La Croix des Gardes castle—the fantastic French setting of Alfred Hitchcock’s 1955 thriller To Catch a Thief starring Grace Kelly and Cary Grant—is a breathtaking Florentine-style château located atop a hill in Cannes overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. It was built in 1919, but English architect Alan Gore later added a neo-Palladian extension. With nearly 13,000 square feet of living space, the home boasts immense, opulent rooms with marble and herringbone wood floors, elegant trim, expansive arched windows, and sweeping verandas. The beauty of the property is even more apparent when you’re amid the magical grounds and gardens, set over 24 acres. There are manicured lawns of course, but also winter and Asian-style gardens, a glass-enclosed orangerie, crisp hedges, and a swimming pool—all set against a backdrop of the Mediterranean.

The castle that was so admired by Hollywood legend Grace Kelly during the filming of 'To Catch a Thief' is now hitting the market for the first time in 56 years.

The asking price for Castle of la Croix des Gardes is estimated to be about $53.5million, according to the French newspaper Le Figaro.

With more than 13,000 square feet of living space, the castle was built in 1919 in the famed Quartier des Anglais.

It's surrounded by several notable French Riviera mansions of its era and is 700 feet above the Mediterranean.
