Miya Chinen (知 (ち) 念 (ねん) 実也 (みや) Chinen Miya?) is a character in the SK8 the Infinity anime series who is an elite middle school student and candidate for Japan's national team. Show AppearanceMiya is a boy wearing a dark pink striped shirt and a purple tail underneath a light green, short sleeved hoodie with purple cat ears. Miya's uniform is a long-sleeved black under shirt with an unusually styled uniform. He also wears grey shorts along with a brown belt as well as white socks and a beret, plus a pair of brown dress shoes. In "S" Miya has a black skateboard with a purple "X" on the top part of the deck and a variety of cats on the bottom, with the saying, "Game". PersonalityMiya's smugness Miya was a carefree boy when he was younger, but has grown into someone who can seem very cocky at times. However, this is likely part of a persona he adopted following the events shown in the flashback after his beef with Langa. He was interested in skating from a young age and would often skate with his friends. During this time, Miya had fun skateboarding with others. He mastered the skills of skateboarding quickly, such as mastering the ollie in only two weeks.[6] His natural ability for skateboarding bred resentment in his friend group, and the better Miya became and the more awards he won, the more quickly his friend group diminished.[7] It was around this time that of his friends, Takashi, proclaimed that heroes can't team up with slimes, which was what led Miya to his world view that he is the hero and everyone else around him are the slimes. Miya arguing with Shadow Miya can be impertinent towards others, even maligning them upon first meeting, for example when he called Reki Kyan a slime. Miya appears to look empty often, as said by Adam and noted by Reki, who stated that Miya didn't look like he was having fun in a clip from one of Miya's recent interviews. Miya is shown to be somewhat competitive, being almost sure he was going to win during his race against Langa Hasegawa. It appears that it was Adam who coerced Miya into racing Langa, even though Miya didn’t really care for it. Yet, Miya was impressed by Langa’s skating. Although he was determined to win, Miya was horrified that Langa might fall from the weakened, rusty rails in the factory so much that he stopped skating to shout out a warning to Langa. Had he not stopped to warn Langa of the danger, it's very possible that Miya would have won the race. Miya touched by Reki's words It’s shown that Miya isn’t much of a fan of letting others see his weaknesses. For example, after his first race with Langa, Miya shared with Reki and Langa that "it's common for people to leave you the better you get." Reki promised that no matter how good Miya became, Reki would never leave him. This caused Miya to become visibly tearful, but instead of letting the tears fall he wiped them away and called Reki “weak”. Because of Miya's experience with his friend group abandoning him the more skilled he became at skateboarding, he is most likely afraid of letting someone get close to him again fearing they will leave. Despite this, he seems to take Reki's promise to not abandon him at face value and has maintained a friendship with him, Langa and Hiromi. Moreover, because Adam has stuck around despite pushing Miya to do things he may not be interested in such as racing Langa, it's possible that Adam's words are just as cutting when he says that Miya is "all empty again." AbilitiesMiya is a talented skater and one of the more well-known racers in "S". He got into skateboarding very early in life and used to do it for fun with his childhood friends, however he excelled at a much faster rate than them and lost their friendship in the process of becoming a well-known young skater.[7] He's known for his performances at junior skating competitions, is one of the most likely candidates for the Japan national skateboarding team, and even has a manager due to his fame.[7] Miya also has a strict diet he sticks to and is familiar with athlete training regimens.[8] Miya's skill
BackgroundAs a child Miya loved skating and had fun with it. As he grew up, he began improving and received many awards for his skateboarding achievements. However, this lead to his friends assuming that he saw them as "sidekicks" and that he looked down on them. Because of this misunderstanding, Miya lost his friends over time, which eventually brought about his negative outlook toward the idea of friendship as a whole. Miya hasn't seemed to have much fun in skateboarding after that incident and appears to only want to improve for the sake of it. He is shown to be upset that he lost to Langa after the two beef. After Reki consoled him and promised he would never leave no matter how skilled Miya became, their friendship sparked. Since then, Miya has accompanied Reki and Langa and has, over the course of the series, developed a brotherly bond with them. Appearances
