What is Land Rover Discovery dynamic package?

The third-generation Land Rover Discovery, also known as Discovery 5 because the first two generations were split into two series, was unveiled ahead of the 2016 Paris Motor Show for the 2017 model year. Sporting the same five-door wagon layout, the new Discovery is longer, wider and taller than its predecessor. But despite being larger, it has a sportier design due to the boxy cues of the Discovery 4 model being dropped in favor of a Range Rover Sport-inspired look. With sleeker headlamps, a slanted nose, and heavily raked C-pillar, the new Discovery is solid proof that Land Rover wants to move away from its traditional square designs. New looks and technology aside, the Discovery 5 also gained a pair of revised engines and an updated automatic transmission.

At the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show, Land Rover unveiled the first special-edition model based on the new Discovery. It goes by the name Dynamic Design Pack and comes with new exterior elements that give the SUV a sportier appearance, and cabin add-ons that enhance the vehicles premium feel.

Land Rover also used this launch to talk about how the new Discovery received the seal of approval from big-wave surf legend Laird Hamilton and members of the Silicon Beach Surfers club for its Intelligent Seat Fold technology, which can be operated from the water due to its waterproof Activity Key, and the roof-mounted Aqua Rack that can be used to carry two surfboards and other related gear. The Land Rover Discovery Sport is already one of the better-designed SUVs in the segment, but now the company has proven it can look even better with the introduction of the HSE Dynamic package.

Making its debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, which started today, the Discovery Sport Dynamic utilises the company’s Dynamic theme that’s seen on Range Rover models. It incorporates a unique design character inside and out.

The Dynamic package comes with special Narvik black exterior highlights, body-coloured mouldings, and 20-inch gloss black alloy wheels. Speaking about the new version, Gerry McGovern, Land Rover’s design director, said,

“The Discovery Sport Dynamic has been created to heighten the design appeal of the Discovery Sport. With the launch of the Discovery Sport HSE Dynamic Lux, we are offering our customers greater choice in the look and feel of their vehicle.”

Coinciding with the Dynamic launch, the company is also announcing some updates for the MY2016 version. It brings All-Terrain Progress Control technology for the first time, and a gesture control tailgate function.

An Active Driveline is also joining the lineup, allowing a switch between two- and four-wheel drive to save on fuel. There’s also a locking function for the rear differential for the ultimate off-road traction.

Lastly, Active Dynamics is being made available on the popular SUV. It brings MagneRide dampers with a wide range of adjustment. Land Rover says the suspension option reduces body roll and provides a more connected driving experience in the sportiest setting.

Overseas, the sporty Dynamic package will be available with the TD4 132kW powertrain. This engine option is not available in Australia – only 110kW and 140kW TDI. Local details are yet to be announced, however, the local arm has confirmed the package will arrive Down Under in May.
