When stories of Yellowstone first made their way back east in the 19th century, people were skeptical. The early visitors' descriptions of impossibly deep canyons, enormous herds of roaming bison and boiling water erupting from the ground were beyond the realm of belief. The rumors of this geological wonderland so captivated the public's imagination that the United States government sent an expedition to verify the claims. It was all true. In 1872, Yellowstone became the world's first national park.

Sprawling across 3,468 square miles, Yellowstone presents endless opportunities for adventure and exploration. In Geyser Country, experience the most active geothermal area in the world. While Old Faithful never fails to impress, do not overlook the other spectacular features like hot springs, fumaroles and the gorgeous Artists' Paint Pots on your trip to Yellowstone. Also not to be missed is canoe- and kayak-friendly Lake Country, home to giant, pristine Yellowstone Lake, head to the aptly named Inspiration Point for breathtaking views of the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone and Yellowstone River. See and hear the thundering Yellowstone Falls. Look for roaming wildlife in the Lamar and Hayden Valleys. You never know what lies ahead in this magnificent wild space.

Yellowstone vacation packages allow travelers to explore all of this and more as they embark on bus tours and excursions through both the upper loop and lower loop of the park. As if this national treasure were not impressive enough on its own, many vacation tours include time in the West's other spectacular parks, as well. Select from tours on Amtrak to Yellowstone, our vacations of Yellowstone and Grand Tetons, trip packages that travel from Mount Rushmore to Yellowstone and vacation tours that go to parks such as Zion, Bryce Canyon, Glacier, Canyonlands and Arches in addition to highlighting the granddaddy of them all, Yellowstone.
