Will there be a From season 2

Invincible spoilers follow.

When Amazon's Prime Video Invincible dropped, it proved so popular that fans were demanding season two before season one had even finished. Now that's what we call dedication.

Luckily, Amazon's Prime Video was listening, and after a little bit of hard work, petitions and hashtags from the fans, the show was renewed in April 2021 for a second season... and a third!

Even before this surprise announcement, creator Robert Kirkman had already hinted that new episodes seemed likely, though it would be somewhat stressful to pull off.

Speaking with Collider about the creation of the show, the Walking Dead writer said: "The production timeline is somewhat daunting. I think that we spend a number of years developing and working on this season. As we hopefully move into season two and beyond, things will tighten.

"There's definitely a lot less designing and different things that have to happen to move into our second season. And it's entirely possible that there's already work that has been done on the second season. So I think we're in a good place to be moving forward, were this show to end up being successful."

So what will this second season of Invincible look like?

Invincible season 2 potential release date: When will it air?

Sadly, we're more than a full year after the renewal announcement, and yet seemingly no closer to knowing when the show will actually air.

As of September 2022, there has been no confirmation about when exactly the second season will turn up, though we're hopeful to hear something soon.

Amazon is playing its Invincible cards very close to its spandex covered chest. Luckily, Khary Payton (Markus Grimshaw / Black Samson), provided a key reveal with regards to season two’s progress in September 2022 (via SuperheroHype).

"We finished season two. We’re on to season three," Payton said. "But it’s so hard to say right now. There was a glut of animation studios just trying to get so much done and literally it was like, projects sitting there with a backpack full of material. They’re like, 'Anytime you’re ready.'"

"I am so glad they greenlit two and three at the same time because that means when 3 comes out, it will feel like just next season, and not like, a lifetime," Payton continued.

To be fair to Robert Kirkman, he has somewhat had his hands full with the upcoming ending of The Walking Dead which wrapped shooting at the end of March 2022.

In January, Kirkman live-tweeted through the first episode to give fans insight into how it was made, and then gave an update on where he was in the production of season two.

"I need to get back to work on season 2 (and 3)! I actually have a script due soon! Wish me luck!" he wrote. "And thanks for reading along! I love you all!"

Despite the long wait, seasons two and three have apparently been in development for quite some time.

In April 2022, a video of lead actor Steven Yeun (who plays Mark Grayson/Invincible) was released of him in the recording booth.

"With how many lines he has, his vocal cords really will need to be…" they wrote alongside it (we're guessing that sentence ends with 'invincible' for like... obvious reasons).

During a chat with TechRadar head writer, Simon Racioppa admitted: "We've been working on it for a while.

"We're working very hard on it. Basically, every day Robert [Kirkman] is working on it, I'm working on it. We're talking about it, and we are well in on the process."

He added: "We've been working on it longer than I think people are aware, but it takes a while. It's a big show."

It's obvious they're feeling the heat with the amount of questioning about the upcoming episodes. In September, the official Twitter account promoted the latest comic book, before adding: "Yes, S2 is still in the works! Thought you’d never ask."

Racioppa shared more details on season two's progress during an interview with comicbookmovie.com. Racioppa said:

"I think you're going to be very happy with it. I hope so. We want to make it as badly as everyone wants to see it. We're deep in. I wish it was already done and I wish it was finished, but it's just not. We're deep into it."

Thing is, with an animation, these things take some time (just to really ram home Racioppa's point). Though both are in development, it's not confirmed if they're producing seasons two and three at the same time to reduce release time between them, or if they'll be doing things back to back.

With this in mind, we likely won't get any news until at least 2023, at a guess.

Invincible season 2 cast: Who's in it?

invincible

Amazon Prime

Invincible's cast is – and we don't say this lightly – absolutely staaaaacked, and it's possible that it's only going to get even bigger as the show goes on.

