Country music star Chase Rice‘s music video for “Drinkin’ Beer. Talkin’ God. Amen.” featuring Florida Georgia Line has debuted! Filmed at an old tobacco barn on Rice’s Nashville property with award-winning director TK McKamy, the video illustrates the simple pleasures celebrated in the song’s lyrics among longtime friends.

Written by Rice together with Hunter Phelps, Cale Dodds, and Corey Crowder, the song’s catchy lyrics celebrate the power of slowing down to enjoy meaningful conversation, which has become even more relevant over the past year.

“We actually wrote this song before the pandemic, which is crazy because it’s almost like God was intervening in the song just to say, ‘Hey y’all, get ready. You’re gonna have a lot of time to sit around a fire, drink some beer and hang out with me,’” shared Rice upon the song’s release earlier this year. “It’s a special song in that way because it really is a celebration of what 2020 became for us and a lot of other people — slowing down to enjoy these moments with our loved ones and having deeper, more meaningful conversations with each other.”

Produced by Florida Georgia Line, Rice, and Crowder, the collaboration was a long time coming for Rice and FGL’s Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard who first worked together more than 10 years ago as eager songwriters new to Music City.

The best thing I can say about this is that it’s not quite as obnoxious as I expected. Unfortunately, it’s still obnoxious.

Chase Rice seemed to have a breakthrough with his (mediocre) #1 hit “Eyes On You,” but his career has been on a steep downhill slope since then. Not only was he unable to replicate his success with his awful 2019 follow-up “Lonely If You Are” (the song needed fourteen months just to peak at #12 on Billboard’s airplay chart), but his callous ignorance on the coronavirus pandemic has put him on the wrong side of the news cycle several times, such as with an ill-advised jam-packed concert in May and his recent inexplicable, inexcusable, and idiotic attempt to use a joke about having COVID-19 as a way to promote his latest single “Drinkin’ Beer. Talkin’ God. Amen” is a cookie-cutter snoozefest with zero creativity or inspiration, and is the sort of song that probably should have been left on the cutting room floor (and yet it still represents a slight upgrade the atrocious “Lonely If You Are”). The writing is hollow, the vocals are unconvincing, and the production only makes a token attempt to stand out from the crowd. It’s a blatant attempt by Chase Rice to leech off of Florida Georgia Line’s popularity in a desperate attempt to stay relevant, but any success it achieves will be in spite of its lead artist rather than because of it. This doesn’t even rise to the level of radio filler, and the sooner we kick both it and Rice out of the genre, the better.

Chase Rice has surprised his fans by releasing new track Drinkin’ Beer. Talkin’ God. Amen‘ featuring Florida Georgia Line. You can listen to the song here.
Rice has been abandoning the traditional release schedule in an attempt to be more active musically, releasing his most recent album in two different parts and singles as and when he pleases.
Speaking about the track, Rice opened up on the meaning of the track, while FGL said it has been a dream of theirs to hit the radio with their close friend.
“We actually wrote this song before the pandemic, which is crazy because it’s almost like God was intervening in the song just to say, ‘Hey y’all, get ready. You’re gonna have a lot of time to sit around a fire, drink some beer and hang out with me,’” Rice said. “It’s a special song in that way because it really is a celebration of what 2020 became for us and a lot of other people – slowing down to enjoy these moments with our loved ones and having deeper, more meaningful conversations with each other.”
“We are so excited to be on this jam with our boy Chase,” Florida Georgia Line added. “We’ve dreamed of being on the radio together ever since we were roommates 10 years ago.
“This song is the perfect one for us, as we often find ourselves drinking beer and talking God when we get together. We hope this brings lots of good times and great conversations. Cheers to making music with friends!”
Prior to lockdown, Chase Rice toured the UK and included a date at the O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London.
