Aron Beauregard is the real deal when it comes to extreme horror. Heck, this was as disturbing as it gets. I will never get those images out of my head. The Slob is a vile villain, the vilest of any I have ever experienced since reading horror over the past 40 odd years. There were parts that had me literally gagging and a certain part that had me tear up with emotion. If you're a mother like me, you will immediately know when you read it which part I'm referring to. If you like your horror on the extreme side, then this book will punch you in the gutt and leave you winded for hours. Yes its extreme, but it's also well written and had me reading well into the late hours of the night to finish it, even though I had to be up early for work in the morning. Highly recommended for those who like this sub-genre of horror and those who have a strong stomach.

I had been recommended this book on TikTok and as an avid horror reader felt I owed it a check out. Within the first chapter or two I was already disappointed.
Not only does this book display severe ableism, but it’s plain lazy writing.
The book had numerous spelling mistakes, but the plot was the worst.
You can always tell when a horror is written by a man because they fall into r*pe tropes so easily. What’s horrifying about this book is the stupidity.

I read this book with a grin like the Cheshire cats. It was brutal, nauseating and exceptionally well written. It should be mandatory reading for every vacuum cleaner saleswoman.

Deeply disturbing and a truly horrific read....would I recommend it? No. Would I read it again? Also no. Should you read it? Yes! But only if you want to feel uncomfortable and digusted the whole time!!! A well written book that is worth a read.

Vera, Vera, Vera, if only you had turned back and headed home, instead of chasing an extra 40 dollars.......!!
This was disgustingly good, and was full of filth, blood gore and violence throughout. Definitely not for the weak of stomach, as this has some vile nastiness soaked into most of the pages. Eating, before reading this, is definitely NOT recommended!! This was sick good, and I’m looking forward to reading ‘The Son of Slob’. Just need to empty my stomach first!! 🤮🤣

2.0 out of 5 stars A woman, a vacuum, and a monster of a man...

(WARNING: This review contains MAJOR spoilers.)

It’s not unusual for me to crave something that’ll turn my stomach and make me hate myself, it’s happened before. The Slob stood out with its cover that, like the story itself, I didn’t know if I was there for it or if I wanted to purge it from memory. Vera is a door-to-door salesperson, and after some initial success of selling vacuums, she soon visits the wrong home. It had an interesting start of learning about Vera’s early life and how she eventually became a clean freak. There was obvious effort put into her character, at least until things got out of hand, and that drew me in. I even enjoyed reading about her relationship with her partner – Beauregard’s writing had a certain flow I liked, and the various illustrations preceding each chapter were a nice touch. Everything was well and truly serene at this point. Then it wasn’t.

Now, let’s think of the vile things that could be done to a woman being held captive – it’s not pretty, is it? This book included a lot of them, and this is where my criticisms lie, not necessarily with the acts themselves, but at how Vera’s emotional and physical states were portrayed in the aftermath. As it was, she went through horrific torture – again, this was to be expected and I was well aware of what I was getting myself into – but she became less of a character and more of an immortal meatbag for the villain to abuse. Her loss of identity was a shame since she was introduced with such personality, and all that was left was the violence, which… yeah, did live up to its reputation. One particular scene of foeticide will forever remain in my brain, placing itself among one of the most disturbing things I’ve read. In that regard it did what I wanted it to, but even with accomplishing the desired effect of me feeling sick and wondering why the hell I seek this stuff out, it initially set up something more that was squandered.

Oh, and I didn’t much care for the ending. That’s all I’ll say about that.

In conclusion: Being one of those books I find difficult to pin a rating on, The Slob was about a woman, a vacuum, and a monster of a man. Held captive after a failed sales pitch, Vera experiences extreme trauma with graphic descriptions, basically surviving the unsurvivable. It’s one of those pieces that you expect the worst going in, but the result is far more twisted. My biggest complaint is that time was put into the main character’s backstory, but whatever development there was was forgotten and replaced by the violence – had their been a balance maintained between the two, I think it would’ve worked.

I had created my own den of deformity now, a land of misery without smiles.

SOME STAINS DON'T COME OUT...

Raised in a household so filthy it was stomach-spilling, Vera involuntarily evolved into a neat freak. Upon discovering she and her disabled husband Daniel are expecting, she needs fast cash. Her obsession with cleanliness sprouts the concept that her skills can be put to use in a unique way. She takes a stab at the booming door-to-door vacuum sales business of 1988. All is going well until she arrives at the steps of a house that will change her forever. The steps of an evil that resurrects the ghastly memories she so desperately tried to wash away. Nothing will prepare you for the nastiness, disorder and sickening horror brought forth by... The Slob.

Well this was disturbing to say the least, not much of a plot going on apart from the fact you shouldn't knock on strangers doors; the antagonist here is a despicable, disgusting and evil person.

Don't read this if you're easily offended.

The shock factor here is high.

A must read for splatterpunk fans!

I bought the book due to it was recommended to me on both Tiktok and YT and after reading it I'm beyond annoyed the book has so many flaws and issues, 1st of all this book had an editor so why on earth does it contain so many spelling errors it reads like a draft as appose to an actual book, the casual undertones of misogyny and the ending is just blatantly homophobic and the casual amounts of ableism thrown in too it feels like what would happen if an edge lord wrote a horror book not to mention lines of cringy dialogue combined with the author's lack of knowledge when it comes to women anatomy made this book an utter waste of money.