Following that insane season-one finale, we expect to see most of the following return for Invincible season two:

• Steven Yeun as Mark Grayson / Invincible
• Sandra Oh as Debbie Grayson
• JK Simmons as Nolan Grayson / Omni-Man
• Zachary Quinto as Robot
• Ross Marquand as Rudy Connors, Robot's new real body
• Gillian Jacobs as Samantha Eve Wilkins / Atom Eve
• Jason Mantzoukas as Rex Sloan / Rex Splode
• Malese Jow as Kate Cha / Dupli-Kate
• Grey Griffin as Shrinking Rae
• Khary Payton as Black Samson
• Walton Goggins as Cecil Stedman
• Seth Rogen as Allen the Alien
• Mahershala Ali as Titan
• Kevin Michael Richardson as The Mauler Twins
• Andrew Rannells as William Clockwell
• Zazie Beetz as Amber Bennett

"I can't wait to make more," Steven stated, and neither can the fans who flocked to the comment section in droves when the footage of him in the recording studio dropped.

"We are impatiently waiting," said one fan. Ain't that the truth.

We wouldn't be surprised if others had already been back in the booth too, as Nolan Grayson/Omni-Man actor JK Simmons stated in March the cast were due to start voice recordings very soon (as reported by DiscussingFilm).

"I think I'm allowed to say that we're going back to work very soon in the recording booth," Simmons teased. "Now, the lag between us doing our first recordings and the animation being completed is obviously many months and probably more than a year, I would guess.

"But, yes, Invincible is getting to work in earnest and season two is imminent, I will say. There's a nice vague term."

Mark Hamill as Art Rosenbaum could also make a reappearance, with Kirkman saying: "Oh, man... the recording sessions with @HamillHimself were EPIC. Will Bulletproof appear in Season 2? We'll just have to wait and see!"

... Tease.

Omni-Man did fly to a different galaxy after Mark learned his secret, but Nolan will definitely return still in season two. His storyline is integral to this show and imagining future episodes without him is like imagining his face without that glorious moustache. It's impossible.

Of course, the series has featured several cameos from the cast of The Walking Dead with season one alone seeing appearances fromalumni Lauren Cohan, Ross Marquand, Sonequa Martin-Green, Khary Payton, Michael Cudlitz, Lennie James and Chad Coleman all reunited with Invincible lead Yeun.

But does that mean that season two could feature more Deadites?

"I hesitate to name names, just because I would eventually like to bring everyone," Kirkman said (via ComicBook). "I can't think of an actor on The Walking Dead I wouldn't want to work with again. It's an amazing group of actors. Andrew Lincoln, Danai Gurira, Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Jeffrey Dean Morgan... there's not really anyone I wouldn't want to bring in."

Invincible season 2 plot: What will happen?

      invincible

      Amazon Prime VideoYouTube

Based on everything that happened in that gruesome finale, Mark's world has been forever changed. His father, Omni-Man, has destroyed their family (along with half of Chicago). And although he's gone, for now, Nolan will eventually return with the full might of the Viltrumite race, hellbent on claiming Earth as part of their alien empire.

In the finale, Cecil asks Mark to take his father's place as Earth's champion, and although he's reluctant at first, that will soon change. Meanwhile, he also plans to finish high school, but that might be tricky given all of the threats soon coming his way.

On top of the Viltrumite invasion, a number of Invincible's other enemies are set to return as well. In the final moments of season one, we see Titan make new allies, pink aliens take over Mars and that white tiger guy is still knocking about too. Cecil also plays with fire by enlisting that mad scientist to create new cyborg henchmen, presumably to stop Nolan upon his return.

Moving forward, Mark's relationship with Amber seems to be strong once again, although it's hard to say how long that will last. Let's just hope William is soon reunited with his lover too because things didn't go so well for him and Rick in season one.

For more plot clues, pay close attention to season one's final montage.

