La Reina del Sur debuted its highly anticipated third season on Telemundo on Tuesday, October 18, with episodes set to air every weeknight at 9 p.m. ET on the channel.

Fans have been waiting three years for the latest installment, which follows the rise and fall of female drug lord Teresa Mendoza (played by Kate del Castillo).

The series is not to be confused with the English-language remake, titled Queen of the South, starring Alice Braga as Teresa Mendoza.

It's been a few years since audiences caught up with the chaotic world of Teresa Mendoza, her enemies, her allies and more. In Season 3, Teresa Mendoza will be adjusting to life outside after escaping prison for the murder of three DEA agents.

She will be moving on from the drug trafficking world with hopes to be reunited with her daughter Sofia (Isabella Sierra) but will find herself pulled into a dark underworld of crime, secret deals and alliances as a fugitive on the run.

Teresa Mendoza — Kate del Castillo

Kate del Castillo is back as former female drug lord Teresa Mendoza in La Reina del Sur Season 3.

Speaking to Forbes, del Castillo teased what fans can expect of Teresa in Season 3.

She said: "Teresa Mendoza is the warrior that we all knew she was but enhanced in so many ways. She's coming out of prison after four years of confinement. She's crazy—and very smart. What has she been doing during the four years? Working out, not only physically, but also mentally. So that's the Teresa Mendoza you have to expect. She wants to see her kid. She wants revenge—and freedom, of course. All of this is so she can go away with her kid and live freely for once in her life."

Del Castillo is also known for appearing in the Netflix series Ingobernable as Emilia Urquiza and for her role as Ava in Hunting Ava Bravo.

She also produced the Netflix documentary The Day I Met El Chapo which explored her journey in 2016 with actor Sean Penn to meet the now-incarcerated drug cartel leader Joaquin Guzman.

Del Castillo will star in the upcoming movie A Beautiful Lie, a modern Spanish-language takes on Leo Tolstoy's Anna Karenina.

Pablo Landero — Pêpê Rapazote

Pêpê Rapazote has joined the cast of La Reina del Sur as Pablo.

Portuguese soap opera actor Rapazote is well known for his role in the English remake of La Reina del Sur, known as Queen of the South, and as Nando in Shameless.

Epifanio Vargas — Humberto Zurita

Humberto Zurita returns as Epifanio Vargas in La Reina del Sur Season 3, the head of the Sinaloa Cartel.

Zurita is a Mexican actor and film producer who has appeared in numerous films and television series throughout his career.

Most recently, he starred in 100 días para enamorarnos as Ramiro Rivera and Benedictino in La querida del centauro.

Sofia — Isabella Sierra

Also returning for Season 3 of La Reina del Sur is Colombian actress Isabella Sierra.

Sierra takes on the role of Teresa's daughter Sofia. In Season 3, it has been four years since Sofia last saw her mother, following her incarceration for murder.

Outside of La Reina del Sur fame, Sierra has starred in Netflix's Narcos and Bolivar.

She also starred in the movie Holy Expectations alongside Joavany Alvarez and Carlos Barbosa.

Danilo Márquez — Emmanuel Orenday

Emmanuel Orenday is back as Danilo Márquez in La Reina del Sur Season 3, Teresa's former love interest.

Orenday is a Mexcian actor, best known for his role as Paulino Prieto, the co-lead character on the Televisa telenovela Sin tu mirada.

He is also well known for appearing in the series El Señor de los Cielos, Como dice el dicho, Esperanza del corazón, and Para volver a amar.

Sheila — Cuca Escribano

Cuca Escribano is back as Sheila, one of Teresa's main allies and closest friends.

Escribano is an award-winning Spanish actress, best known for her performance as Doña Agueda de Mesia in El secreto de Puente Viejo.

She has also appeared in the films La isla and Solo química.

Batman — Alejandro Calva

Mexican actor Alejandro Calva takes on the role of César Güemes "Batman," one of Teresa's greatest enemies with a desire for revenge.

Audiences will most likely recognize Calva from his portrayal of Octavio in Doña Flor y sus dos maridos.

Susana Guzmán — Sofia Lama

Sofia Lama plays the role of Susana Guzmán, the first lady's assistant in La Reina del Sur Season 3.

Lama is well known for her role as Alicia Gonzalez in Eva Luna and Aurora in 100 Dias Para Enamorarnos.

She also starred in Queen of the South on the USA Network. She played the role of Emilia in Season 4.

Nacho Duarte — Matias Novoa

Chilean-Mexican actor Matias Novoa has joined the cast of La Reina del Sur Season 3 as Nacho Duarte, a renowned journalist who has uncovered numerous political scandals through his work.

Novoa has starred in numerous telenovelas throughout his career including El Señor de los Cielos and Enemigo íntimo.

Most recently, he starred in La herencia as Juan and as Alejandro in Cabo.
