Sonic 99 cent drinks before 11

Dining at Sonic Drive-In is unlike other fast-food chains, thanks to its ordering bays and servers on skates. Even though the chain has the feel of the 1950s, the prices are definitely not from a time long ago. However, you can still find big savings because of frequent Sonic specials and discounts.

Do you love food deals? Our Restaurant Deals page gives you more!

The chain, which has more than 2,500 locations in 46 U.S. states, serves up the American favorites you’d expect to find at a 1950s drive-in – burgers, fries and shakes. The popular Sonic shakes are much better than you’d expect from your typical fast-food restaurant – each topped with whipped cream and a cherry! Frugal foodies know to look out for Sonic’s half-price deals to pick up a delectable drink for less.

Dining at Sonic Drive-In offers a fun experience for families, thanks to the unique ordering and delivery process. Read on to learn how bargain hunters can save money with ongoing Sonic deals and specials.

Sonic Deals and Specials

Here are some great deals you can find at Sonic Drive-In:

Sonic happy hour

Need an afternoon pick-me-up? Sonic offers a daily happy hour with 50% off drinks and slushes from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. This deal is the chain’s longest-running offer and it covers all drinks, including soft drinks, iced teas and slushes. Plus, you can get the special half-price beverages all day, when you order via its app.

Sonic’s happy hour deals can be combined with whatever other offers are currently available. That means you can double-dip and enjoy a meal or snack with a drink for just a few bucks.

Note: The daily offer does not include any shakes.

Half-price shakes at Sonic

The fast-food restaurant “shakes up” late nights every spring and summer with its most popular deal, Sonic Nights — 50% off Sonic shakes after 8 p.m. With the deal, get a shake for roughly $1 to $3, depending on the type and size. It’s the perfect cool treat on a hot summer night.

Sonic’s half-price shakes deal typically runs from Memorial Day (sometimes earlier) to Labor Day. However, the chain hit pause on the promo for 2020. If you’re wondering if Sonic is doing half-price shakes this year, at this time, it’s unknown if the deal will return in 2021.

50-cent corn dogs at Sonic

Sonic used to regularly offer 50-cent corn dogs throughout the year, especially on Best Friends Day and Halloween. However, the corny deal has slowed recently. Your best bet for cheap corn dogs is to sign up for the chain’s text updates for when they offer the mustard-laden discount.

Sonic Tuesday Night Special: Half-price cheeseburgers

Frugal families know that Tuesday night is the time to head to Sonic Drive-In to feed everyone on the cheap. Customers can get 50% off single-patty cheeseburgers every Tuesday from 5 p.m. to closing, when you order online or via the Sonic app. The cheeseburgers are regularly around $5 each.

Sonic coupons

The restaurant is not known for offering any coupons, paper or electronic. However, fans can find Sonic’s exclusive deals via its app – usually half-price on a particular menu item — or via text. Text DRIVEIN to 876642 to sign up for alerts. Many of these Sonic specials require a promo code for redemption.

Best deals and one-day Sonic specials

For years, Sonic regularly offered one-day specials, such as 50% off cheeseburgers, 50-cent corn dogs, half-price ice cream cones and more. The deals were open to all customers and usually offered on holidays or other days of note (first day of summer, back-to-school, etc.)

Now most one-day deals are only offered via the chain’s app. You can also stay informed by signing up for text updates. To be in the loop for general one-day Sonic deals (especially on major holidays), follow the chain on social media for updates.

The restaurant also offers a round-up of currently available specials on its website’s deals page, including Sonic deals available via its app. Check here to see if fan favorites — such as the $2.99 Carhop Classic (a double cheeseburger or crispy tender sandwich and medium tots for $2.99) or 99-cent drink deals before 10 a.m. Or, you can always sign-up for email updates to stay on top of the chain’s deals, limited-time menu items and app discounts.

NOTE: Not all locations offer the same national promotions. As a result, price and participation may vary. It’s always wise to call ahead for verification in your area. Living on the Cheap strives to keep up with limited-time offers, but deals may end without notice.

Sonic Everyday Deals value menu

Sonic’s value menu is called Everyday Deals, and it offers a variety of items at special prices. Discounted menu items include the chicken slinger, quarter pound double cheeseburger, grilled cheese sandwich, vanilla cone and breakfast burrito. Prices vary by location.

Loyalty club

Unfortunately, the restaurant does not offer any loyalty club or rewards program at this time.

Delivery and online orders

While Sonic does not offer any delivery service itself, you can order food from Sonic Drive-In from most third-party delivery services, including DoorDash, Grubhub and Uber Eats – just expect to pay additional fees.

Can you order Sonic online? Yes! If you’re in a hurry, you can order food online for pickup via Sonic’s app or website. You can even schedule a pick-up time anytime during business hours. This is especially helpful for busy families – mom or dad can pick up dinner on the way home from work.

Sonic App

Just like every restaurant chain, Sonic Drive-In has an app for customer convenience. However, its usefulness is limited. You can basically review the menu, access “app rewards” and order ahead.

“App rewards” are exclusive Sonic deals for customers who download the app. The specials are usually 50% off select menu items. Plus, for a limited time, you can enjoy the happy hour special (half-price drinks) all day on the app – every time you order ahead.

The Sonic app (or online ordering) is the only way to chomp on the chain’s half-price cheeseburgers every Tuesday night – from 5 p.m. to closing. Combine the cheesy offer with the half-price drinks available on the app and enjoy a frugal family feast for around $20. If you’re dining solo, get a cheeseburger, drink and side for around $6 – your very own meal deal.

If you place a mobile order, you can only pay with a credit card. You can’t pay with cash on the Sonic app.

Sonic Menu

What can you get to eat at Sonic? Sonic’s menu features American classics, such as burgers, fries and shakes. However, they also serve hot dogs, corn dogs, chili dogs and a variety of chicken items (from tenders to sandwiches.) You can’t be a 1950s drive-in without lots of tasty sides, so Sonic also serves up tater tots, onion rings, mozzarella sticks and jalapeno poppers, as well as desserts.

The chain is well-known for its large selection of beverages. Choose from coffee, soft drinks, slushes, iced teas, lemonades and limeades. (Yes, they also serve coffee.) Customers can easily customize a beverage to their liking with Sonic’s wide variety of flavors and mix-ins, everything from sweet to sour.

But the most iconic beverage on the menu is the Sonic shake. The chain offers the standard flavors — vanilla, chocolate and strawberry — but also banana, caramel, hot fudge and peanut butter. In addition to these Classic Shakes, Sonic also serves Master Shakes with premium ingredients mixed in. (The latter are a little more expensive.)

The Sonic menu also features a limited breakfast menu – mostly Breakfast Toaster sandwiches and breakfast burritos. Unlike other fast-food chains, Sonic Drive-In serves its entire menu all day long. That means you can grab a breakfast burrito for dinner, when the craving hits. You can even sip on a shake late at night, when you’re craving something sweet before bedtime.

Sonic prices vary by location, but most main entrée items range in price from $4 to $6. Shake prices ranges from $2 to $5. Take advantage of Sonic’s half-price deals, and you could get a cheeseburger and drink for under $5.

Sonic hours vary by location, but most locations are open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
