Mega Man classic vs Mega Man X

Mega Man classic vs Mega Man X

As someone that just finished the Legacy Collection (already played 7-10) and has played X 1-3. I got to say while I love the X series I go to say that the classic series to me is funnier and more of challenging to play. Not to mention I prefer the overall character designs and music of the classic over X. So I was wondering which series do you guys prefer: Classic or X?

Mega Man classic vs Mega Man X

level 1

X1-3 are the best Mega Man has to offer, IMO.

level 2

I love all mm games but to me X1 and mmbn 1-3

level 2

Agreed. I think the X series is the best, but the classic is still amazing. I hate it when people trash one of the series because it is different or claim rehash

level 1

I find X superior to classic in every way.

level 1

I've played just about all the games, and as much as I love the classic mega mans, the X collection just has such a great feel to it. Even as as kid I always thought X looked cooler too, and Zero was always cool to me too.

level 1

  • I prefer robot masters to Mavericks in terms of general aesthetic, but...

  • I prefer X to Rock, Zero to Blues, and Vile to Bass in terms of general aesthetic.

  • I prefer MM1, 2, 3, 9, and 10 to any of the X games, but...

  • I prefer MMX to all the rest.

level 1

I've always preferred the X games honestly (Primarily 1-3). I think the design looks a whole lot cooler and I just generally enjoyed them more.

Granted I grew up more on X than the classics, the whole experience of X was better imo.

level 1

I prefer X simply because it actually has a clear story, the idea of reploids is pretty awesome in my opinion and the gameplay

level 1

X enhanced the series fantastically. My vote goes to X.

level 1

As much as I loved the classic megaman games, I enjoyed the "diversity" in the art direction the X games took ( I mean more complex desings in the mavericks, the hunters and the stages). Not to mention the music, it got progressively better over the years.

level 1

Mega Man X was one of my first video games, so I might be a little biased, but I like the X series a lot more. There just seems to be more to it. Both series are very creative, but I like when the challenge comes from level design, not unresponsive or clunky controls. And while the music is great in both (and I concede a lot more iconic in the original series), I always get the BGM from X stuck in my head over the originals.

level 2

I feel the same. MMX had super tight controls. Dashing and wall-jumping just gave a lot more mobility, speed and control. To me it's an improvement over classic in almost every way.

level 2

You feel classic Mega Man had clunky controls?

level 1

Megaman X is way more fun :)

level 1

I like the slower, more controlled pacing of the classic series. Not that the X games are bad or sloppy or anything, but I prefer the pacing of the classic series. I also think the Robot Masters are infinitely more memorable than the Mavericks, the Robot Masters always stuck in my head, the first time you faced off against them they were memorable, the Mavericks just felt more like generic "end of level bosses" for the most part.

While X is REALLY good, and one of my favorite games ever, I prefer the classic series in general to the X series.

level 1

I love every single Mega Man game, but I honestly feel like Classic was the most fun in my opinion.

level 1

I've got a special place for classic, as 1-6 were what I played almost every day as a child, and my cousin had an SNES so I didn't get to play X much until I got a PS1.

I love classic, but X wins the gameplay for me. I love the dashing vs sliding, and who can deny how fucking awesome the wall clinging mechanic is? I feel like more of a badass playing X compared to Mega Man. Every now and then I'll play from 1-6, 7, then X1-X6 in order and have a blast though.

level 1

I love both for different reasons. But I will admit I've always wanted classic Mega Man in an X style game.

It's mostly I like Mega Man better than X, but like the X games more. I like the classic Robot Masters more than those in X, though.

A time-traveling crossover game would be amazing.
