Is Rose the mom or step mom in Outer Banks?

Netflix’s Outer Banks brings more excitement, drama, and adventure for the teens in season 2, including several returning and new members of the show’s cast and characters. Created by Josh and Jonas Pate, Outer Banks follows a group of teens on the North Carolina island that face class warfare while going on a Goonies-like adventure for lost gold. The series was a bonafide hit among young audiences, winning a few awards at the People’s Choice Awards and MTV Movie & TV Awards.

Outer Banks’ first season saw the Pogues searching for the sunken treasure of the Royal Merchant, which John B’s father had been searching for before he went missing. The second season begins with the Pogues mourning John B and Sarah Cameron until they realize they survived and made their way to the Bahamas. Things heat up back in the Outer Banks, keeping the rivalry between the Kooks and Pogues at large while the groups search for an even more important treasure.

The first season of Outer Banks featured a group of a mostly unknown cast, with most of the teen characters only having had small roles in movies and TV shows. With the widespread success of the premiere season, the actors have moved into the forefront of television with several upcoming high-profile series and movies. Here’s a breakdown of all of the returning and new cast and characters for Outer Banks season 2.

Chase Stokes As John B Routledge

The main protagonist of Outer Banks, John B Routledge, is portrayed by actor Chase Stokes. In season 2, John B begins with trying to get the gold in the Bahamas with Sarah Cameron while they are presumed dead. After returning to the Outer Banks in some close calls, he reunites with the Pogues as they try to clear his name, deal with intimidation from the Limbreys, and find the Cross of Santo Domingo. Before Outer Banks, Stokes played Adam on Tell Me Your Secrets and had a small guest role as Reed on Stranger Things.

Madelyn Cline As Sarah Cameron

The so-called Kook Princess Sarah Cameron is played by Madelyn Cline, who previously portrayed Chloe in Boy Erased and Jessica on The Originals, and is set to star in Knives Out 2. Sarah is a high-profile Kook whose father Ward and brother Rafe were revealed to have murdered multiple people in the first season on the path to finding the Royal Merchant’s gold. Sarah is dating Big John's son, John B, and is now an official Pogue, though still has to avoid her family from kidnapping her, making her keep their secret, and trying to keep her away from the Pogues.

Rudy Pankow As JJ Maybank

JJ Maybank is one of John B’s best friends and a truly loyal Pogue. He’s known as a delinquent because he continually gets into trouble, but most of these are wrongful accusations because his father is an abusive drunk who often lands himself in prison. JJ does all he can to clear John B and Sarah’s names before searching for the Cross of Santo Domingo. JJ is portrayed by Rudy Pankow, who played Brocklehurst in Acting for a Cause and Freddy/Robert on Solve.

Madison Bailey As Kiara Carrera

John B’s best friend, Kiara “Kie” Carrera, is played by Madison Bailey, best known for starring as Kelley on episode three of American Horror Stories and Wendy Hernandez on Black Lightning. Kie is technically a Kook as she comes from a rich family, but has always been a Pogue and loyal friend to the boys. She is much closer with Sarah in Outer Banks’ second season, while dealing with an off-and-on romance with Pope. Kiara’s parents hate that she hangs out with the Pogues, and even threatens to keep her away from them for good.

Jonathan Daviss As Pope Heyward

Pope Heyward is a cautious, genius Pogue whose father runs a seafood business where they deliver food to Kooks by boat. Pope has a crush on Kiara that isn’t clearly defined in Outer Banks season 2, which is second to his plot after going on a journey to find the Cross of Santo Domingo, which rightfully belongs to him as a descendant of Denmark Tanny. Pope is portrayed by Jonathan Daviss, who played Mathis in 2018’s Age of Summer.

Charles Eston As Ward Cameron

Ward Cameron, revealed to be the major villain in Outer Banks’ first season, is played by Charles Eston, who played Deacon Claybourne on Nashville and Josh Porter on The Office. Ward killed John B’s father and several others who got in his way in season 1, even attempting to kill John B himself. He covers up for Rafe when he kills Sheriff Peterkin, eventually going down a criminal spiral in season 2 while trying to unsuccessfully get Sarah back.

Drew Starkey as Rafe Cameron

Rafe Cameron becomes severely unwound in Outer Banks season 2, revealing more of his psychopathic murderous tendencies and lack of remorse for killing Sheriff Peterkin or blaming John B. Rafe eventually gets wrapped up in the fight for the gold and the Cross of Santo Domingo, going after the Pogues along the way. Rafe is played by Drew Starkey, who played Garrett in Love, Simon and Hawkins in Scream: The TV Series.
