The problem with this approach is that it isn't expected, any message is likely gunna come off as weird (although I of course don't understand your situation completely). You generally wanna ask out a girl after you develop a bit of comfort with them, but the level of comfort doesn't need to large at all. For example, if you saw her in class once and you guys made eye contact across the room, there is generally this moment with people that you find attractive where the women recognises the look as one of interest, and she will tell you how she feels about your interest by how she reacts in that moment. Once something like this happens you have to realise that the women is almost expecting you to come talk to her. Women are different than men in the sense that they are often attracted to how someone makes them feel rather than how they look only (as is often the case for men). A women is likely to be sufficiently comfortable with you when you ask her out if you made her feel attractive in the past with a look like this. The problem is that you can't wait too long, or people forget how you made them feel and comfort is lost.

So to answer your question, you can't not be creepy here, but that should really matter tbh. There isn't a zero percent chance that she will say yes, so why not try? At worst you will feel bad for a time, but all things pass. It is ok to feel uncomfortable sometimes, it is a necessary part of life, practise not avoiding it. Message her and be honest, " hey, not sure if you remember me (if it has been a while), but I was wondering if you were seeing anyone? I think you're beautiful and I'd like to get to know you" etc etc. Chances are she will not want to hang out, but that is fine, your job as a man is simple: A) show interest in some way to build comfort, interact if possible to help the process.
