Things to do in Blue Bell, PA

The quiet, upscale neighborhood of Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, located about 20 miles north of Philadelphia, has activities for athletes, history buffs and art enthusiasts. Blue Bell is part of the Whitpain Township, which offers seven parks with modern, multiuse fields. The area is also known for its countryside dotted with verdant hills, centuries-old buildings and heritage sites.

Town Parks

Four active parks and three open-space parks in Whitpain Township, near Blue Bell, provide plenty of room to play. The 49-acre Wentz Run Park on Anvil Lane has tennis courts, multipurpose sports fields, a playground for kids, and basketball and sand volleyball courts. Bring a picnic or buy food from the concession stand from April through October and enjoy your meal inside the pavilion or gazebo. A good venue for teens and tweens is the Stony Creek Sports Park, where inline skaters enjoy a full-size rink with dasher boards or a junior-size rink surface.

Valley Forge National Historical Park

The Valley Forge National Historical Park marks the spot where George Washington and his troops spent the winter of 1777–1778 during the American Revolutionary War. The 3,500-acre site, about 10 miles west of Blue Bell, includes preserved buildings, memorials and museums. Stroll the grounds and structures during mild weather, or take part in guided walking tours, living history demonstrations and trolley tours. The park is open year-round and is accessible by car and bus. Highlights include scheduled guest speakers, programs and special events, including reenactments, commemorations and educational activities.

State Park Activities

Those who love the great outdoors will find ample room to fish, bike, hike and walk the dog in two state parks near Blue Bell. At the Norristown Farm Park, less than 10 miles west of town, you can visit a working farm that's been in continuous use since colonial times. Eighty percent of Norristown's 690 acres is dedicated to raising crops. Other attractions include a dedicated skateboard park and a stocked trout stream. Less than 5 miles south of Blue Bell, Fort Washington is known for its 9-hole disc golf course in a wooded setting and fishing in Wissahickon Creek, which runs through the property. Both parks have cross-country skiing trails and sledding during winter.

Museums

Travel just 4 miles from Blue Bell to reach The Stoogeum -- a museum dedicated to Three Stooges memorabilia. The three-brother comedy team's exploits live on at this home that has nearly 100,000 pieces of memorabilia, including several interactive displays, film screenings, a research library and artifacts from 1918 forward. The Stoogeum also hosts an annual meeting of the Three Stooges Fan Club. Less than 6 miles from Blue Bell lies the grandeur of The Woodmere, a museum housed in a 19th-century Victorian mansion on six acres. The mission of The Woodmere is to showcase the art and artists of Philadelphia, with than 3,000 works of art on display.
