This really happened!

You legally can't say "a true story" unless it really happened which it did. Though a more apt title might be "Tybalt and his good friend Pinocchio: A True Story" because it is more about the exploits of the not-so-brave bronco than about his puppet friend Pinocchio. Unfortunately though this was the greatest movie of the last 20 years and indeed the definitive edition of Pinocchio's tale I would be remiss not to subtract the 2 stars to make a point that this movie is false advertising.

It was also hard to let go of the pervasive myth of Pinocchio's nose growing but when you put it behind you you are in for the ride of your life.

Couldn't have found a better Pinocchio story (after all this is the only true one : ----- ) (long nose like pinocchios, but not really because that is a myth like tybalt said. spoilers!))

Came for the laughs, and it (mostly) delivered

Let's be real, you all know what you're signing up for when watching this, it's been inescapable for the past few weeks, and I love it. Pauly Shore was the best part of this movie, but Bella sounding so winded in every interaction and bouncing between clairvoyance and ignorance is also a great part. On a more technical note, despite being 94 minutes long, this movie feels like you're skipping several scenes with key information that just isn't mentioned, so you have to fill in the dots. Main example being the horse, the horse made no sense as a character- he was a weird overbearing but also underwhelming "supporter" of Pinocchio, and I loathed every scene he was in after the cops showed up (which was most of the movie).

If you're here for the memes, go ahead and rent it and then watch the edits on YouTube, it's not really worth a second watch. If you're here to enjoy an actual movie plot, I would suggest others :)

I rented this after taking 20 mg worth of 🍃and ordering Taco Bell. I was transported to another universe of a yassifed Pinocchio and I’m now trapped in this parallel universe. I don’t know which universe is better but I also don’t want to leave. Send help.

Its so bad that it's good

I ordered this for my 7yo to watch, and It's laughable to watch. Clearly a Russian animated movie, but watching them try to pair the voice acting with the animation had me in tears. It's so bad that it's good. I'm glad that Pauly Shore is working again

The movie started by telling us we won't be seeing anything as ridiculous as a person's nose growing. This was told to us by an inexplicably talking horse.

In a world where nobody bats an eye at an anthropomorphized, talking cat and fox, the wooden boy who does horse tricks is the only thing anyone considers entertainment. Join Pinocchio on his quest to find true love, and his one true daddy.

If you watch this movie alone, you're missing out on 98% of the fun. Get some friends in your watch party, do a conference call, and make jokes about this until you can't skidee skidee skidee anymore.

A relentless assault on the senses. This movie is frightening. From Pauly Shore's unforgettably effeminate Pinocchio, to Tom Kenny trying his best in an underwritten part, to Jon Heder's career-worst performance as Tibalt, or Tybalt, or Tiebolt, or Teabahlt, or however each character decides to pronounce his name, to the braindead Bella, to the cat with the gat, Pinocchio: A True Story is Neil Breen meets Cryptoland.

My brain feels rotted after watching this. This really feels like it was made by a content farm or an AI. After sitting through the credits and seeing how small the crew was, and how few animators there were (they probably all just animated Bella's hair), to how much animation was recycled in this, it's clear the majority of the film's budget went to the English voice cast. This is a textbook bad adaptation. I mean, even the script feels like it was translated in a text-to-speech program. Words are missing in lines of dialogue, and things just happen that we as the audience are expected to know, almost as if there are whole scenes missing. This cheaply made Russian knock-off probably would have been completely forgotten were it not for the glorious misadaptation into English.

If you feel like braving this trek through uncanny valley, just know it will be one of the most unintentionally hilarious trips through that dark crevice you'll ever take. All the serious attempts at comedy are painfully unfunny. The way the actors deliver their lines, however...endlessly quotable. *chef's kiss*

Pinocchio: A True Story without a doubt was a hot garbage fire of an animated film. An ungodly mistake bestowed upon our time. A literal waste of human effort, time, and money... and then lionsgate decided to take this smear upon all that is holy and breathe a kiss of life into it. It was almost like taking a piece of festering rancid rot and putting a flower on it. This flower is of course Pauly Shore. A "comedian" from the 90s who seems to exist in another timeline apart from our own, but we are blessed he crosses into ours as his consciousness transcends our human limitations. Pauly read his lines once how he saw fit into his microphone and nothing else was needed. No editing, no redos, and no critiques... just an artist and their work. An omnipotent being of true energy, power, and potential channeling our silly made up character of a wooden boy who, along with his talking horse companion, confronts the real world after his creation. Pauly not only voice acted for this character but experienced him. He astral projected and became Pinocchio. He was there at birth and his death, he experienced every conversation, every silent pause, every waking hour, and every mindless dream.

Pinocchio: A True Story is truly not worth the six dollars I paid to rent it but it was an experience, like dropping too much acid while day drunk in a natural history museum, you'd have to experience it for yourself to truly understand it.
