Where was to catch a thief filmed

La Croix des Gardes castle—the fantastic French setting of Alfred Hitchcock’s 1955 thriller To Catch a Thief starring Grace Kelly and Cary Grant—is a breathtaking Florentine-style château located atop a hill in Cannes overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. It was built in 1919, but English architect Alan Gore later added a neo-Palladian extension. With nearly 13,000 square feet of living space, the home boasts immense, opulent rooms with marble and herringbone wood floors, elegant trim, expansive arched windows, and sweeping verandas. The beauty of the property is even more apparent when you’re amid the magical grounds and gardens, set over 24 acres. There are manicured lawns of course, but also winter and Asian-style gardens, a glass-enclosed orangerie, crisp hedges, and a swimming pool—all set against a backdrop of the Mediterranean.

Where is the house in To Catch a Thief?

In the movie it was known as "Sanford Villa," but in real life the home is the Château de la Croix-des-Gardes (which we spotted on Hooked on Houses!) and is located in Cannes, France. For the first time in 56 years the property is on the market for more than $56 million. Think that's expensive?

What hotel was used in To Catch a Thief?

Part of the InterContinental chain, the Carlton is famous for hosting movie stars from around the world during the annual Film Festival. Famously, the hotel was a central location for the Alfred Hitchcock film To Catch a Thief starring Grace Kelly and Cary Grant.

Is To Catch a Thief filmed in Monaco?

The To Catch a Thief filming locations span Nice, Cannes, Monaco and lots of cute villages in between. It's a fantastic, gorgeous and gripping thriller, one of Hitchcock's best.

Where is the restaurant in To Catch a Thief?

Several Le Stuff readers have asked about the location of the restaurant and if there actually was, or is, a real restaurant there. I'll try to clear up the mystery. The terrace scene was filmed on the western edge of Port Hercules in Monaco on the Quai Antoine 1er.
