Secondary air injection system air flow/pressure sensor circuit bank 1

Secondary air injection system air flow/pressure sensor circuit bank 1

P2432 code definition

The P2432 trouble code is a generic powertrain code related to the auxiliary emissions control system. This particular code appears when the engine control module (ECM) is reading low air pressure to bank 1 of the secondary air injection system.

The P2432 code is also related to:

  • P2430: Sec Air Injection System Airflow/Press Sensor Circuit Bank 1
  • P2431: Sec Air Injection System Airflow/Press Sensor Circuit Range/Perf Bank 1
  • P2433: Sec Air Injection System Airflow/Press Sensor Circuit High Bank 1
  • P2434: Sec Air Injection System Airflow/Press Sensor Circuit Intermittent/Erratic Bank 1
  • P2435: Sec Air Injection System Airflow/Press Sensor Circuit Bank 2
  • P2436: Sec Air Injection System Airflow/Press Sensor Circuit Range/Perf Bank 2
  • P2437: Sec Air Injection System Airflow/Press Sensor Circuit Low Bank 2
  • P2438: Sec Air Injection System Airflow/Press Sensor Circuit High Bank 2
  • P2439: Sec Air Injection System Airflow/Press Sensor Circuit Intermittent/Erratic Bank 2
  • P2440: Sec Air Injection Switching Valve Stuck Open Bank 1
  • P2441: Sec Air Injection Switching Valve Stuck Closed Bank 1
  • P2442: Sec Air Injection Switching Valve Stuck Open Bank 2
  • P2443: Sec Air Injection Switching Valve Stuck Closed Bank 2

What the P2432 code means

When a P2432 code appears, the engine control module (ECM) has located an issue with the secondary air injection system’s air flow or pressure sensor circuit. Part of the emissions control system, the secondary air injection system pumps air into the exhaust stream when an engine is cold to help speed up the process of warming the catalytic converter.

Bank 1 contains the engines number one cylinder, and the P2432 code is stating that the air pressure to the secondary air injection system is low.

The P2442 trouble code occurs mostly in cold weather. The injection pump for the secondary air injection system uses a one-way check valve with the air inlet hose for protection. If a one-way check valve goes bad, condensation can enter the pump and possibly freeze. Ice in the pump can cause damage and overload the circuit. If the temperature of the engine exhaust rises to high, it can also cause wires and connectors to overheat and burn.

What causes the P2432 code?

A P2432 code can be caused by a number of possible issues, including:

  • Damaged or defective air injection pump
  • Damaged or defective air injection valve
  • Damaged or defective one-way check valve
  • Damaged or defective vacuum switching valve
  • Bad or damaged sensor wiring

What are the symptoms of the P2432 code?

Symptoms of a P2432 code may include:

  • Warning or Check Engine Light will illuminate
  • A louder sounding engine due to noises from the secondary air injection system
  • Hesitation when the vehicle is accelerating
  • Engine stalling at startup
  • Engine stalling at idle

How does a mechanic diagnose the P2432 code?

A mechanic may use the following methods to diagnose a P2442 code:

  • Use an OBD-II scanner to check for any trouble codes, such as P2432, store in the ECM

  • Check all valves for possible damage and repair or replace as needed

  • Check all wiring for possible damage and repair or replace as needed

  • Check the air injection pump for moisture, clean, and test

  • Check pressure sensor for damage or corrosion from moisture and repair or replace as needed

  • Check air injection system, including hoses and fuses for damage and repair or replace as needed

  • Clear all codes and test drive the vehicle to see if they reappear

Common mistakes when diagnosing the P2432 code

One of the most common mistakes in diagnosing the P2432 DTC is not checking and diagnosing a potentially faulty one-way check valve. A misdiagnosis could result in multiple replacements of the secondary air injection system and continuing pump failures.

How serious is the P2432 code?

Because your vehicle could stall or hesitate during driving causing dangerous driving conditions, YourMechanic considers the P2432 trouble code a potentially serious issue. Take your vehicle into your local dealer service center or repair shop immediately for diagnosis or repair.

What repairs can fix the P2432 code?

  • Repairing or replacing the damaged air injection pump
  • Repairing or replacing damaged valves, such as the air injection valve, switching, or one-way check valve
  • Repairing or replacing damaged wiring
  • Repairing or replacing damaged pressure sensors
  • Repairing or replacing any damaged hoses or fuses

Damaged or faulty one-way check valves are often the cause of this trouble code. YourMechanic recommends checking and testing these valves before making any further repairs, as a damaged one-way check valve can potentially damage other parts of the air injection system.

How do you fix a secondary air injection system malfunction?

What repairs can fix the P0410 code?.
Replacing the air injection pump and power relay..
Replacing O2 sensors that respond too slow as they age..
Replacing the air injection pump intake filter clogged with debris..

Can I drive with a P2431 code?

The P2431 code has a wide range of symptoms. In some cases, the driver may notice no adverse symptoms. On the other hand the vehicle may stall and run poorly. For vehicles that run poorly, they should not be driven until the vehicle can be repaired.

What causes a secondary air injection system malfunction?

A faulty pump is generally the most frequent cause of the system failing. Ingress of moisture can cause damage which results in seizure of the pump. Faulty ground and voltage supply can also cause the pump to fail.
