. The Viper Ultimate could just be the best wireless gaming mouse you can get today. It's very expensive, but the G Pro Wireless still costs a bit more and doesn't come with a dock. The Viper Ultimate trumps it in many other ways too – it's got a better cable, a more advanced sensor, and is lighter.
