I assure you Minnesota is a beautiful state.Driving there up the Mississippi River is a very scenic drive among bluffs and .
People are friendly and helpful and they are definitely more moderate to liberal overall but if we are discussing MN-SP vs Atlanta,Atlanta edges it out with its historic towns and ,cities, civil war battlefields, mountains and nearby waterfalls.
Even if you do count both states it makes it even easier to choose Georgia if you have been to both.
The Georgia Coast and the Golden Isle of Georgia with Savannah nearby, and the South Georgia area near the Florida border with its different biodiversity is just so diverse.
Minnesota is a big state with more of the same.

Minnesota is definitely a beautiful state, but there's no denying that Georgia offers more geographical diversity. Georgia has beaches, mountains, lakes, swamps, and forests. Not to mention that Georgia has dozens of very popular tourist attractions.

Besides weather, this is another reason why more people choose to live in Georgia over Minnesota.

Poor Minneapolis. It's a great city but as this thread clearly demonstrates, the brutal winters really handicap and limit the appeal to many. Obviously, far more people are able and willing to endure 3-4 months of heat and humidity each year in Atlanta over 6-7 months of frigid snow and icy weather in Minneapolis. And who came blame them?

BTW -- It was 14 in Atlanta on Sunday morning. As I write this, it's 17 in Minneapolis. Just saying ...

...poor atlanta

Minneapolis is a good city but the winters are too harsh for me.. I would rather take the summer heat and humidity of Atlanta.. Besides Atlanta on a metro area level is bigger and has more to offer than Minneapolis IMHO..

That can vary a lot. Quite a few people I met who were born and never left MN are sheltered and unfriendly to outsiders.

Actually, I should have voted "Minnesota with Atlanta weather" - no way could I handle that cold weather....

The sheltered part is SO TRUE.lol
My friend I went to see was in the military with me in the 90's.When we first met,she said she never met any black people until she joined and moved away to where we were stationed. She had only seen black people on T.V. shows like "Good Times".
She felt comfortable to ask me one time:"What's it like growing up in a "ghetto"?

Im so proud of her.

Atlanta vs. Minneapolis

Minneapolis has culture?

Yes, Minneapolis & it's twin sister city of St. Paul have tons of culture & events, including winter-centered out side events. I live in metro Atlanta but even I know that to be a fact.
I could go either way in this survey for many varied reasons but the plus side of having a HUGE river that flows through the downtowns of both Minneapolis & St. Paul is a big time plus in my book.
Plus, the abundant number of lakes within the actual city limits of Minneapolis & St. Paul, often connected by parkways & trails, is another major asset of the Twin Cities for those of us that enjoy the outdoor life.
Honestly, a big drag on Atlanta for me is that in my 37 years of living here, it's grown from less than 2 million to around 5.5 million in population & I don't enjoy one iota of the down side of the resultant congestion.
Honestly, as I review what I've written here, I am reminded of how much I really am ready for a change of setting out of metro Atlanta.

According to the New York Times, 72% of those born in Minnesota still live there, the number for Georgia is 75%. For a point of comparison the number for California is 75%, for New York it is 61%. I think sometimes we overestimate how mobile Americans are. Most don't move, moving is more common among the professional classes or those who are ambitious but grew up in dysfunctional places.

Was your friend from the Twin Cities or out state MN? What she said is pretty much true of all of rural America outside of the south, it isn't unique to Minnesota. It is nearly impossible to not know any black people if you live in the Twin Cities today.
