Queer Eye where are they now season 1

Striking while the iron is hot, the rebooted Queer Eye returns this month (March 15) for its third full season in just over a year.

But before we meet the next line-up of heroes willing to have their lives transformed by the Fab five, here’s a look at how all 16 past participants have fared since discovering the joys of avocados, pomade and French tucks.

Tom (Season 1, episode 1)

Tom Jackson, Queer Eye season 1

Netflix

Forget Harry and Meghan. For many Queer Eye viewers, the biggest wedding of 2018 was the one involving Tom Jackson and Abby Parr.

Tom, a burly, hirsute grandfather who claimed that "you can’t fix ugly," made an unlikely first contestant for the rebooted makeover show. But proving that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, Tom fully embraced everything that Jonathan, Tan and co. threw at him.

And the Queer Eye team’s meddling paid dividends. Not only is Tom now the proud owner of a fully-conditioned beard, he’s also a newly-married man.

Yes, ex-wife Abby was so impressed with the new and improved Tom that last May she agreed to walk down the aisle with him for a second time at an intimate ceremony in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

Neal (Season 1, episode 2)

Neal Reddy, Queer Eye season 1

Netflix

Atlanta-based app developer Neal Reddy admits he took some persuading to sign up for the show, fearing that it would portray him in a negative light.

But the 29-year-old has since revealed that his life has improved ten-fold since allowing the team to work their magic.

In June last year he told Radio Times that he dresses much better, makes much more effort to keep his bachelor pad tidy and has formed much stronger connections with his friends.

The once camera-shy Neal is also now something of an Instagram selfie king and has also continued to pursue his stand-up ambitions, performing at New York’s The Stand just last month.

Cory (Season 1, episode 3)

Cory Waldrop, Queer Eye season 1

Netflix

Karamo admits that he initially struggled to even speak to Cory Waldrop, the Donald Trump-supporting cop at the centre of Queer Eye’s third episode.

But following their thought-provoking tête-à-tête about the US police force’s problem with racism, the pair have become unlikely buddies, with Karamo recently telling students at a Duke University lecture that Cory is now focusing more of his efforts on community activism.

On a lighter note, the NASCAR obsessive also appears to have maintained his new self-care regime.

AJ (Season 1, episode 4)

AJ Brown, Queer Eye season 1

Netflix

Tom isn’t the only Queer Eye participant to have said ‘I do’ since appearing on the show.

AJ Brown, who made most viewers bawl like a baby during his emotional coming out to his stepmother in episode four, tied the knot with long-term boyfriend Andre in June last year.

AJ had largely kept their relationship under wraps before gracing Queer Eye but, thanks to the guidance and wisdom of the gang, is now embracing life after coming out as gay to his stepmom on the show.

Bobby (Season 1, episode 5)

Bobby Camp, Queer Eye season 1

Netflix

You couldn’t blame Mark Ruffalo lookalike Bobby Camp for letting things go a little, what with six kids, two jobs and various church duties to take care of.

Judging by his Instagram feed, the devout Christian is continuing with the style tips that helped to make him look at least a decade younger.

However, his unsung hero namesake Bobby’s tireless efforts on the family home were all for nothing – shortly after filming, the Camps all moved to a completely different property.

Remington (Season 1, episode 6)

Remington Porter, Queer Eye season 1

Netflix

Thankfully, Bobby’s masterful work at transforming the 1970s time warp that featured in the sixth episode didn’t go to waste.

Indeed, 27-year-old Remington Porter has been enjoying both his new bachelor pad and life in general since appearing on the show.

He spent the Christmas period travelling around Asia and thanks to his new-found fame also wangled an invite to a premiere of Black Panther.

Joe (Season 1, episode 7)

Joe Gallois, Queer Eye season 1

Netflix

Like Neal, Joe is also continuing to hit the stand-up comedy circuit, and last year opened for Jim Tews (Louie, Last Comic Standing) at the Relapse Theatre in Atlanta.

The stay-at-home stand-up will also join several of the first and second series’ participants at the same venue for a fundraising event the day after the third series premieres.

However, Karamo’s attempts to give him a strong online presence haven’t been fully appreciated. The swanky official website that was created especially for him was taken down by Joe pretty much as soon as it went up.

Jeremy (Season 1, episode 8)

Jeremy Homes, Queer Eye season 1

Netflix

The first series’ final contestant has enjoyed a significant career development since appearing on the show – he’s been promoted to Covington Fire Department’s Chief Fire Officer.

Jeremy, who chose his workplace to receive the makeover treatment rather than his home, has also recently penned an article for Firehouse magazine about the difference between a job and a calling.

The prankster, who alongside wife Bonnie adopted five biological siblings, has also found the time to train for a 5k race with his scene-stealing colleague Micah, aka Superman.

