Where can I see the movie Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs?

Stuff

A tragic waste of vocal talent like Chloe Grace Moretz, Sam Claflin, Gina Gershon and Patrick Warburton, Red Shoes is an ill-fitting, forgettable farrago.

Daughters new favorite movie

Good story about body image. My daughters begged me to rent this movie, and they watched it repeatably after the rental. Now they are asking me to buy the movie. It has nice animation and characters.

Worth a watch

I liked the movie, but I don't think it deserves 5 stars. It had lovely artwork, and a cute storyline, but it wasn't very well put together and had some inconsistencies. The script wasn't what I would call spectacular either.
Most of the comments are applauding it because of its body positive message, which is good. It definitely wasn't what the trailers and posters originally seemed to be advertising. But it wasn't exactly groundbreaking either, does no one remember Shrek? That said, I do like the premise and would love to see more done with similar premises.
The rest of this will contain spoilers.

Okay, so right off the bat... who are these princes? Obviously the writer(s) had a hard time finding some princes who weren't owned by Disney, because they have... King Arthur (the only legit prince), Merlin (who isn't a prince but that's forgivable), a guy who I suppose must be based off Jack and the beanstalk? Another guy who... cooks? Who is he based off? I have no idea. And 3 guys who are based off Pinocchio... Like, that's REALLY scraping the bottom of the fairytale barrel when you have to have THREE "princes" based off PINOCCHIO. I guess it's harder to come up with princes than princesses.
Next, logical inconsistencies... the most glaringly obvious is that although they state that the princes' are themselves when no one is looking, they play loose and fast with that rule. Apparently the mirror guy isn't a person, and king bunny is... sometimes. Half the time when Merlin is alone with him, Merlin is human, the other half he's a dwarf. When Merlin is alone with Prince Average turned tree monster, he's a human, so they're not humans anymore, I guess?
Anyway, all of that would be really forgivable if the story was just better. I'm not really a big movie buff or someone capable of breaking down a movie to fully explain why it was or was not satisfying, but I didn't feel it was satisfying at all. The emotional stakes weren't really high enough to begin with, and it didn't really feel like the relationship between Merlin and Snow White was involved enough at the end. His character, even by the end, was never very likeable. I mean, he was okay, but there wasn't enough character development. A lot more time in the movie was spent on fight scenes that weren't really that great. They were just okay. The moment that should have been really heartbreaking and set up for the finale was when Merlin saw her without her shoes, and it... wasn't that heartbreaking. Or shocking, the other prince's didn't get the big reveal, which I thought was a big point of it.
Maybe after seeing all the negative reviews about the body shaming, the writers were afraid to hit too hard with the rejection bit, but the heartbreak of the rejection is what makes the eventual acceptance and love be really emotional. I felt like there should have been a lot more of a fight... Red shoes angry that the princes were just using her to try and break their curses, and the princes angry that Snow White was lying about her appearance.
And the whole thing about Red Shoes saying "I thought we were under the same spell; a spell you never want broken" how on earth was she missing the fact that the princes definitely wanted their spells broken? It just came off kind of weird, I'm not 100% sure what she was trying to say there.

Before I begin writing the review, I want to say that it had some horrible marketing way back when. So bad that it was never put into American theaters. Basically, it came off as a FAT-SHAMING MOVIE... To the extreme contrast, it's the opposite, with a warmth in its message.
Red Shoes & The Seven Dwarves is very much on the same level as Disney/Pixar quality from South Korea. Everything about it is in English, and if someone didn't know they'd just assume it was a studio like that in the United States. Frankly, it's really excellent. If you enjoy movie like Shrek, Tangled, and such, it's similar.
The whole premise of the film tackles people's fixation with an outward appearance rather than who a person is on the inside. There are 7 heroes under a spell that made them into little green dwarves, rather than their original outwardly handsome/dashing selves. They want to return to their former status, and feel they're ugly because of their appearance. Contrasting this, Princess Snow White is physically obese, yet an exquisitely beautiful person inside. She puts on the magic shoes belonging to her step-mother (i.e. witch) and they make her a stereotypical princess. Everyone is enamored by her because they're caught up with her outward appearance.
The witch/queen wants her shoes back so she can bask in eternal youth and beauty. Consequently, to get the magical shoes for her own self, she has to kill Snow White (because they're magic shoes & that's how that works). Lots of cute humor, terrific dialog, excellent soundtrack, etc. The are a few slight things that you might catch that are a bit off in a specific scene if you have an sharp eye, but over all it's done so well that there is nothing truly negative to say about it.
It's worth watching, presuming you like Shrek, Frozen, Beauty & The Beast, The Little Mermaid, and the sunny Walt Disney Studio's retelling of fairytale stories like those.

If you saw the trailers, forget them! Amazing movie!

I put this movie off my watchlist for a long time because of the trailers.... let me tell you these trailers did the movie NO justice. The trailers gave off string fat shaming/ body shaming vibes but the movie was not like that in any way! It’s really easy to make a body positive movie by just slapping on the whole “this person is heroic and kind because he sees past her physical body, and sees her inner beauty”. This movie does a wonderful job of avoiding that. Our plus size Snow White in this film starts out and stays confident in her appearance throughout the whole movie, and never recognizes herself as “prettier” when she’s skinny. She knows she looks different, and even makes several remarks to missing her old self. Missing how strong she used to be and how herself she felt. Instead it’s Merlin who learns about himself. This movie normalizes being comfortable in your own skin, and really emphasizes on the don’t judge a book by its cover. Even the princess who cursed Merlin in the beginning breaks the typical standard. Usually it’s the old hag gets rejected and turns into a beautiful princess teaching them a lesson.... but in this story she never changes how she appears. 100% a body positive, well animated movie that anyone could watch! I myself have watched it two times now and am ready again!
