Literary Pumpkin Winners

Hedenkamp News

Thank you to our Hedenkamp community for joining us for our return of our annual Husky Howl last Friday. It was a specatular, family fun evening Thank you to our PTA for sponsoring this wonderful event! A grand applause to PTA and all the volunteers who helped to organize this amazing event. It was a joy to be able to be together and share in the festivities.

We are grateful to our Hedenkamp families for their outstanding support and participation at all our events. Thank you again! Don’t forget to send your photos from Husky Howl to , so we can publish the memories in our yearbook this year.

The festivities continue on Monday with the Halloween holiday. Please remember there are NO costumes allowed at school on October 31, except for our annual kinder parade hosted each year for students. Thank you for your cooperation and remember that gum is not allowed on campus.

Literary Pumpkin Contest Update

There has been some very amazing creativity displayed this week throughout the hallways with our Literary Pumpkin Contest entries. Check out all 134 of our entries compiled by our amazing librarian, Mrs. Camarena. Winners will be announced on Monday morning after our weekly announcements.

Husky Hustle

We are excited to announce the full return of our Husky Hustle each morning before school. Students have the opportunity to run laps and track their miles before school for prizes. All students have been provided their own ID card with a barcode to help track the laps.  We encourage all students to participate.  It is a great way to get some exercise with your friends before school.   If you are on campus between 8:15 and 8:40, get your body moving and join us for the Husky Hustle on the grass field! We can’t wait to see how many miles our Huskies will run this year!

Husky Traits

Thank you, Hedenkamp Families, for your continued support of our School-Wide Behavior Expectations. These behavior expectations ensure a safe and orderly environment for learning. We expect our students to exemplify the HUSKY traits in all areas of the school. H- Hardworking, U- Understanding, S- Showing Respect, K- Kindness, Y- Be Your Best Self.

We are entering week two of our two-week Behavior Focus for our HUSKY Expectations in the Classroom. Our Huskies continue to work on exemplifying these traits daily in the classroom. Please review the classroom expectations with your child to ensure a safe learning environment in the classroom.  

Attendance Matters

Students need to be at school every day and on time. Please make sure your child is here by 8:40 a.m. and lined up on the blacktop (1st-6th grade) or by the classroom (TK-kinder). If your child must be out sick, please contact the office at 619-397-5828 or  to excuse the absence. Remember to bring a doctor’s note. Vacations, dentist, and doctor visits should be scheduled during our breaks whenever possible. If your child misses school, they are missing out on important learning! Our school staff will be meeting with parents/guardians, calling home, and doing home visits for students who are chronically absent.

Husky Wear Arrives this Week!

For those of you that ordered Husky Wear through pre-sales before break, our PTA will be delivering the orders to classrooms on Tuesday, November 1.

Do you feel like you are at your wits end with your child’s behaviors? Have you tried all the punishments and rewards but feel they just aren’t working? You are not alone! So often we find ourselves as parents stuck between trying to be supportive of children’s emotions, while also trying to effectively discipline their behaviors—Yet too often get stuck in a power struggle and the behaviors and meltdowns just don’t stop! Join Chelsea Gould, Licensed Educational Psychologist and mother of a “strong willed child” to learn about Positive Solutions to help support your child’s emotions, while also setting limits and reinforcing the good behaviors you want to see more of.

Thank you to all the families who joined us this week for 130 Year District Celebration hosted at Hedenkamp. It was excellent to see so many families and celebrate this historic event. There is much to be proud of as a community and a district. We look forward to continuing the celebration this Friday at the Husky Howl! Please remember there are no costumes to be worn on Friday to school, it will be a Husky Spirit Day. Students are encouraged to wear their costumes at the Husky Howl on Friday night.

Husky Expectation of the Week

At Hedenkamp, we have School-Wide Behavior Expectations. These behavior expectations ensure a safe and orderly environment for learning. We expect our students to exemplify the HUSKY traits in all areas of the school. H- Hardworking, U- Understanding, S- Showing Respect, K- Kindness, Y- Be Your Best Self.

To help reinforce the expectations, we want to partner with our families to review these expectations at home. We will share with our families the two-week Behavior Focus and the HUSKY Expectations in that area for you to review with your child. We appreciate your help and support in keeping our Huskies safe and learning.

