Jimi Hendrix - voodoo Child lyrics

The Jimi Hendrix Experience Lyrics

"Voodoo Child (Slight Return)"

Well, I stand up next to a mountain
And I chop it down with the edge of my hand
Well, I stand up next to a mountain
And I chop it down with the edge of my hand
Well, I pick up all the pieces and make an island
Might even raise a little sand
Yeah

'Cause I'm a voodoo child
Lord knows I'm a voodoo child, baby

I want to say one more last thing

I didn't mean to take up all your sweet time
I'll give it right back to you one of these days, hahaha
I said I didn't mean to take up all your sweet time
I'll give it right back one of these days
Oh yeah
If I don't meet you no more in this world, then
I'll meet you in the next one
And don't be late
Don't be late

'Cause I'm a voodoo child, voodoo child
Lord knows I'm a voodoo child, baby

I'm a voodoo child, baby
I don't take no for an answer
Question no
Lord knows I'm a voodoo child, baby

This song turned out to be the last one Jimi Hendrix performed live. It was at a concert in Germany on the 16th of September 1970, 12 days before his death.

When this track was released as a single in the UK in 1970, a week after Hendrix died, it became his only number-one hit in that country.

The Music Radar website readers voted that this song had the best guitar riff in rock'n'roll history. The website explained, "From its wah-wah into the rhythm parts and the astonishing solo, this is still regarded by many as the high watermark of electric-guitar expression."

"Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" was ranked number 101 on Rolling Stones' list of 500 Greatest Songs Of All Time.

About Voodoo Child (Slight Return)

"Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" is a song recorded by the Jimi Hendrix Experience in 1968 that appears as the final track on the Electric Ladyland album released that year. It contains improvised guitar and a vocal from Jimi Hendrix, backed by Noel Redding on bass and Mitch Mitchell on drums. The song is one of Hendrix's best known; it was a feature of his concert performances throughout his career, and several live renditions were recorded and released on later albums. After his death in 1970, Track Records released the song as a single in the United Kingdom using the title "Voodoo Chile" (see confusion over title). It became Hendrix's only number one single on the UK Singles Chart, reaching the top position during the week of November 15, 1970. Several artists have performed or recorded versions of the song. Rolling Stone magazine included it at number 102 on their list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time". more »
