What are the chances that The Yakuza’s Guide to Babysitting anime will be renewed for season 2 as fans countdown to the series finale?
Anime centred around Yakuza have seen a notable boom in recent years thanks to The Way of the Househusband and now The Yakuza’s Guide to Babysitting.
Juxtaposing the intimidating reputation of the Yakuza against such mundane tasks as washing, cleaning or childminding has led to some hilarious and adorable moments in the latter series, which sadly comes to an end later on today with the season 1 finale.
Whilst The Yakuza’s Guide to Babysitting anime has not yet been renewed for season 2, fans can be hopeful that a second broadcast will be produced at some point in the future – here’s why.

The Yakuza’s Guide to Babysitting season 2: Renewal status
As previously noted, The Yakuza’s Guide to Babysitting anime adaptation has not yet been publicly renewed for season 2. However, there are plenty of indicators that the TV series will return for another round of childminding.
The first point of call is that The Yakuza’s Guide to Babysitting anime has plenty of source material left from the original manga series left to adapt; often a decisive factor in modern anime renewals.
By all accounts, episode 12 is expected to cover up until volume 4 chapter 39 of Tsukiya’s manga series. The good news is that, as of September 2022, eight complete Tankobon volumes have been published in Japan.
This means that there is easily enough source material for at least one more TV anime season, potentially two if the manga continues publishing new content into 2023.
Then we have the view that The Yakuza’s Guide to Babysitting should also prove popular enough to merit a second season. Ahead of the season 1 finale, the anime is scoring a solid 7.5/10 on IMDB, 77% on Anilist, 4/5 on Anime Planet and 7.77/10 on MyAnimeList; although this makes it only the 10th highest-rated show on MAL of the 2022 Summer broadcasting slate.
“You may be thinking to yourself when you watch this at the start. ‘How is this so f**** sweet.’ Along with. ‘How can this sucker punch my emotions like how Kirishima punches someone’s guts out.’ Pretty much the simple answer is to watch and enjoy. As that’s how you’ll see for yourself. It draws you in with that context. It’s lure. Putting up a badass frame, only to sugar us with such wholesome sweetness. You’ll come back for more and more.” – User review, via MAL.
Finally, we have the upcoming schedule for the production teams adapting the anime for TV, Studio Feel and Studio Gaina. These are two small, but rising studios, with The Yakuza’s Guide to Babysitting arguably being one of their most successful projects to date.
As of September 2022, both of these studios have a relatively open 2023 schedule, with Feel animating Spy Classroom and Gaina working on the Rescue Academy series; meaning they could have plenty of time come Q3 2023 to start on season 2.
The only potential caveat in The Yakuza’s Guide to Babysitting season 2’s renewal status is that the anime did not serve to significantly boost the original manga’s sales. As noted by AnimeGeek, “Manga sales are only an indicator of an anime series’ popularity in Japan, whereas global streaming revenue is the major factor.”
Hopefully, the lack of boosted manga sales can be balanced out against the availability of source material, open schedule for the production teams and generally positive reviews. Fingers crossed we hear news of The Yakuza’s Guide to Babysitting season 2 being greenlit soon.
If The Yakuza’s Guide to Babysitting is indeed renewed for season 2, fans could see the anime return in July 2023 on the Summer slate, or potentially October 2023 if either Feel or Gaina’s schedule alters significantly.

Where to read the original manga
As of September 2022, eight complete manga volumes of The Yakuza’s Guide to Babysitting have been published in Japan.
However, only five of those volumes have been released in English – this does mean that all of the manga content adapted in season 1 of the anime is available to read.
Physical copies can be purchased through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Book Depository and RightStuf.
Digital versions are available through Kaiten Books, Amazon Kindle, Book Walker, Google Play and Azuki.
