Did Queer as Folk get Cancelled?

Queer as Folk's latest US reboot has sadly been cancelled.

The queer-themed drama began as a groundbreaking Channel 4 series in 1999 from the mind of It's A Sin creator Russell T Davies. In 2022, it was revived as a streaming series for Peacock, that focuses on the aftermath of a nightclub shooting and featuring greater representation of the LGBTQ+ community.

Despite, the excitement about the franchise being reborn, and a huge twist in the season one finale, Queer as Folk has not been renewed for a second season.

Showrunner Stephen Dunn has shared his 'disappointment' about the news, and said it was a "rare gift" to make a show that was so "fearless and unapologetic."

In a statement posted to his Instagram, Dunn wrote: "It’s a rare gift in these times, and in this country, to be able to make a show as fearless and unapologetic as Queer as Folk.

"This experience changed our lives forever and we’re so grateful to have found this incredible new family. But today we received the disappointing news that we’re not getting a second season.

"We know how much it’s meant to the fans and while we’re heartbroken we won’t get to make more episodes, we wanna thank everyone for watching and falling in love with Brodie, Mingus, Ruthie, Noah, Shar, Julian, Daddius, Bussey, Marvin, Judy and Brenda.

He added: "We’re so grateful for the chance to honor our community and are so proud of this show." Before, he signed the post with the hashtag "#QueerAsFamily."

Fellow executive producer Jaclyn Moore commented, "Love this and the show we all made", while guest star Olli Haaskivi said: "Proud to have been a small part of your amazing world. Thank you for all of your extraordinary, special work."

"So proud of this show and what we created," added star Devin Way, while Kim Catrall added: "I am so lucky & proud to be asked to join you, Stephen. A joy to be part of our #QueerAsFolk family. XO"

While it is sad that the show isn't continuing, at least it ended on a high moment.
