Home Jewelry Insider Septum Piercing: An Insider's Look At Finding Your Sweet Spot Posted by Valerie S on March 16, 2017 Now that we’ve found this super thin "sweet spot", the next step is proper placement. Every person has unique anatomy and because of this, placement for each person will be slightly different.Septum piercing placement is dependent on your own anatomy. Some noses have very little thin spots that are extremely tiny. Some noses have wide areas and a lot of room. Mix in some previously broken noses and deviated septums in there and you’ve got a variety of placements! From here, after securing where to pierce in front of your septum, your skilled and licensed body piercer (please go to a professional) will work with you to verify that the placement they’ve found is to your liking.Check all the angles, if possible. Look at the sides, making sure that the dots are approximately the same height and the same distance back from the inside of the tip of your nose.Make sure you're happy with the proposed placement before the piercing is performed. Once you're satisfied with the placement, your body piercer can proceed. After the placement has been decided upon, now it’s time for the main event, getting your septum pierced. This is where you should practice deep breathing or controlled breathing.Hopefully your piercer can coach you through this as they pierce (many do), but if they don’t, imagine yourself in your favorite place and breathe in and out slowly. Focus on that only. The actual piercing itself, the pressure is very quick and soon enough it's done! Septum pierced! Now that your septum is pierced, check out our gorgeous selection of body piercing jewelry for your fresh septum piercing. Also, check out our Vlog that explores healing tips on facial piercings during the 2020 Covid mask regulations.
Posted by4 years ago Archived Am thinking of getting my septum pierced and was researching it and came across and learned that you pierce the sweet spot. Originally I just thought you went straight through the cartridge. Then I found out that some people don't actually have a sweet spot and if that is the case then you do actually get it piecered though the cartridge which is meant to be extremely painful. My question is how do you know if you have a sweet spot and where in the nose do you find it? Where's your sweet spot on your nose? You know that piece of skin and cartilage that separates your nostrils? That's your septum. If you pinch your septum, you should feel a thin area of skin between some hard cartilage and the tip of your septum (often referred to as the sweet spot). That's where the septum piercing is placed.
Does everyone have a sweet spot on their septum?Pretty much, but keep in mind that all noses are different. Not everyone's septum has a columella, which is the thin strip of fleshy tissue that sits in front of the cartilage. Ideally, that bit of flesh is the “sweet spot” that piercers use for septum piercings.
Where exactly do you pierce your septum?Locate the columella in your nose.
With your gloved fingers, gently pinch your septum until you find the "sweet spot." At the bottom of your nose, you'll feel a fleshy part. Further up in your nose, you'll feel the hard cartilage. Between these two is the columella. This is where you want to pierce.
Is the sweet spot cartilage? This is what is commonly called the “Sweet Spot”. There is a misconception that the sweet spot is not cartilage, which is untrue. It is simply a softer, squishier cartilage at the tip of the nose. Imagine if you could wiggle your nose a la bewitched, this would be the cartilage that would allow you to do so.
