The Ghost and Molly McGee Darryl

Darryl McGee is one of the four tritagonists of The Ghost and Molly McGee. He is an 11-year-old Thai-American boy. He is the little brother of Molly McGee and the son of Pete and Sharon McGee.

Background

Darryl is a bit of a troublemaker, but he has the same good intentions as the rest of the McGee family (especially his older sister, Molly, who seems to be the only "good influence" willing to put up with him). He's constantly looking for ways to assist people, but he tries to be "unethical" about it since he feels regulations prevent youngsters from having fun... well, that, and he didn't realize until lately that instructors, like everyone else, have feelings. Furthermore, he is a bit of an oddball with a unique perspective on the world, but despite the fact that his peculiar thought process and rebellious temperament sometimes get him in trouble, he never really means any harm; he's just being himself.

Personality

Darryl is sort of a morally naive screwball, as he thinks doing extreme stunts with a leaf blower and a janitor cart is a great way to pass the time during recess when the swings are broken, and he had no idea until recently that teachers are people too (and thus they have feelings just like everyone else); on top of that, he thinks the best kind of lawyers are the kind that don't care about ethics. However, despite having a reputation as a troublemaker, and the unnerving fact that he takes pride in it, Darryl has his moments of showing that he actually cares about others, especially his sister Molly... he just has a disturbing way of showing it, as he's still learning how to be "good" and intends to just be himself to the fullest at all cost until he gets it right and hope for the best.

Darryl, like all young boys, has a thing for anything disgusting, such as the burping and farting noises from his favorite toy-- the appropriately named "Obnoxitron"-- and Scratch's ectoplasmic form. He does tend to have his head in the clouds about it, however, such as how his love for the centipedes he found in the basement lead him to believe that the tiny old-fashioned door down there leads to an alternate world where centipedes are the dominant species, when it was really just the location of the water heater. He at times can be a bit on the primal side, as the sight of him eating food off the floor causes Molly to volunteer him into helping Libby on her report on a scientist that studies gorillas... Darryl got so into character as a gorilla that he kept grooming Libby, much to her annoyance.

He is a massive fan of the Korean pop group Atomic Pink, often getting obsessively immersed in their songs. Seen in "The Greatest Concert Ever", he also won't resist a chance to perform with them when given one.

Appearance

Physical appearance

Darryl is a Thai-American boy, shorter than Molly, medium-length brown hair which goes slightly upwards, and large black pupils in soft almond eyes.

Attire

Darryl wears a dark green sweater over an orange hoodie, which is over a white shirt. He also wears blue and gray shorts, with white socks with and pale blue and dark blue slides.

Trivia

  • Darryl has a pet spider named Heidi Hairylegs, who he's especially fond of and allows running amok, yet tries to catch after letting her out knowing the rest of the family-- especially his sister Molly-- doesn't like having spiders around. He even tells Molly to leave Heidi Hairylegs alone when he correctly suspects his pet was about to have babies.
  • In spite of being only 11 years old, Darryl has a fondness for inappropriate horror movies (PG-13 to R) on account he makes it especially clear that blood makes scary movies even better.
  • Darryl's love of doing extreme stunts with hijacked carts makes him extremely popular among the other kids, yet it gave him 6 years of detention despite middle school only lasting 3 years. Obviously, his preparations for his stunts, among other moments of mischief, caused him to skip classes enough times for him to repeat a few grades regardless of his intellect levels.
  • In the Season One finale, Darryl was revealed to be a nail biter in times of stress.
