Why Can’t I Publish my Roblox Game? (Upload Failed)

Sometimes, you may not be able to publish your Roblox game because your upload fails. This could be because your place is too big or it has too much going on in terms of items or scripts.

You can verify this by following the steps:

  • Save your Place via File > Save first.
  • Then while keeping Roblox Studio open, make a new game from File > New.
  • Add a brick to this new place and choose File > Publish to Roblox As.
  • Choose the Place which has issues and upload your new blank Place on it.
  • If this ends up working, then it means that you need to reduce the number of items in your Place or make it smaller.
  • You can also check your version history and revert it to the version where the problem was not coming up. This should help you fix the issue.

Publishing an existing game

If you want to publish your project to a game already published on the Roblox website, you can instead click 'Update existing game' in the bottom left corner of the Publish Place window. This will open a list of all of your published games, allowing you to select one to publish to.

Where can I find my published game?

All of your published games can be found in the 'Create' section of the Roblox website under 'Games'. Click here to go straight there.

How can I make it so other people can play my published game?

Published games are 'Private' by default, meaning only the person who created them can play them. If you want to share your game with other people, you will need to make it 'Public' first. The quickest way to do this is:

Players in the game find all seven hidden items in the place (all of which are popular gear items). The first item in the place is a lantern. It can be found in the house the player spawns at. Signs are placed in the map serving as a guide for some features in Roblox Studio.

In the middle is an area where there is an unfinished 2-story house, some parts, billboards, a room with no walls nor doors, a roof, a bridge, 3 doors, a torch, a bed, a chair, a table, and an unfinished 1- story house. The purpose of the area is for the user to use the parts in Roblox Studio as well.  The rest of the map can be explored to find the other gears.

Restarting Servers

When you make updates to a place that you want users to immediately be aware of, it's recommended to restart all servers, as your changes might not affect servers currently running your experience.

You should restart servers only when necessary, such as upon publishing a significant update, as doing so will instantly kick all players from the experience and may discourage them from rejoining afterwards.

To restart all servers:

  1. Navigate to the Creator Dashboard.

  2. Click the in the corner of the experience's thumbnail and select Shut Down All Servers.

Publish the starting place to make it available

  3. Confirm shutdown by clicking the OK button.

Metadata Best Practices

Your experience's name and description create an important first impression and contribute to how easily users find your experience through Roblox's dynamic discovery systems.

Experience Name

All experiences should adhere to the following best practices for naming:

  • Keep the name consistent – Renaming an experience too often reduces the chances that users can find it using a previous name.

  • Avoid spamming – Frequent repetition of words or phrases may result in demotion of your experience.

Obby Madness

  • Use decorations cautiously – Decorating the name with one or two well-placed emojis isn't harmful, but misplaced or excessive decorations can confuse users who quickly want to identify the experience.

🌍 Evolution Simulator 🌍

  • Avoid unrelated text – Adding text which is unrelated to the core name, such as a current version release or the latest updates, can negatively affect the discovery and recognition of your experience.

Experience Description

A well-written description promotes the genre and unique qualities of your experience while also providing the best context for both users and Roblox's dynamic discovery systems.

  • Summarize your experience – Summarize what your experience is about in the first sentence, as this is your opportunity to present the most accurate impression of its genre and content.

Compete with racers around the world in some of the craziest courses you've ever seen!

Fight off hordes of zombies with bats, guns, swords, and a bunch of weapons hidden throughout challenging mazes.

  • Provide keywords – Include all keywords that may be relevant to your experience. This makes it easier for users and Roblox to understand the themes and genres presented in your experience.

How to publish the starting place to make it available in Roblox?

To publish a place as the starting place of an entirely new experience: In the Studio menu bar, select File → Publish to Roblox.

What does publish the starting place mean on Roblox?

Publishing is when you save a copy of your place to the Roblox servers. This means that it saves your place, and then uploads it to the Roblox servers, where it is stored so others can enjoy your place more easily.

Why is my game not publishing on Roblox?

Whenever you get a message in Studio stating that your upload has failed, this is usually the result of your place being too big or having too many items/scripts in it. To test this, please try the following: Save your place to your computer first by opening it in Roblox Studio, and using the File menu > Save option.
