Keep reading to find out what went down at the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex on the campus of South Dakota State. Men’s RecapZouhair Talbi and Shimales Abebe did the heavy lifting for Oklahoma City. Talbi and Abebe combined for 52 of the Stars’ title-winning 68 points, as they went 1-2 in both the mile and 3000, plus a 1-3 finish in the 5000. Talbi, one of the fastest men in collegiate history in both the 3000 and 5000, completed the mile-3000-5000 sweep on Saturday. Once Talbi and Abebe stepped off the track for the final time after the 5000, OCU had a seven-point lead over Indiana Tech. If the Stars finished seventh or better in the ensuing distance medley relay, they’d clinch at least a share of the title, but if they moved up one more spot, it would be theirs outright. Well, the team of Milan Todorovic, Fares Marrouf, Tate Smithhart and JaQuavios Harris earned a fifth-place finish and cemented OCU’s first indoor national title in program history. The Warriors took runner-up honors behind the Stars with 59 points, followed by Indiana Wesleyan in third with 34 and Saint Mary (Kan.) with 31 to round out the podium teams. Women’s RecapIndiana Tech turned in a historic performance. The Warriors, who won their second team title in a row and third in program history, scored the most points by a team champion (127) since Oklahoma Baptist totaled 133 back in 2014. Indiana Tech didn’t lead the whole way, as it trailed Concordia (Neb.) by five points through eight events. Then the Warriors found their stride and never looked back. Seventeen points poured in for Indiana Tech in the triple jump (1-5-6), followed by 11 in the 60-meter hurdles (3-6-7) and 13 more in the 60 meters. The Warriors weren’t done there, as they won both the distance medley relay and 4×400 relay for 20 more points, among other efforts. All told, that’s just 61 of Indiana Tech’s 127 points, which was more than any other team’s total with a full allotment of events: national runner-up William Carey (Miss.) amassed 55 points; third-place Concordia (Neb.) put up 45; fourth-place Hastings (Neb.) rounded out the podium with 38. 2021-2022 NAIA Indoor Qualifying (FINAL)ICON KEY: DISPLAYING FILTER BY TEAM(S) FILTER BY ATHLETE(S) QUICK LINKS:
