Xbox one black screen after update Reddit

Hello folks, as the title states I am having the black screen of death issue. I have scoured every corner of reddit, but nothing seems to work. I will list everything I have tried first.

1. Simple reset (hold xbox button for 10 seconds, wait a minute, turn it back on) = black screen

2. Hard reset: unplug everything, hold sync + eject, turn on and wait for 2nd chime. 2nd chime never comes and thus the Xbox stays on black screen. (Xbox was stuck on green loading screen about a month ago and that fixed it, but not this time)

3. tried 17 different HDMIs (Should I try 3 more just to make it an even number?)

4. Tried the offline update w/ USB, but I cannot get the Xbox to get to the troubleshooting screen because Sync+Eject does nothing.

What do you guys think the issue might be? My power brick is orange whenever I plug it in to the wall. When I plug it into my xbox it turns white for a second and then returns to orange. When I turn the xbox on it turns white until I turn my xbox off. Does that sounds like an issue? The green loading screen issue happened about a week after I moved my xbox from my TV to my projector. Could that be the source of the issue? I also use an external hard drive for added storage but I have been using that for over a year and didn't seem to be an issue.

This Xbox was bought in Dec 2013 so its old as hell, but I cant really afford a new xbox so I'd like to try and keep this one going without paying for a new one. Any and all help is much appreciated :)

I had that issue in the preview a month or so ago,

If there's a disc in the Xbox One console, eject it.

On the console, press and hold the Xbox button for five seconds to turn off the console. Press and hold the Xbox button and the Eject button until you hear a beep to turn on the console. You will hear one beep right away and a second beep 10 seconds later. The power light will flash on before the second beep. DO NOT LET GO until the second beep occurs.

this was pretty much what I did, then I installed my account after the factory reset to make sure and I left the preview program and never had that issue again but you can try a lower tier

EDIT: IF this does not work for you, also hold down the SYNC button. according to a few people who commented here that's what they had to do as well.

FYI this happened because of an insider build that was pushed today, if you don't want this to happen again, unenroll your system from the insider program.

Um they missed a step, its press and hold sync button(bind) + eject button and then your supposed to also press the power button for 10 - 15 seconds to get into the factory reset menu...

I have done the steps this way: hold bind and eject then hold power. Let go when you hear the beeps. A menu will come up.

Use the DPAD to go to reset this xbox. The next menu will ask you if you want to keep your games.

Fingers crossed.

Edit: and it worked. This is an OG Xbox One.

I’m glad I found this. I was essentially freaking the fuck out that my Xbox died for no reason. I’ll have to try this after work. Thanks for posting this!

This worked for me, but it's really upsetting that Microsoft is intentionally ignoring the issues with legacy devices. Not all of us can fork up $400 for a new console. This is bullshit.