"With the montage, I really wanted to remind the audience of the many threads we had and wanted to reveal to them that anything and everything that happened in season one matters," Kirkman told AV Club. "Even the small details will come into play in a big way in the future. I wanted to work in way more of those pops but it was becoming ridiculous.

"It also gives the sense that Nolan is off the table for now so Mark doesn't have a mentor anymore but all the problems are still there. Now we'll have to see a very different Invincible moving forward who has to figure things out on his own.

"It sets the stage for season two and beyond to be a different story, which is where you want to be with a show like this one. You want every season to have a different kind of flavour and feel and exploration of the main character."

Just maybe don't look too closely at the comics for guidance. Kirkman's mission is to surprise those fans, too.

"I'm always acutely aware of the fact that one of the appeals of this comic is how frequently unexpected things happen. I want to try and maintain that as much as I can for the audience that has read the comic and is now watching the show. By changing and rearranging things, even if you have read the comics, you still get the sense of, 'Oh, I didn't expect this already' or 'Oh, I thought this character would be like this or do this but isn't.' It brings a little of that excitement from the comics into the show."

Kirkman has teased season two's main villain, and there's an area in which the show could depart from the comics in a major way (via Screenrant).

"I will say we've teased Angstrom Levy coming in season two, so that is something to get really excited about. There's a lot of stuff that comes from that character, and I guess you could kind of get a sense from watching season one roughly how we're going to be adapting those things and how they would make up season two."

"So that's some fun experiments you can do on your own to try and figure out exactly how season two's gonna go... You'll be wrong!”

One potential unexpected option on the table for Kirkman is an exploration of Levy's origins. Despite the fact Levy's the secondary antagonist in the comics, fans don't know much about his background. Unlike, say, Spider-Man, where the creation of characters' powers are a key part of their development, Invincible fans have never been told how this key nemesis got his main powers (which include dimensional travel, super strength, enhanced durability, and a genius level intellect).

However, we do know how he developed his hatred for Invincible. Levy blames Grayson for an explosion that hideously mutated him beyond repair. Levy finds out who Invincible is by travelling to different dimensions where his secret identity is public knowledge.

Of course, Levy's powers will allow the show to explore a comic-book trope that's currently extremely popular across the board in the major franchises, whether that's Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness(2022), The Flash(2022) or Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse – Part One (2022).

If Invincible season two really does land in 2022, it will be the year of the multiverse, with Levy's dimension-hopping skills so powerful they lead to a crossover with Spider-Man in the comics. While we doubt that'll happen on the Amazon show, opening up portals to other universes will provide a rich area for the show's writer to explore, that ties into a key cultural trend.

Invincible season 2 trailer: When can we watch it?

Sorry guys, but if Robert Kirkman is still writing, we're probably not going to see any footage or a trailer for a while yet.

New footage of season two probably won't arrive until later in 2022, but maybe it wouldn't hurt to ask Damien Darkblood to investigate Amazon HQ in the meantime.

At least you have a whole heap of comics to keep you occupied while you wait.

We'll keep you updated on any progress when we hear of it!

Invincible is now available to watch on Amazon Prime Video. The Walking Dead airs on AMC in the US and FOX in the UK. UK viewers can also catch up on the show via NOW.

Is season 2 of them coming out?

There wasn't even an official renewal since the show had been picked up for two seasons from the start. Wouldn't it have been nice to have a surprise release during the scariest month of the year? Sadly, that's not happening.

How many series are there of from?

      From (TV series).

Is there a season 2 of In from the cold?

It sounds like that might be worth your time too, because there's already a plan for where In From the Cold could go next: "We already know where season two and even season three would go," says Glass. "There's a big story to tell here, and we hope we get a chance to keep telling that story."

Is there going to be a back to 15 season 2?

A show which strikes the right chord in our heart by drawing a parallel between what would happen if your present self is stuck in your 15 year old self, Back to 15 Season 2 is now renewed.
