With this belief, people tie mango leaves at the entrance of their house and on the windows as well. Making beautiful rangoli and decorating the house with flowers and colors is also a famous tradition on Ugadi. After the decoration, prayers are offered to the Gods at homes and temples and people seek their blessings in the form of happiness and prosperity.

Apart from decoration of houses, preparation of special dishes on the day of Ugadi festival is also a very popular tradition. There is a dish named Ugadi Pachadi which consists of six different tastes which also represents six emotions experienced by human.

It is prepared from Tamarind (sour taste that represents unpleasantness), Jaggery (sweet taste that represents joy or happiness), unripe mango (tangy taste that represents surprise), Neem flowers (bitter taste that represents sadness), Black pepper (hot taste that represents anger) and Salt (salty taste that represents fear). Apart from this, many delicacies are prepared in different regions such as pulihora, bobbatlu, bevu bella, etc.

Reading horoscope is also a famous tradition of Ugadi where members of a family sit together and see their horoscopes for the upcoming year. Normlly, the horoscopes are read by any elder of the family or by a priest. Poetry events are also organized at many places where poets represent their proficiency in reciting Ashtavadhaanam, Shathavadhanam and Sahasravadhanam.
