Should I remove factory fitted screen protector?

Hi @Ashleigh2

It's recommended to remove the factory fitted tpu screen protector before applying another type of protector.

Under Settings and then Display look for a toggle On saying Touch Sensitivity.

This increases touch sensitivity after applying a screen protector.

There are quite a few glass screen protectors on the market.

I wouldn't recommend the options that only have adhesive around the edges as they can pop off and leave a space between the protector and the phone's display sometimes causing dead spots.

I personally use the Whitestone Dome Glass Screen Protector as it adheres to the whole screen with a type of silicone adhesive and works very well with the finger print scanner.

The factory fitted screen protector is fine and pretty good quality, and protects the phone from scratches etc.

It could help to protect the display from a drop to stop scratches,  however even with a case and screen protector applied the phone can still be damaged depending on how high its dropped from and the angle it hits the surface and what type of surface it hits.

However I prefer the feel of glass when replacing my screen protector.

Once the factory fitted screen protector needs replacing then it's a simple affair to peel it off, and the phone can then be used without one, however I wouldn't recommend to leave the display unprotected.

There are other plastic tpu screen protectors available to buy and are pretty simple and easy to fit onto the screen or perhaps consider the Whitestone Dome Glass Screen Protector or similar. They are not the cheapest the option to choose but in my opinion are one of the best.

  1. I've always noticed Samsung puts a thin plastic screen protector on the front. Not that one that pulls off easily, but one that is installed fairly good and can barely see if it is there or not. I normally do not keep anything on the screen since I like to use the screen without anything on it. I mean you are paying for this expensive Gorilla Glass, so may as well take advantage of it.
Do you keep this factory screen protector on?

Some people remove it, thinking it is supposed to be removed.

  2. Yes, for awhile anyway until it gets too scratched up. They aren't the most durable in the world, but I like the feel of them over some others.

  3. No I like the screen without any screen protector, it's just a preference thing.

That's the whole reason why they use Gorilla Glass right? I do have a bad habit. I sometimes carry my keys and my phone in the same pocket. I wonder if that factory installed plastic is really helping out or not....since I also too would like to use my phone without the case.

I mean there will be scratches or micro scratches eventually but that doesn't bother me. Also, I don't keep my phones long enough and if you are trading the phone scratches aren't an issue even if it happens. I tend to keep my phone separately from keys and wallets but honestly I don't think too much about it. Just enjoy the phone.

My right front pocket is a phone only pocket. Has been since the late 90's when I started carrying phones.

Factory installed protector can only help in that situation of carrying your keys in the same pocket as your phone. If anything rubs against it, it'll at least protect from any kind of scratches.

I would be carefree but I always would like to use the tradeback feature Samsung has on buying back old phones. Or not even a phone that's a year old.

For the trade back they only care about if the screen is cracked or not. They don't care about scratches, that's part of normal use.

  9. I was planning on keeping it on, that was until I dropped it and the screen protector got a gouge in it and I couldn't stand looking at it, lol. Luckily the screen was untouched.

    03-14-2020 04:18 PM

  10. I take it off, finger print scanner works better without it for me.

    03-14-2020 05:14 PM

  11. I normally can't stand screen protectors and never put them on my phones but this one on the Ultra looks and feels good. I know it'll be coming off sooner or later but I'll be keeping mine on until it looks bad or starts peeling

    03-14-2020 06:19 PM

  12. I took mine off. This time it did last longer than usual on my phone, I usually remove it right after unboxing but this time didn't until about 5 days later

  13. Took mine off the Note 10 Plus only to regret it. None of the replacement felt as good to the touch in my experience.

  14. I never use a screen protector but was going to leave this one on because it felt pretty good...took it off after a few days hoping the fps would work better for me, got a slight improvement, and the screen does feel better to me

    03-15-2020 09:56 AM

  15. Took mine off during setup. It seemed to make the FPS all fussy when I was creating fingerprints for security.

Over the years, I've developed enough good habits that I never use screen protectors. Once I put a small scratch on my Samsung Instinct (you guys remember that one??) It left a big enough impression for me to be more careful. That phone also had a plastic screen with resistive display. Crazy how advanced Samsung has become when comparing their old phones.

  16. I took mine off pretty much ridht away.

    03-15-2020 12:50 PM

  17. Mine is still on. Doesn’t seem to affect the finger scanner. It works 99% of the time.

    03-15-2020 03:22 PM

  18. I only keep it on till my glass screen protector comes. I much prefer the glass on glass approach. And I still prefer to log into my phone!

Same - right front pocket is the home for all my phones - and nothing else in the pocket. I haven't taken off the pre-installed screen protector yet - which is surprising because I never have used a screen protector. It will come off soon though. It's not bothering me or anything.

I don't mind screen protectors as long as I can't feel them. Not necessarily the lack of slip a plastic one has, but more the edges of them. That's why I con't care for glass ones that much. They always create a step between either the frame and actual screen or between the actual screen and protector. I always remove glass ones for that reason.

    03-16-2020 06:19 PM

  21. I tried to see how long I can go before I get annoyed with it on and it's coming off tonight. Feeling the edge of the screen protector is getting annoying and it doesn't feel as smooth and nice as the actual screen. I bought a whitedome to give that a try but not sure if I even want to now.

    03-16-2020 07:32 PM

  22. Yeah.. I'm struggling now. I know it's there and I'm having the overwhelming urge to pull it off. It's still in great condition with only one light scratch so that's one less possible scratch to the screen but I know it's coming off soon now then I'll regret doing so 😂

    03-17-2020 05:45 AM

  23. I keep mine on for scratch protection. I kept it on the entire time I owned the S10+.

    03-17-2020 09:02 AM

  24. 3 weeks in my factory installed screen protector has a few very minor hair line scratches. Nothing noticeable while screen is on.

Should I remove original screen protector?

Yes, you can go ahead and do that as tempered glass would prove to be more effective in its purpose than the pre-applied screen protector. P.s : I would suggest you to buy a 5-D tempered glass. Yes you should.

Should I remove pre installed screen protector before applying tempered glass?

So if you want to put tempered glass on you should remove the preinstalled one. Otherwise you can get difficulties with the touch screen.

Can you take the built in screen protector off?

Insert a credit card or toothpick beneath the screen protector at the corners. Make sure to avoid anything sharp or abrasive, which could scratch your screen or the edges of your phone. Gently pry the protector up, lifting as you go.

Should you remove the plastic on phone screen?

If you use the device without removing the protective film after purchasing the device, various problems may occur. It is recommended that you remove all of the protective film.
