The two undefeated boxers have been hinting at a potential fight for a long time, but things could be moving closer to an actual bout.

Davis improved to 27-0 after his knockout win over Roland Romero in May before indicating he would fight again at the end of the year. Garcia (23-0) confirmed in August that he is focused on a matchup against Davis, although he wants it at the 140-pound weight class.

"I'm going to fight 'Tank' Davis if he wants it at 140," he said.

Meanwhile, promoter and former boxer Oscar De La Hoya gave a message to Davis to help set up a fight.

"I'm ready to offer you a multi, multi, multi, multi million-dollar offer to fight Ryan Garcia," De La Hoya told TMZ Sports.

Davis currently holds the WBA lightweight (135 lbs.) title, while Garcia is the No. 1 contender in the division.

By Sam Volz: Oscar De La Hoya says negotiations between Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and Ryan Garcia are still ongoing.

When asked what it meant by Tank and Ryan both saying “Done” today on Twitter, De La Hoya cleared up the confusion, saying that they weren’t talking about the fight between them. They were referring to their recent confrontation at a nightclub.

The negotiations are by no means done, unfortunately, but De La Hoya is optimistic that the Tank Davis Garcia fight will get done sooner or later.

It’ll be disappointing if the Davis-Garcia fight doesn’t get made this year, as there’s been so much talk about the match-up. It would be a big let down if it doesn’t wind up happening.

“We’re in talks. That’s all we can say,” said Oscar De La Hoya to Fight Hub TV when asked to give an update on the Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis vs. Ryan Garcia fight negotiations.

“Is this fight going to happen? I believe so. This is a  fight that both sides want. It’s the biggest fight in boxing today to have two young guys almost in their prime. I think Tank is in his prime. I think Ryan is just getting there or hasn’t even started.

“He’s obviously ahead of his craft. Yeah, I think this fight can be made. No, I believe it was something else. I believe they had met up a club or something to that respect,” said De La Hoya when asked to respond about Ryan and Tank both saying, ‘Done’ today on social media.

It wasn’t about the fight being done.I think both guys are going to go at it. It shows that they want to fight really bad, but do I think it’s going to happen? Absolutely.

“I just know that we’ve been talking for a long time, and I strongly feel it [Davis vs. Ryan] will happen. I personally want this fight to happen next for both guys. I feel the fight is very hot right now at its peak.

“I think both sides will be smart to pull the trigger now and make this fight happen sooner than later. It’s such a huge fight, such a mega-event, and so many details involved. There’s obviously the purse splits and everything.

“There are so many details with networks, but there’s nothing holding back anyone. Both parties know how massive this fight is, and we’re going to do whatever it takes to make it happen.

“It has the potential,” said De La Hoya when told that Tank vs. Ryan has the potential of breaking pay-per-view records. “Given both guys’ popularity. Tank Davis is one of the best fighters out there. He’s proven it over and over again.

“He has a huge following with celebrities. So the engagement there will be massive. Ryan Garcia as well. He brings in a whole new demographic. So this fight here, it would be silly not to make the fight happen.

“Like I said, I’m very optimistic this fight can be made sooner or later. It shows you the character of both guys. Both guys are not afraid. Both guys want to do it for the fans. Both guys want to prove who is the best, and I strongly feel Ryan Garcia has a huge advantage, being the faster fighter, being the stronger fighter,” said De La Hoya.
