Ryzen 7 5800x vs Ryzen 5 5600x Reddit

Looking to buy a new CPU, wondering if anyone has any input on the these two, Ryzen 5 5600x or the Ryzen 7 5800x. I will be using this for gaming, primarily Rainbow 6 siege and Apex legends. I currently have a Ryzen 5 3600 and an AMD Radeon RX 5700. After getting one of these CPU I will be upgrading my GPU, and my motherboard. Also open to other CPU suggestions. Current prices for these for me are Ryzen 5 5600x : $400CAD, Ryzen 7 5800x : $495CAD. Is it worth going for the Ryzen 7 for that much of an increase?

"Worth it" is subjective. The 5800X is currently at best 10% faster than the 5600X at 1080p, and at worse isn't any better. So about 5% on average. Going forward, it's likely that more AAA games will make use of a high number of cores, but I still imagine that 10% will be the norm, not the theoretical 30% difference.

Of course, that's with a 3090 at 1080p. If you're looking at a somewhat slower GPU or a higher resolution, the difference is likely to be even smaller. (Also, possibly if you're looking at an AMD GPU, the difference may be smaller due to less driver overhead. But that's speculation.)

For some people the extra 5% or 10% are worth it. For some the frame rate compared to the platform price is what determines what's worth it (and here perhaps the 11400F or 11600K may be worth it). That's up to you to decide.

Hello.

I know there has been a discussion regarding this topic but I have managed to find the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X for 380 USD locally and Ryzen 7 5800X for 466 USD so I won't be needing any shipping. For people living in the US, it won't be so easy to understand since where I live I have to use a third-party company that does ship the item to my country thus there will be +18% TAX + Shipping handling (8 USD per KG)

Should I get 5600x or 5800x as of now? Priority will be gaming and somewhat web browsing only. No video editing or the rendering of anything. Your advice is highly appreciated.

Currently I own a Ryzen 7 3600x with a Rtx 3060. Should I upgrade my CPU or is it okay? Fps wise.

this

People say the 5600X is good enough for games, but really your computer is doing alot more than just running games, you have all of Windows and it’s processes in the background, etc.

Especially when consoles are running 8-core machines, it’s safe to say that if you can afford to, the better CPU to get for gaming is the lowest latency, 1CCD 5800X.

As far as AM4 is concerned

One generation CPU upgrade when you have midrange GPU? No point. Particularly now when Alder Lake just launched.

By AL I mean the once the stock of MBs and CPUs is good enough, the prices will drop. After that if AMD and retailers want to continue selling B450-X570 and particularly 5600X/5800X, those prices need to drop as well.

There could be some good BF deals for Zen 3. I think there should, since last BF was pretty shit and now Zen 3 is well challenged by Intel. It's still a good budget choise but given how Intel didn't increase their relative prices, Zen 3 prices should drop.

Depends on the games you play. I would go for the 8 core. I have the 5600x and come from an 3600. The difference is huge but the more core you CPU has the more stable your frametime gets. The never titels coming out are also very core dependend.

moving from a 3600x.. 3600... 3600xt even, to a 5600x is a noticably improvement worthwhile.

moving to a 5800x, first do you need 8 core? Is the price actually decent? For me those 2 extra cores are about $100-150 dollars.. certainly not worth it for most.

Agreed, gaming wise? No, but if you have the ££ why stop at 8. 5900 and 5950 are also good

But getting back to upgrades. If you do work and game on the same machine, that 5800 is worth it

level 2

worthwhile.

This depends from user to user.

5600X vs a 5800X - for games it is really hard to recommend the 5800X unless you do not want to upgrade in 5 years and don't mind the heat, noise and more expensive CPU.

Did you mean 3700x? If so, I made the jump from a 3700x to a 5600x and saw maybe ~10-15% better fps but im on 1080p. If you're on 1440p or 4k, you won't see much if any fps gain as those resolutions are more gpu bound. There is a slightly noticeable slow down in everyday tasks on my pc since I dropped 2c2t, but it wasn't anything an OC couldn't fix. Currently running my 5600x at 4.8ghz @ 1.2875v and I couldn't be more pleased with the performance.

We don't know what kind of games you play and on what kind of settings on what kind of monitor, so all we can say is you could see a 0~20% average fps boost, really hard to tell with such little information.

If you are limited by your CPU, generally I heard it's worth the upgrade, but that mostly depends on how much it will actually cost you.

There is a recent article (in Russian, use Google translate) about upgrading CPU and GPU on old systems. With RTX 3060 going from zen 2 to zen 3 absolutely not worth it: from 83 average FPS to just 87.

A 3600X will be holding a 3060 back, but only a little and only at 1080p.

If I were you, I would wait for AMD's next CPUs, coming in 2-3 months as far as we know.

It's the Ryzen5000 series, but with extra cache 3D stacked, and it should have significantly higher gaming performance.

level 1

Nope, not worth it with 3060. You will not see an improvement gaming wise, well maybe you will gain a couple fps, but thats about it. 3060 is not really powerful enough to benefit from faster cpu, than you already have.

Okay so here is the thing. Most of you got this so wrong when saying you only get 1-2 fps difference etc. Esports gamers are supposed to get 5800x and single player gamers get the 5600x. For Valorant, cs:go, lol, dota etc... You got to have a very nice cpu. If I would have the money, 5800x all the way. Much better fps, low 1% and average fps. Not to say, if you remember 7600k vs 7700k. 4 cores 4 threads vs 4 cores 8 threads. Many people sold their 7600k way faster than the owners of 7700k. You got to think about the future at this point when even consoles have 8 cores and you guys saying 5600x is plenty for now. Competitive players even buy 5900x or 5950x. Because of those extra fps. Even if you only have 240hz monitors or 360hz and you got like 500-600 fps. That is a huge difference. You are going to have an advantage between 360hz 360fps and 360hz 500-600fps. (just an example, the actual difference in fps is not that big between 5600x and 5800x but actually quite big in esports titles with the right amount and speed of ram, cooling, etc)

you esports types drive the rest of us bonkers.

Is Ryzen 7 5800X worth it over Ryzen 5 5600X for gaming?

There's no doubt that the extra cores in the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X put it above the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X in terms of performance. It's going to do better on multi-core workloads like video rendering.

Is Ryzen 7 5800X overkill?

Best answer: No. The Ryzen 7 5800X is complete overkill for gaming and not even the best value among AMD's lineup of modern CPUs.

Is the Ryzen 7 5800X worth it?

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X CPU The Ryzen 7 5800X is what we think is the best gaming CPU you can buy from the house of AMD. It offers impressive performance for gaming as well as content creation, making it a fantastic mainstream CPU overall.

Is Ryzen 7 always better than Ryzen 5?

Use cases: Ryzen 5 vs Ryzen 7 Both CPUs offer good value for the money, but the Ryzen 7 is ultimately the better choice for most users. It has a higher base clock speed, more cores and threads, and faster memory support, all of which combine to make it a more powerful CPU.
