Well, I’m not seeing too many solid answers here. Each year your MB will require a maintenance service. For a dealership (the most expensive option) to perform this it will be $200-$400 for the smaller A service, the next (alternating) year will be your B service which will be $300-$450. These prices are my experience with my E class and an older SLK. I’ve seen some folks here being quoted over $1000 for a B service on some SUVs but for the cars in mention I suspect my numbers are pretty close. An independent MB specialist will be a little less, and you can of course go to a “European” mechanic or whatever shop you want (or do it yourself) but the dealership or MB specialist will know how else to better ID model specific issues, what needs tending to, and what can slide. Brakes will be double what you’d pay for a non MB (don’t need them too often) but tires, if you’re going to keep the car performing like it was new, will preferably be a higher performance tire which wears out faster than some “good cause it’s rated for 50,000 miles” tire. I get 10k-14k miles on a set of summer Michelin Pilot Sport 4S on my 4MATIC E class, but I drive like a schmuckalufagus because it’s fun. But that costs me $225 per tire one a year.

If something breaks, it’s not going to be cheap. It if you fix it, the car will last a long time. Feed it good synthetic oil, change it on schedule, use premium gas, and repair it as needed and it will last a long time.

Consider spending half your budget on a clean W126 ( 300SDL 560SEL 300SE Etc) W123 (240D 300D Etc) or W124 (300D 300E - A more modern take on the W123).

There are some many factors to take into considering when purchasing a used Mercedes-Benz.

Pedigree and service records should be the biggest factor when considering any used Mercedes. There's a reason Mercedes has stringent maintenance procedures. If a used Mercedes has up to date service records, you can take confidence the rest of the vehicle is straight, owners who service their cars keep the entire vehicle on par.

Regardless of records, be sure to get a 3rd party (ideally an independent mechanic specializing in only Mercedes) to inspect and review the car over for potential problems. Let me know where you live and I may be able to refer you.

Depending on the year and model you will spend around 2-4k a year in maintenance. These are luxury cars equipped with modern technology from the era that need to be maintained or repaired.

Mentioned already, be cautious of the models from '93-'99.

In addition to an outstanding build quality, there are several communities of Mercedes enthusiast including MBCA (Mercedes-Benz Club of America) Peachparts.com (Mostly older Mercedes) and MBworld.org (Mostly newer Mercedes.) All of which have people who know their cars like the back of their hands.

They're great cars that will last you a life time if you buy and maintain them right.

Good luck and be patient.

They seem so cheap! I see them for 12k. I heard maintenance is crazy expensive but with the cost so seemingly low I don't think I'd mind the other fees. The ones I'm looking at are ~90k mileage accident free. Something seems off with them being that cheap. I guess they are a value class but it feels like a steal. Insurance seems reasonable for me too. Is the maintenance cost really that high? Is there another reason? Was looking at the e class coup too for 13k under 100k mileage. What am I missing these seem like fairly modern luxury cars to me.

Why are used Mercedes so cheap Reddit

I was looking at rear wheel drive cars and generally 2002-2008 c230's keep showing up, both N/A examples and supercharged ones with lowish miles.

Is there anything wrong with these cars specifically? It seems that no other Mercedes cars have dropped this low in price and they all seem perfectly fine. It just has me wondering why they're so cheap.

Mercedes used market is always cheap. People that get new Mercedes tend to lease them, because every couple years they want the newest expensive one. So lots of those flood the used car market. Also, the upkeep and service are very expensive, more than average for luxury cars

I was kinda figuring upkeep for them would be a little more than regular cars, but I'm finding pretty good examples of these cars all for under $5000

There is a lot of market pressure on car prices. used cars do not hold value like they used to, because manufacturers are discounting new cars right off the bat, through rebates or low interest long term financing.

It's the lowest trim of an entry-level luxury car that is, at minimum, ten years old. Really not out of the ordinary.

It's a shitty shitbox for badge whores.

All the downvotes are from C class owners who know what you said is right but they just don't want to admit it.

I literally sold my C class because the community in Mercedes is fucking cancerous. It's all just people that want to look and act like millionaires while simulation spending sub 10k on a car.

That was a dirt cheap, entry level MB that cost $25k brand new.

My Acura Integra GSR hatch I bought around then cost more than this thing.

When people buy 10 year old used Mercedes, they're looking for what was an expensive vehicle back then, which is now affordable. This was always cheap.
