Launched in 2014, YouTube's offline feature allows Android and iOS users to save YouTube videos to their device for later consumption. These videos can be downloaded via mobile data or Wi-Fi network. The feature is ad-supported, however, so you will have to sit through an advertisement before getting to your video.

Not every video is available
It is worth noting that not every video is available for offline viewing. Much of India's popular YouTube content can be downloaded, but you might come across some videos that are not available to download.

Offline availability
Any video downloaded can only be played offline for up to 48 hours. After this, you will have to find a working Internet connection and re-sync the video with YouTube app for any changes and availability status.

How to download a YouTube video for offline viewing
To make a YouTube video available offline, first you need to open the YouTube app on your Android or iOS smartphone or tablet.

Visit the video file you want to download. Look for the Add to Offline icon below the video (alternatively you can click the context menu button and select Add to Offline option). Do note that if the video isn't available for offline viewing, it will have a crossed Add to Offline button. You cannot download such a video to your device.

Upon clicking the Add to Offline button, YouTube app will ask you to select the resolution - Low, Medium, HD - of the file. Low quality will download quickly, take lesser space on your device, but will be of relatively worse quality. Once you select the quality, the video will begin to save on your device.

How to watch YouTube offline video
Note that saved video will be available only inside the YouTube app. To locate the file, go to the home page of YouTube. You can do so by either dragging the video down using gesture, or by simply tapping the back button on Android.

Once you're on the home page, click the Account tab (the one the right-most corner that looks like a human body).

You will find Saved videos on this page. Clicking this will show you all the videos you have saved for offline viewing. If you want to delete a video, click on the context menu next to the video, and select Remove from saved videos.

Click or tap the Download button. It's the icon that has an arrow pointing down. It's below the video playback window. This immediately starts downloading your video. You will see a circle around the Download icon below your video. When the circle turns completely blue, the video download is complete.

If you want to change the quality of your video downloads, click or tap your profile icon in the upper-right corner. Then click or tap Settings. Then tap Background & downloads on mobile devices. Then click or tap Download quality. Select your preferred quality for video downloads.[3]

Navigate to your Library to watch a video when you're offline. Once you're disconnected from the internet, viewing the video is easy. Just tap the Library tab at the bottom-right corner of YouTube. Click Paste Link. It's the icon with the green plus (+) sign in the upper-left corner of the 4K Video Downloader app. This pastes the video link and automatically starts downloading the video. Allow a few minutes for the video to finish downloading. By default, you can find your video downloads in the "4K Video Downloader" folder in your "Videos" folder.
- If you want to change the quality or format of your video downloads, click Smart Mode at the top of the 4K Video Downloader. Use the drop-down menu next to format to select your preferred video (or audio) format. Then use the drop-down menu next to "Quality" to select your preferred video download quality. You can also change the download destination of your video files in this menu. Click Ok when you are finished.
- If you want to view YouTube videos you downloaded on your mobile device, you can connect your mobile device to your computer using a charging cable. Then copy and paste the video files to a folder you can remember on your mobile device.

Tap Download next to "360" to download the video in standard quality. You can find the video download in the Downloads folder by default, on all devices.
- If you see a red speaker with an "x" next to any of the download options, this means that audio is not available for download.
