Why can I not screenshot my bank account?

Firstly, we promise this isn't us being difficult. There are very strict regulations that require us to collect a bank statement from you if we can't verify you through our automated process.

We really don't need to see your account balances or transactions, so if you don't want to share them, you can crop out everything but:

  • Your name, address and bank account number

  • Your bank's name and logo

  • The statement date

From your desktop or laptop:

  1. Sign in to internet banking - make sure it's your own bank account (not a business or trust account).

  2. Every bank does things slightly differently, but you should be able to find a PDF statement for the bank account you'll deposit money from. If not, get in touch and we'll walk you through it (and update this FAQ).

  3. Open the statement.

  4. Then you've got two options, screenshot or download the statement. It's up to you if you want to crop out your balance and transactions, we don't need to see them.

  5. Upload the screenshot/PDF to Hatch.

From email (on your mobile or desktop):

  1. Find an email from your bank with a statement attached.

  2. Open the statement PDF attachment.

  3. Then you can screenshot or download it (downloading can be a bit trickier on iPhones).  It's up to you if you want to crop out your balance and transactions, we don't need to see them.

  4. Upload the screenshot/PDF to Hatch.

From your mobile banking app:

Unfortunately, not all banks offer statements on their mobile banking apps. If not, you can screenshot a bank statement that's been emailed to you, or, as a last resort, you'll have to jump over to a desktop and finish verification.

  1. Open your banking app - make sure you're looking at your own bank account (not a business or trust account).

  2. Find a bank statement and open it - they can be a little hidden (for example, ANZ has them under 'documents').

  3. Take a screenshot. It's up to you if you want to crop out your balance and transactions, we don't need to see them.

I am a recent Android convert. Part of my job is taking screenshots on different devices. After using an iPhone for the past 10 years, I was surprised to find screenshot restrictions on some Android apps. I never encountered…

We all need to take screenshots at some point in our day-to-day lives as these are the best way to save things on our phones. We all know various ways to take screenshots on Android phones, but sometimes some apps won’t let you take screenshots for some reason in such a case it is impossible to save things. So, here I am going to tell you how you can bypass that restriction and take a screenshot if the app doesn’t allow it.

There are two or three ways but one of them requires a root. So we are telling only those ways that do not require rooting your Android phone. Read on to know more.

    Using Google Assistant

    1. Open Google Assistant and then tap the Explore icon in the bottom right.

    2. Now, tap on your profile picture in the top right corner, and scroll down until General.

    3. Choose Use screen context and then enable the toggle for Use screenshot.

Now you can take a screenshot on that app

    1. Open the app that doesn’t allow screenshots.

    2. Now, tap and hold the Home button or swipe up from the lower left or right corner to launch Google Assistant.

    3. Tap on What’s on my screen? and if it does not display you can type it or say it.

    4. After that, tap the Share screenshot button.

That’s it, the screenshot will be captured and you can share it with other apps. however, the result from this method is either blacked out or totally distorted. So we move to the next trick.

    Using Scrcpy Tool

You can use some PC software that can record your phone’s screen. Here I am going to use Scrcpy which can mirror and record your Android device’s screen and the best part is that you don’t even need root access. However, this method does not work on streaming apps.

First of all, you can get the software for Linux, macOS, and Windows from GitHub.

    1. Now, set up ADB on your PC and connect your Android phone. Run adb command to check if your PC recognizes your device.

    2. After that, open the Scrcpy ZIP file on your computer at any location.

    3. Open the extracted scrcpy folder and double-click on scrcpy.exe file.

    4. It will start mirroring your Android screen on your PC.

    5. Now, open that app on your phone and take a screenshot of the app on your Windows PC using Shift Ctrl S and on macOS or Linux, you can use built-in shortcuts.

Take screenshots of Google Chrome’s Incognito Tab

If you use Incognito mode a lot on your phone then here is a simple trick to take screenshots of the incognito tabs in Google Chrome

    1. Open Google chrome and type “chrome://flags” and press Enter.

    2. Search for “Incognito” and you will see some results.

    3. Enable the “Incognito screenshot” feature and relaunch Chrome.

    4. Now, you can take screenshots of incognito tabs using the same shortcut that you always use.

So this is how you can take a screenshot of the app using the screen recording tool on your PC. These methods are foolproof but don’t work with all apps. So you will have to use the rooting method if you want to take screenshots on all apps.

These were the ways to take screenshots on apps that don’t allow them. Tell us in the comments if you were able to use any of these methods. For more such tips, stay tuned!

    FAQ

    Q. Why some apps don’t allow us to take screenshots?

    A. Apps like banking apps or any wallet app won’t let you take screenshots because it contains sensitive information about you or your account. Sharing these screenshots will be dangerous for your account, that’s why developers disable the users from taking screenshots in the first place.

    Q. Is it Wrong to take screenshots using these tricks?

    A. As the feature is there to save you from potential threats you can cause by sharing sensitive information. It is not wrong as long as you mask the sensitive information on those screenshots.

    Q. None of these tricks worked on my phone, should I root my phone?

    A. We never recommend anyone to root their Android phone since it makes your device more vulnerable to viruses and malware that can steal your private data. If you still want to do that, no problem it is your device and you can go ahead and root your phone.