LCFF Lunch Forms

This is the last week for families to submit their LCFF lunch form. We currently still have about 27% of families who have not turned in their application. Although breakfast and lunch is free for all this year, the completed form or application determines the funding allocation for Hedenkamp.

An email was sent to all families who have not yet turned in their lunch form. The Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) application is available online through October 27, 2022. We are greatly appreciative of our families who have completed the application and who will apply this week!

Dismissal/Arrival

Traffic Safety at Dismissal and Arrival is of utmost importance. We kindly ask that you follow all traffic laws and are courteous to all while dropping off or picking up your child at all the designated pick-up and drop-off zones around Hedenkamp. Please observe the speed limit, and if you are on Taber Court, do not double park or block the neighbors’ driveways and always walk on the sidewalk for safety. Keeping our Huskies safe is our priority. Thank you for your patience

Literary Pumpkin Decorating Contest

Our Literacy Pumpkin Decorating Contest has arrived. Don’t forget to turn in your Literary Pumpkin to the library on Monday, October 24, 2022 between 8:15 am-9:15 am. No carved pumpkins will be accepted for entry. We can’t wait to see the artistic expression of our Huskies come to life in the spirit of the pumpkin season. Students will have the opportunity to vote this week on their favorite Literary Pumpkin.

Husky Howl

Wow! It is hard to believe that the return of our annual Husky Howl is just around the corner. The big event will be on Friday, October 28 from 4-8 pm. This is a great family event and we look forward to a terrific evening with our Husky community.

The exciting event is free admission for all. All planned activities and food will require a wristband, ticket, or payment depending on the activity. A detailed description of the prices, activities, and payment options can be found below or by visiting our PTA blog.

Home Access Center

Home Access Center (HAC) is a browser-based student information system that allows you to view student information such as registration, attendance, discipline, and scheduling. All state testing results for your child can be viewed through our Home Access Center, including CAASPP And ELPAC scores. Click on the link below to learn how to register your account or access the login page.

Please note you must register for The HAC with the email you provided to Hedenkamp during registration. You may contact the front office if you need the information or to update your personal information.

CVESD 130 Year Celebration Today!

Don’t forget to join us today at Hedenkamp for this very special celebration of our historic district! We strongly encourage our community neighbors to walk to the event, Taber Drive will be open as an access point for entry into the event. Additional parking is available at Heritage & Parkview Elementary with shuttle service from 4:30-7:30 pm. Street parking will also be available for the event.

For our families who will be picking up their children from the YMCA, we will have a small section of the bus loop reserved for student pick-up. If you are planning to stay for the event, please plan to park in one of the designated areas for the event.

Thank you all for a great return to campus for quarter 2! It is always a pleasure to welcome our families back to campus and to have all our students fill our classrooms.

GATE Classes Begin

We are so excited to launch our GATE classes this coming week for our Huskies. Our GATE classes for quarter 2 have been posted on the GATE blog. If your child is a current GATE student, please take a moment to review the syllabuses and select your GATE class preferences for quarter 2. Based on the preferences, we will be creating classes. The classes will a mix of options for in-person and online.

ELAC Meeting this Thursday

CVESD 130 Year Celebration at Hedenkamp

Don’t forget to join us on campus this Thursday, October 20, 2022 from 5-7 pm, as the Chula Vista Elementary School District will host a 130th-anniversary celebration event at Hedenkamp for all community members to attend. The celebration will have live entertainment from students, interactive activities, games, food, and more! We hope to see you there! 

If you will be on campus to pick-up your child for any after-school program, please be aware of the high levels of traffic which will occur on campus for the event. For all our surrounding community members and neighbors, there will be many cars parked on the parameters of Hedenkamp. We can’t wait to see everyone there to celebrate this very special occasion!

Being absent has lasting impact on your child’s future.  Please make every effort to attend school on time daily.  We understand if your child is sick, otherwise they need to be at school.  Did you know that students attend school 180 days a year?  That means the are “off” 185 days.  Please plan accordingly to have your child at school every day. Miss a day, miss a lot!
