Fire Emblem Three Houses XP farm

After playing the game for a while I've figured out a quick and easy way to grind skill levels on any unit. Here's what you need:

  1. Professor Level C. You need to have at least one adjutant spot open for your desired unit.

  2. One high defense unit. Whether it's Raphael or Dedue you'll need at least one unit with high def. You'll probably need around 17-25 def in the earlier parts of the game and then 30 and above if you're at the later stages.

  3. Rusted weapons. So that your tank doesn't kill the enemy units used for skill farming.

Bonus: Knowledge orbs. Not required, but definitely helpful.

That's it. You'll probably need to progress a fair amount to get the professor level and the defense required, but it shouldn't take very long.

Steps to follow:

  1. Battle scenario. On a free day, choose a battle scenario with a recommended level far below your current average level. The ideal scenario will also be one with lots of forests and no magic units.

  2. Unit selection. De-select all units except your tank unit. If you're worried about failing you can also bring in one healer with physic and one high damage, high mobility unit.

  3. Adjutant. Set the unit you want to skill farm as your tank's adjutant.

  4. Equipment. Equip your tank with a rusted weapon, healing items, and a knowledge orb if you have one. Equip your adjutant with a weapon and class to farm on. You may also equip them with a knowledge orb if you have one.

  5. Battle. If you're able, sit your tank in a forested area on all sides so it'll be harder for enemies to hit you and get hit back. If you brought other units, keep them as far from your tank as possible. Have them only take out units not targetting your tank.

Ideally your tank should be dealing little damage and missing most of their attacks. The longer the enemy units live, the more skill and class exp you'll be able to farm.

6. Profit. If your tank's defense is high enough, enemies will do 0 damage but you'll still get skill and class experience for both your tank and your adjutant. The more enemies attacking your tank the more skill and class exp you'll receive per turn.

Warning: there is a 99 turn limit, so make sure to defeat all enemy units before then or you'll automatically game over.

I've gotten S+ ranks in skills with several units using this method. Hope it helps, and let me know if you have any questions.

Edit: You should also turn off combat animation and set skip actions to on to make the process faster.

Is there any particular map/method to max out units EXP before going deep into the game? I still have 5 units stuck at level 3 while the rest at nearly 10. The thing with weak units is I can't send them anywhere to get experience because they got killed so fast.

PS: also where can we buy those magic book? My healer used up his and I don't find new books in armory.

Have your stronger units weaken enemies without one-shotting them, and then have your lower levels come in for the final hit. Boom, EXP.

You don't buy magic in this game. It replenishes per battle. It's tied to your Reason/Faith skill now rather than treated like an item like in previous games.

Okita for life.

A few of my units are too weak to really kill anyone. Is there a way to just farm XP for your guys or is that not possible in this game?

You can farm in normal difficulty.
Just replay free encounters.

I did not get that far yet. I am guessing I will eventually get to a point where I can farm one battle over and over until I decide to move on?

on hard you have a limited amount of battles you can do in the weekend. if your choosen lord has mastered the lord class they can use subdue to setup an easy kill for whoever is underlvld.

In normal mode some battles can be repeated infinitely. Have your stronger units damage but not kill the enemy, then let the weaker units finish them off.

Use Divine Pulse after you see which unit got a good level up (4 stats or more) and which ones got crap (1-3 stats or none) to rewind back and leave them out of the fighting. Level ups are determined at the start of battle so you can't reroll with Divine Pulse. It's good to note that 3-stats level-ups can be worth keeping if they are favorable stats like Str, Dex and Spd for a Swordmaster for example.

Can you make Byleth any class?

Although just about any class can work with male Byleth, there are some that do a much better job of utilizing his innate abilities than others. Given his proficiency with a sword, magic focused classes aren't always ideal at the beginning of the game, nor are classes that have him wielding lances or axes.
