I wonder how will this would suite my needs to turn my old z390 asus motherboard into a mining rig. Works great for low a cost CPU

Everyone knows that Intel's Pentium Gold and Celeron chips are just rebinned variants of their more expensive products. In other words, this is just a Coffee Lake Core i3/i5/i7 with bad cores and cache sized down to a Dual Core CPU with hyper threading.

In other words, don't expect this to be on par with any of their other offerings of the same generation. That being said, I'll be the first to admit that underlying microarchitecture is the same as their other chips so you'll see solid performance under moderate workloads. It wont be top tier but it will do the job.

How do I use this CPU? In an ESXi host, and it does quite well! I'm running four to five virtual machines and a time and it has no problem staying responsive and cool.

Well this thing is soooo slow it will take you back to those days again. And there is no overclocking the CPU. I did overclock my memory some but that only barely helped.

I could only suggest this CPU for a PC that is going to act as a device and is not a daily driver. It would probably be ok for a htpc, a mining rig, or a data collector for sensors or security video. Otherwise there are much better choices out there. Break the piggie bank and get a low end I3 or I5 instead.

Definitely looked used, did not come in an intel box, just the cpu case. Worked just fine and not worried about the box or stock intel cooler anyway.

Building up a modern computer, and purchased this G5400 to test out my new Z390 motherboard.
Works great with Windows-10 and Office-2013, both 64bit.
It gave a ChrisPcWEI of 8.7, 8.7, 5,3, 9,9, & 5.9
Disappointed that the Intel HD-610 graphics was only a 5.3
Will move this CPU to a non-gaming PC when I get a I5 or I7 CPU.

Have had this for about a month now, it was part of my first PC build and it is performing a lot better than I expected for a 2 core processor.

My graphics card is a gtx 1030 which was around 100$ and I can play overwatch/fortnite on high settings with 60 fps.
Games like league of legends and wow get 100+ fps however black ops 4 is only good on medium settings with low texture resolution, but that's most likely due to my cheap graphics card.

One of the best CPUs on the market as of this writing.

A good product. It won’t win any awards for speed but is a good middle tier processor for general use and light to moderate gaming.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cheap CPU for testing - just don't stress it

Bought as the cheapest CPU of this generation for testing and fault finding that I could find on Amazon. At this price, worth risking instead of using something more expenive when trying to diagnose issues.

Limited performance, so wouldn't use in a real system unless it was for very light work. Would probably recommend using a Ryzen APU instead though in these situations.

Great for the price just don't expect miracles. Add this to a dated PC with an SSD for improved performance. Includes onboard graphics. Recommended.