Tammye (Season 2, episode 1)

Tammy Hicks, Queer Eye season 2

Netflix

Few participants have been as appreciative of their Queer Eye experience as the series’ first ever female hero, Mama Tammye.

The breast cancer survivor told them. magazine that she’s living her best life since appearing on the show, and that both her son Myles and her remote hometown of Gay have hugely benefited too.

Indeed, the local church community centre that Bobby helped to restore to its former glories has become the hub of the neighbourhood, and was the venue for a Queer Eye get-together with several other candidates last September.

Myles has since landed an apprenticeship at a local funeral home and plans to open his own parlour to help those affected by AIDS in the future, while he and his mother have also enjoyed a cruise to Honduras.

William (Season 2, episode 2)

William Mahnken, Queer Eye season 2

Netflix

The most romantic gesture ever committed to screen or the kind of uncomfortable display of public affection that would leave you running for the hills?

Whatever your feelings on William’s proposal at an outdoor movie showing, it’s still heartwarming to learn that he and his long-time girlfriend are now a happily married couple.

Indeed, the Walmart employee, who famously cited Frasier Crane as his all-time style icon, walked down the aisle with Shannan just a week after his episode premiered. A month later the pair also went on a double date with another newlywed Queer Eye couple, Tom and Abby.

William hasn’t given up his dream of making it in Hollywood either, and has since worked on a short film called Skinwalkers and written his very own screenplay titled Big Blue.

Leo (Season 2, episode 3)

Leo Loria Rico, Queer Eye season 2

Netflix

Bartender Leo appears to have kept a low profile since the Fab Five gave him the confidence to hang out with other fathers at a parent/teacher meet-up.

However, his wife Bethany, who charmingly described him as a "ginormous slob" pre-makeover, does have an Instagram account which shows that Leo has been spending plenty of quality time with his adorable young family.

Jason (Season 2, episode 4)

Jason Vogelsang, Queer Eye season 2

Netflix

We’re still not sure as to why handyman Jason wanted to uproot his entire life just to be closer to a festival that only takes place seven days each year.

But luckily his nearest and dearest, with a little help from the Queer Eye team, managed to persuade him to stay in his Atlanta hometown and ultimately turn his enduring platonic friendship with Beth into a romantic one.

Thankfully the pair are still an item and even found the time to visit Jason’s beloved Burning Man Festival last August.

Skyler (Season 2, episode 5)

Skyler, Queer Eye season 2

Netflix

Queer Eye’s first trans hero Skyler has regularly made the headlines since appearing on the show.

The catering manager first set up a crowdfunding page to donate to LGBTQ+ causes. "Of the $8,200, I asked that $1,600 be donated to three different organisations, totalling the amount of $4,800, and the remainder of the $3,400 to be divided between two of my friends top surgery campaigns," Skyler told PinkNews.

"I want to give back what was given to me and this was the only notion that felt right to me and made me feel okay about accepting donations for myself," Skyler added.

"I hope those that donated to my initial campaign for my top surgery feel proud knowing their donations that helped me are being returned to the community to do even more good for many people in need."

Skyler is also suing his employer, after discovering that his medical insurance excluded trans-related healthcare. The 30-year-old hopes that by taking legal action, other trans employees won’t suffer from the same exclusion rule.

Arian (Season 2, episode 6)

Arian Samiei, Queer Eye season 2

Netflix

Queer Eye’s very own Pinocchio has finally graduated from Georgia State University for good, having previously lied to his family about doing so.

As well as completing his studies, 24-year-old Arian has also landed an analyst position at an Atlanta consultancy firm, suggesting that his days of slobbing on the sofa and playing video games all day are now firmly over.

Sean (Season 2, episode 7)

Sean Van Meter, Queer Eye season 2

Netflix

Having spent most of his childhood surrounded by adults decades older than him, Queer Eye’s youngest candidate is now hanging around people his own age.

Indeed, 19-year-old Sean is currently in his second year at Piedmont College and apparently showing little signs of the awkwardness displayed during his initial meetings with the Fab Five.

As well as attending various college parties and racking up more than 13,000 Instagram followers, the teenage pianist also released a new single – 'Fallin’ In Love Every Day' – earlier this year.

Ted (Season 2, episode 8)

Ted Terry, Queer Eye season 2

Netflix

The good news about season two’s final contestant Ted is that he’s continued to maintain both his grooming and grilled peach salad game.

The even better news is that, since filming his episode, he’s been re-elected as Mayor of Clarkston for another four years. He also plans to help partner Andrea replace him when his second term ends in 2021.

Queer Eye season 3 arrives on Netflix on March 15. Queer Eye seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream on Netflix now.
