Hello I want to extend my old Jamo S 606 HCS 3 setup with a subwoofer. Right now there is a discount here on Klipsch R-12SW and Klipsch R-100SW, so that are the the two subs I'm look at.. But not knowing much about speakers and especially subwoofer, I was hoping I could get some quick advice from you guys. Should I get the the older and bigger R-12SW,
which is also a little cheaper then the R-100SW? Is it still bigger is better? or is a newer 10" subwoofer better then the old 12"

Is it still bigger is better? or is a newer 10" subwoofer better then the old 12" Yes the older R-12SW is more capable due to larger cabinet, larger driver and more powerfull amp. You get more output and deeper extension. However if you could spend more i would highly recommend that. Perhaps using finance if
the shop allows it. Either of these two would give you quality and performance (+warranty) much higher than Klipsches.
Great thank you for the reply.. The SVS do sound interesting. So a 10" SVS is much better then the Klipsch 12" sub? And will definitely be worth the extra cost? Normally the SVS PB-1000 is about double the price of the discounted 12" Klipsch here.. But the Demo model you found, do look like a good option to save a little money.. Also the PB-1000 is the one to
pick, if used in a home theater right? Yes the older R-12SW is more capable due to larger cabinet, larger driver and more powerfull amp. You get more output and deeper extension. Yes to put it lightly the SVS will wipe the the floor with that cheaper range Klipsch. I have owned the better Klipsch R-112SW which has better made heavier cab/sloth port, better driver, beefier amp and it still wasn`t as good as PB1000 so i`m sure! SVS is probably one of the most known subwoofer manufacturer in the world.
They have 5year amp warranty and superb service/support, great aftersale value when you decide to sell/upgrade etc. PB1000 outperforms most 12" woofers with ease, you get really strong output down to 20hz. There is now new PB1000 Pro being sold so make sure the "old" PB1000 is priced lot lower, you can always chat with the dealer about being old model and you wanting superb deal if there is some further air in the price. Also make sure you get full warranty for it. Can you answer
few questions..
- atm. I dont have huge space.. Made a quick paint picture om the room and were i was hoping the sub will work.. Distance between front speaker and couch is about 3m
Then go forward! There is reason why (PB1000) has been so popular choice over the years in many countries. Noting better for the price. It will give you real taste of real cinema bass and noticeable step up from the market woofers like Klipsch, Polk etc. Your Denon will do some eq for the sub hopefully flattening some peaks so it will sound more controlled and less boomy. You can
try it at the front corner first and then run Audussey (3mic positions) and listen how it sounds. If slightly boomy then move it toward the speakers out from the corner and re-run Audussey. Afterwards always make sure you have speaker size all set to Small and check speaker crossovers (bump up if set below 80hz)! Audussey Dynamic EQ can be used, but keep the Dynamic Volume Off (apart from night time). Run Audussey with the subwoofer gain/volume knob set to 12clock, phase to 0, low pass filter
knob to LFE and check from Denon menu "Subwoofer level" after Audussey run. Report what you got as there is usually some tweaking to do. The reason why you should run 3mic position is if you have to do it again it saves time. I`m getting bit ahead of things, haha. If you buy it come back so we can check settings and do set those i mentioned. There is lot of reviews for PB1000 if you google, but check the AVF one here so you get better idea:
Okay, PB-1000 is now on the way.. Hoping it will arrive before the weekend.. |
