Hawkins High School had its own basketball team; the team members were informally known as "The Tigers", a nickname that also applied to the school's other sports teams.[1] In 1986, the team captain was Jason Carver, with players including Patrick McKinney, Chance, Lucas Sinclair, Josh and Andy. The team were a social clique that sticked together in and outside of school hours; the group used an abandoned burger joint as a hang-out spot. After the death of Jason's girlfriend Chrissy Cunningham, Jason rallied his teammates and friends together to find the killer; the group started to search for Eddie Munson and the members of his D&D group Hellfire Club, suspecting that Eddie was Chrissy's murderer. While in hot pursuit of Eddie, Patrick McKinney met a gruesome fate at the hands of Chrissy's actual killer, a supernatural killing that Jason interpreted as a Satanic deed committed by Eddie. The group renewed their push to find Eddie and the Hellfire members; Jason even interrupted a town hall meeting, hoping to enlist the townspeople of Hawkins in their search efforts. HistoryThe team was first seen at the prep rally, hoping to succeed and advance to the tournament. The team's captain, Jason Carver, addressed the recent tragedies at Hawkins and turned them into opportunities to change and move forward in a more positive direction. The opposing team, dubbed the "Falcons," was seen purposefully pushing down a member of Jason's team during the game the next day. The player who had been thrown down was removed from the game, and Lucas took his place, making the game-winning shot. As a result, Lucas was praised, and a portion of the team celebrated by drinking and staying the night at Benny's Burgers. Jason and his friends are seen watching the news the next morning, learning about the recent murder at the Trailer Park. After learning that the murdered victim was his girlfriend, Chrissy Cunningham, Jason begins to plan the hunt for Eddie Munson, the leader of Hellfire club. While Jason and his buddies attempt to track Eddie down, Lucas foils their efforts. The team explores Reefer Rick's house after they get there in an effort to find Eddie, who they think is hiding there. Vecna kills Patrick in front of Jason and Eddie as they swim after Eddie. In the meeting hall that follows, Jason persuades the townspeople that Eddie is to blame for Patrick's death and the other murders since he is a vessel for Satan. Members

Patrick McKinney, portrayed by Myles Truitt, was a recurring character in the fourth season of Stranger Things. He was a talented and popular basketball player attending Hawkins High School when shocking events send his life spiraling out of control.[3] HistoryBackgroundPatrick was born sometime between the years of 1967-1968. He grew up in an abusive household where either both of his parents or just his father would beat him up. Between 1981-1982, Patrick began attending Hawkins High School and later joined the basketball team where he became friends with Jason Carver, Andy, and Chance. By 1986, when Lucas Sinclair joined the basketball team, Patrick formed an acquaintance with him, but they did not become close. 1986On March 21, Patrick played in the championship game for Hawkins High School and later celebrated with his friends at Benny's Burgers, which had been converted to a party place following the death of the owner. The following morning, news of the mysterious death of a teenager was broadcast on TV, which Patrick watched. Patrick's friend Andy made a joke during the broadcast, which Patrick found distasteful. Later, Patrick joined the mission of the Basketball Team to hunt down Eddie Munson, who was blamed for the murder of Chrissy, Jason's girlfriend. In the car, Patrick experienced a sudden nosebleed. When attending Chrissy's funeral, he noticed a grandfather clock appear in a corner of the room. These are both part of Vecna's curse, which Patrick had been inflicted with. Later, Patrick and Jason found Eddie trying to flee across Lover's Lake. They swam to catch him, but Patrick suddenly stopped. He fell into the water, only to levitate up. His bones snapped and his eyes gouged inwards, and his corpse fell to the group. Patrick was killed by Vecna, which caused a gate to open at the bottom Lover's Lake, the location of his death. LegacyAfter Patrick's death, Lucas tells Max Mayfield that Patrick had come to basketball practice one day with a black-eye and said that he had fell, which was a presumably a lie. Lucas told Max he knew it was something more than that and he felt guilty for turning a blind eye, just because he didn't know Patrick that well. Jason was also heartbroken by Patrick’s death, as it inspired him to take his hunt against Eddie further. He then believed Eddie had satanic powers and was a vessel for Satan and decided they had to kill him to ensure his murder spree was stopped. PersonalityPatrick seemed like a nice kid. He was friends with Jason Carver, Andy, Lucas Sinclair and the rest of the basketball team. He didn’t approve of Andy making jokes about the dead Hawkins student. Patrick was sort of an "older brother" for Lucas since they could relate on most things. When it came to his friends, he would do anything to protect them. This was shown when he and Jason hunt and chase Eddie Munson on Lover's Lake, when they thought he had murdered Chrissy Cunningham. RelationshipsPatrick and Lucas had a friendly relationship. They had friendly conversations, but never really got close to one another. Despite being friends and teammates, Patrick does not like some of Andy's attitude, such as him joking about the murder of the Hawkins student. Patrick and Jason were not only teammates but appeared to maintain a close friendship off the court as well - so much so that Patrick trusted Jason enough to follow him in pursuit of Eddie Munson for the death of Jason's girlfriend. Jason cared about Patrick and was horrified by his death, taking his body back to shore in grief. Witnessing Patrick’s death seemed to be the catalyst which caused Jason to truly believe Eddie had occult powers and had transformed his vigilante posse into an angry mob at the town meeting to catch Eddie and avenge Patrick.
